On one hand you have a 1-5 of Lugo/Youks/Papi/Manny/Drew... arguably one of the best in the game...

Then you have 6-9... Lowell(decent)....Varitek(terrible hitter), Crisp(equally inept), and Pedroia(hasn't shown any signs of being able to handle Major League pitching).

The Pitching staff is great...but as good as it is...our 6-9 is absolutely Horrific.

I would like to hear some suggestions on how the Sox can fix this gaping abyss which resides 6-9 in the Sox lineup.

My first order of business would be to get Helton. Trade Lowell and a prospect and eat a good portion of the contract. Helton put on 25 pounds and his back is in great shape. He is the type of hitter who could really use Fenway to his advantage. Boggs with MORE power and leather. I like Lowell' presence on this team and he can still contribute...but like Lowell himself said.."I would trade me for Todd Helton in a HEARTBEAT."

If Crisp can bounce back and Pedrioa shows a learning curve, some hope may be there and I wouldn't classify Varitek as a terrible hitter. He may not be great but he was serviceable until last year and how much were his injuries affecting him at the plate?

Hell, I'm just happy they may actually have a bat behind Manny, but I'm crossing my fingers on that.

..

-Trade Lowell, Tavarez & Hansen for Helton

-Let WMP start in CF

-Trade Coco for a 2b prospect

-Sign Todd Walker

1-Lugo

2-Youk

3-Ortiz

4-Manny

5-Helton

6-Drew

7-Pena

8-Tek

9-Pedroia/Todd Walker

.. That was easy .. ..

not bad, but Walker isn't as good as Pedroia in the field and his bat isn't what it was a couple years ago...

If Lowell continues to have troubles with the bat I imagine they will get someone to fill the offensive void by the AS break/ TDL either a 1B and move Youk to 3rd or get a 3B. Netting Crede in a 3 team swap wouldn't be too bad at all, not saying there is the remotest chance but when I think of avaliable 3B and 1B him and Texeria come to mind as far as big names go. I would bet maybe someone a little more low key, perhaps Zimmerman from DC. Just food for thought...

it is SPRING TRAINING!!! Dont take anything from a veteran hitter's performance in ST. You can get something out of any pitcher (command, velocity, improvement, etc) and on young hitters (cause they are truly putting it all on the line) but veteran hitters are only trying to get their legs under them for the 162 game grind.

Yeah, I think ousting Pedroia is a bit much. He will be the second baseman eventually, the team does not need to get that much older. Wily Mo could eventually start at first, not center. Youk could go to third and Lowell could be traded.
Posted
Crede would be a great addition to the Sox lineup and field, but I highly doubt the ChiSox would ever go for a trade involving Crede especially to a team like the Red Sox... unless the White Sox get the benefit of the deal...

Well he's going to be a FA next year, And i didnt think Williams liked to negotiate with Boras, his agent, so there would be no reason not to deal him......So it should be pretty possible to net him.

O sorry, didnt realize he was on his way to the Free Agent Market...

.. Don't see Crede in a sox uni anytime soon because of his OBP ..

.. Can't say the same about Dunn ..

1-Lugo

2-Youk

3-Ortiz

4-Manny

5-Dunn

6-Drew

7-Good times

Is it just me or does anyone else ahve a problem with this evaluation?

Our top 5 is good but not arguably one of the best in the game. The Yankees, Mets, Guardians, White Sox, Phillies, and maybe even the Rockies and Cards have just as good, if not betetr top 5s than us. Also, I feel you're shortchanging our bottom 4 as Crisp, Tek, Lowell, and Pedroia could be very solid, though they have many ?s.

I'd feel much better with Drew in the 2nd hole and Helton in the 5th hole. I don't like Youk in the 2 slot. He k's too much and is too slow. He will kill lots of rallies with DPs.

Agreed, though I feel a lot of people overrate Youks Ks. They are really only result of him going deep into counts all the time, and that can be improved, as it's just TOO much patience.

Todd Helton is not the way to go. Especially with 6 more years of him making $16,600,000/year on that contract.

As the season goes on I'm sure you'll see other players become available. One that comes to mind might be Paul Konerko if the White Sox are out of it (or Jim Thome, whom we can't take on). Richie Sexson is another name that will come up in trade rumors. I'm not high on either unless we can move Lowell's salary in the deal as well as Tavarez or another contract taken away. We'll see though.

Posted
the white sox will not be out of it.

It's possible...Dye/Thome/Konerko etc. have nowhere to go but down.

We'll have to see how their pitching holds up, too.

as far as the bottom of the lineup is concerned, i think we will be fine. its a whole new year - tek will likely improve form last year [because he sucked last year, and its hard to go down from there] lowell is decent, so hes good in the bottom, crisp should do better because his finger isnt bothering him anymore and theres less pressure because hes not leading off, and pedrioa, well, cant make judgments of him til after april

The bottom of the lineup is still a problem. In the second half last year it was a black hole that swallowed up rallies and I don't see much improvement.

See now, I just dont understand why you're getting on Animal, all he's doing is posting his opinion... you on the other hand are just being an ******* like usual... why don't you stick to the thread topic next time...

back to the actual topic...

I'm not worried about the bottom of the order, besides for Lowell and Pedroia everyone last year had a problem with injury, so i bet Tek and Coco will return to there old ways... and I think Lowell will be about the same as last year... as for Pedroia I think he will do just fine, I think he will adjust to the majors nicely...

This is a blatant rip off of GIARSF.
