Adam:

You are pretty bright, I don't know why these guys can't see your native intelligence or appreciate your obviously prestigious college education. Exactly what year did you graduate from Yale?

whats a truse? Is that one of those words whose meaning was lost in translation years ago, but natives to the west side of f***sville have been rumored to know the meaning?

First of all, Moose had a better ERA than any starter on your team. The Yankee offense is better, the defense is better, the bullpen is better. Nice try.

I agree with the offense and bullpen part, but not this part. The sox were #1 all time last yr in fielding %. They did lose 2 solid defenders in AGon and Loretta, but it does show the rest of the team can field. Our team defense isnt as bad as it looked yesterday, but we are middle of the pack anyway. When Phelps or Giambi are at 1b, we are below the middle of the pack.

Our defense, yesterday notwithstanding, is better than Boston's. Look position by position. We get the nod at first with Mientkiewicz, Cano is better than Pedroia, Jeter is better than Lugo. I'll say at this point, Lowell is better than Arod. I think Posada is better than Varitek due to the throwing arm, as shown in the five game series when the Yankees ran wild on the paths. Abreu and Drew are a wash, Crisp takes it over Damon, and Matsui runs rings around Manny.

A few of these are tossups, but there is no doubt the Yankees get the edge at 1B, SS, and catcher. The Sox get CF and 3B, with RF and 2B kind of a tossup, with a slight edge at 2B for Cano.

When Phelps/Giambi is at first, agreed, 1B becomes a wash.

Riverside, is GOM starting to get on your nerves as he is mine? I wish he would just cut the crap and take up another cause because he is beginning to act more and more like a troll, and, frankly, he is pissing me off no end.

The Red Sox will win the division if our big three can step it up. If Daisuke has a Johan type impact, Beckett has 15 or 16 wins with an ERA around 4, and Schilling can stay consistent and produce around the same level as he did last season, the rotation will be the best in the league. The Sox also have a solid bullpen for the first time in years. With Donnelly and Okajima in the late innings and Papelbon closing it out, it'll become much less of a risk when we have a one or two run lead going into the late innings. Also, the lineup is looking great this season as we don't have to depend on certain players like Coco or Varitek to produce. As long as Lugo and Youk get on base, and Papi, Manny, and Drew can drive in the runs, our lineup will once again be a machine.

Second place goes to the Toronto Blue Jays, the same team that will win the A.L wild card. Halladay, Burnett, and Chacin will be a powerful top of the rotation trio and B.J Ryan is just about as lights out as they come. The lineup will come together and be a run producing machine as they have Troy Glaus, Alex Rios, Lyle Overbay, and Vernon Wells returning along with the addition of slugger Frank Thomas who should continue to hit countless homers in the DH spot.

The Yankees on the other hand are looking as vulnerable as ever. The lineup is great but also isn't getting any younger. A-Rod will have an MVP year and Jeter will continue to do what he does, but after that, nothing is certain. Even though I'm a Red Sox fan, I'm far from biased as I picked the Yankees to win the division last season. Even if the Yankees acquire Roger Clemens midway through the season (which I'm expecting), he won't make as big of an impact as NY fans will hope for. He'll be turning 45 in August and he's going to find much tougher lineups in the AL than he saw in past seasons. His ERA will linger around 4 and his injury risk will be huge. Their rotation as it stands is terrible. Mussina will have a solid year and Igawa might have some success but Pettite, Pavano, and their #5 starter just won't cut it.

It's going to be a three way race to the finish for the AL East but the power is shifting and the Yankees will find themselves in 3rd place looking up to the Blue Jays, and World Champion Red Sox.

Bosox, I loved your post and it should have given all of us a much needed shot in the arm after yesterday's disappearing act. However, you have to be a little concerned about the bottom half of our lineup just a tad. Tek looks lost at the plate, Lowell hasn't hit a lick since he first stepped on the field in Florida and Crisp looked absolutely lost most of ST and yesterday. In addition, I am very concerned about Wakefield's piss poor pitching last month when facing minor leaguers. I just get the feeling that while the Yankees will dump anyone not doing the job without a moment's thought or hesitation, Theo and Tito will hold onto their vets until hell freezes over. I'm sure you know the guys I'm talking about---one being the next supposed great slugger for us who looks like a fandango dancer with a bat in his hand.

Cano is a statue and Jeter is the most overrated defensive player in the game.

That being said, I don't think the discrepancy is as big as most would believe. It think it's pretty close, actually.
