Prediction: If the optimism I see here comes true; specifically, the Sox winning the ALE and the Yankees on the first tee by October 1. Then Jacko will revert to TheRiv and be banned before the ALDS is over.

Just having some fun, Jacko. I will say this, though. You were composed last offseason, but when the season started, you had a hard time keeping your emotions in check.

ALE: Yanks

ALC: Twins

ALW: A's

ALW: redsox

I want to say the sox are winning the division because we clearly have a better starting rotation, it's just that the bullpen scares the s*** out of me. That being said we had no bullpen in 03 either, but Theo traded for Williamson and Kim(who was pretty good in 03) so by the end of the season I think we will be fine there. I also think our offense is going to put up amazing numbers. I say we win 97 games, and because the Yankee lineup has a superstar at every position they will relentlessly beat on K.C. and Tampa and win 100 games. It's going to be another great season.

Not really. I had never really been composed. Also, I am one yr further removed from seeing the sox win the series. If the sox win the series again I may need prophylactic banning. j/k.

precisely why the yankees will win the east. You dont win the regular season based on head to head. It is how you beat the piss out of the s***** teams that matters the most, and the yankees with their lineup, what should be durable rotation and solid pen, they will have a lot of leads to hold and will likely hold a lot of them.

Question... how is the Yankee's rotation durable?

Question... how is the Yankee's rotation durable?

Wang 218IP last season

Mussina 197IP last season

Pettitte 200IP 2 straight yrs

Igawa averaged 200IP over the last 6 seasons.

They have track records of going deep in innings pitched. That is what I meant.

i think that between the Yanks and Sox, whoever has the least amount of injuries in the lineup will win the division.

Also depends on a healthy rotation too, but i think that the sox could outlast the yanks in losing some pitching. sox got lester and possibly clement [in late august], but im not too familiar with the Yanks pitching depth though.

 How can you rely on Lester? He's coming off of f***ing lymphoma. If Clement pitches another inning for the Red Sox then I'm going to kill someone...

And by the way, yes, you're right, the healthier team normally wins more games.

I think it comes down to the Sox' bullpen vs. the Yanks' starting rotation. Our bullpen sucks hardcore overall, and the Yankees' rotation is pretty weak at the back end. They may be inning eaters, but that's all for nought if they get beat up on during those innings...

i think that lester being an effective pitcher - nothing great will come out of him, but he will be above average IMO.

and why do you think it will come down to BOS BP vs. NYY SP ?

BP only pitches about half of what SP pitches

[sorry if that grammatically did not make sense]

Why? See: 2006. It only takes 1 inning for the bullpen to f*** up what the starting pitching started.

but if the SP gives up 4 runs in one inning, that sets a bad tempo for the game

so same thinkg can be said about SP ruining it for BP by not giving them a chance

The most important innings of the game are the last 3. When you are talking about teams like NY and Boston, you are talking about teams that will score upwards of 5 runs per game. This means, your rotation need not be stellar. All you need is for them not to suck. It also means you will have a lot of leads. And nothing nosedives a teams chances like watching them dominate games during innings 1-6 only to watch innings 7-9 be their downfall. If you have a solid bullpen you know your deficit wont be increased if you are down and your lead wont get blown. Makes the offense much more comfortable and your rotation feel the need to be less perfect. You have a s*** pen and your rotation will feel the burn. They will feel the need to go 7-8-even 9 innings a night of flawless work so some schmuck doesnt come in and steal a win from them.

if you give up runs at the beginning of the game, it gives your offense the chance to make it up, chip away over time. If you give up 4 runs in the 8th, then the offense needs it all in one fell swoop and that wont happen too often.
