found it and I agree. For a burly guy' date=' he lacks a lot of power. If he gets one middle in, he can drive it to left, but he lacks the opposite field power that most great hitters have. It is strange, he seems to give up on the ball if it is on the outer half.[/quote']

He takes a very weak wrist slap to the opposite field. I am having a hard time remembering him beating an OF to RF.

Morgan thinks Francona did a good job managing out of that jam? Sure' date=' if you completely ignore the fact he managed them into it.[/quote']

Tell me this Red, would YOU have put Piniero in the game in that situation? I sure as hell wouldn't have. Donnelly, Lopez, anybody but that filthy rotten choker.

TGov' date=' if you want to know why so many of us roll our eyes in complete disgust at Francona's managing acumen, or lack of it, using Piniero in a close 3-1 on the road speaks volumes. He has Donnelly who had prospered in this role before but he instead chooses to use a chronic loser and underachiever who was close to the worst pitcher in the league last year. Francona costs us at least a half-dozen games a year.[/quote']

thus far the francona count is at zero, so you can relax. To this point, Francona hasnt given out the roles. Using Pineiro today was in and of itself stupid, but my guess is, Tito is giving Pineiro first crack to win a setup job. By the end of the yr, your bridge will be Donnelly/Timlin/Paps, but Tito doesnt see it that way yet. What tito needs to work on, is when to pull the plug on these experiments. He pulled Pineiro way too late.

well, when I was being taught the finer art of hitting, you were always taught to wait on the outside pitch and then drive it. Make contact with the ball as the ball is about to cross the plate (which is not the case for a ball down the middle or middle in). It seems like Youk doesnt stay back on the outside pitch and instead gets his lower half moving forward and is left with just the wrists to slap the ball the other way. He waits back well with his top half, but the bottom half goes out and all he is left with is a slap hitter to right.

Now that is a f***ing dominant outing as I have ever seen one! Paps strikes out 4 of the 5 batters he faced to notch his 2nd save of the season

Clink your glasses boys the Sox grab a victory before their homestand : ) Im going to the home opener and Dice-K's debut on the following day

Next up

Seatte Mariners

Josh Beckett vs Miguel Batista

Daisuke Matsuzaka vs Horacio Ramirez

Tim Wakefield vs Jeff Weaver

Its inexcusable if the Sox cant take at least 2 out of 3 here

Riverside, maybe I'll run into you at one of the games. I'll be at the first four of the homestand.

Dont forget the Romero implosion yesterday after the Sox just made it a 1 run game

Donnelly should be the first in line with Timlin on the rack for now. I just dont see why you should tinker with it. Donnelly had an alright yr last yr and has experience setting up. Pineiro has been on the rag for the past 3 yrs and has no experience with high pressure innings. I just dont get how you put Pineiro in for that situation.

Anyone think Donnelly is getting Dave Riske disease? Tito for some reason just passes over him because he looks funny and then the sox deal him away, only he becomes a key cog for the recipient?

It is simple why you put Pineiro in if you are Francona. It is because he is a f***in' idiot.

the true test for Francona will be if he goes back to Pineiro in a setup role this week. You have 20 games in a row coming up. Pineiro figures to see a bunch of innings, role TBD.

Or even Okajima. Of all people, why did he have to put in Pineiro?

I'm seriously considering bringing a poster to the game that reads (yes, in all caps):

TITO, LEARN HOW TO USE A BULLPEN!

Should I do it?

Why not Brendan Donnelly over Piniero? He is better...

this is the question that will be asked for weeks. Point is, the extra strain on Paps was unnecessary. Using Donnelly could have at leats improved the sox chances of not completely sucking in the 8th.

it would be apt. Tito does need to learn how to use a pen. But at this stage, he is an old dog, new trick. You get the analogy.

Heads Up:

After calculations, our projected starters for the Yankees series are:

Schilling

Beckett

Matsuzaka

Of course, things are subject to change.

There are 3 or 4 days in the next 10 that are supposed to be pretty rainy.

haha, i didnt mean it like that, but i just read it and i should have known he would only talk about himself and put like one sentence about papelbon in there

You sure about that Coco?

Seattle

Beckett

Matsuzaka

Wakefield

Anaheim (I will never call them Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim)

Tavarez

Schilling

Beckett

Matsuzaka

Toronto

Wakefield

Tavarez

Schilling (Out of all the trouble we've had with Toronto last 2 seasons, Wakefield & Schilling have just had 1 start each vs Toronto since 2005. Makes you think)

New York

Beckett

Matsuzaka

Wakefield

EDIT: Not related but I just read some cool quips from Gordon Edes

The Sox are planning to wear vintage uniforms from 1967 this afternoon, part of the tribute to the Impossible Dreamers. Longtime Larry Lucchino pal George Mitrovich deserves an assist; he coaxed Ebbets Field Flannels in Seattle to make the uniforms on very short notice. They were delivered Saturday . . . NESN announced the addition of former A's manager (and Sox coach) Ken Macha as a studio analyst, and Naoko Funayama, a sports reporter at WMUR in Manchester, N.H., as a feature reporter focusing on stories surrounding Matsuzaka.

Its going to be thrilling to see the Sox play in "1967" uniforms, interesting also that we will be seeing Ken Macha as a studio analyst for the pre-game and post game commentary
