Clay Buchholz getting the start today against the Rays. It'll be interesting to hear how he pitches today.

Bucholz seems to be reprenting himself very well after 4 innings. He's throwing lots of quality strikes and he has given up no runs on 3 hits and at least 1 of those was a blooper.

In the bottom of the 3rd, Youk showed his lack of 2nd to home speed on Manny's hit. That left the bases loaded and cost a run. In fairness to Youk, I did not see the hit, so I don't know if it was scorched and there was no chance for anyone to score.

Between our two catchers this spring' date=' the higher BA is .121. That is ridiculous. We may have an automatic out in the lineup.[/quote']

yup and one of them is being paid 10 mil a year

It was a line drive to Carl Crawford.

If Youkilis scored on the play, hell would have frozen over.

Is Ortiz going to be an automatic out because he is hitting 190.?

Ortiz didn't fall off a cliff last year.

Normally I don't agree with 700s critical view of things, but this I do agree with him on.

For Bucholz's 1st "outing" vs a major league lineup (4.2 innings, 7 Hits, 2 Runs, 0 Walks, 3 Ks) was commendable for a guy who's never faced batters above Single A. The 2 runs came in the 5th after he went scoreless the first 4

It was nice to see him do well. Maybe in a couple of years he can fill a slot at the back of the rotation. That being said, if he could help us get a front of the rotation stud to step in when Schilling hangs them up, I'd be very happy.

he hit 238 with a 325 OBP
...and it's not like we can bench him until he finds his swing. Mirabelli hit under .200 last season. Most of the season he was around .150. This spring he's at a blistering .121.

I think it's great to break camp knowing that there is a kid like Buchholz in the organization. No walks and 3 K's in 4 and 2/3 for his first game above A ball. If he can work on a change up to go with his 95 plus fastball, he could one day be a front line starter.

According to Castiglione Theo says Buchholz has the best stuff of anyone he's drafted in his era.

He gave up three runs (I believe) on an infield basehit with an error, a bloop single, a Crawford triple and a sac fly. This is the type of 3 runs that Schilling, Beckett or Daisuke (or Santana or Oswalt) will give up regularly this season. No biggie.

On the radio they were extremely impressed with his poise and stuff. Theo or Francona (or someone) referred to his "Francisco Rodriguez like curveball" which sounded very effective today. Unfortunately it wasn't televized.

ksushi, where did you hear that? According tohttp://soxprospects.com/players/buchholz-clay.htm, he pitched for Single A Greenville and then was promoted to Single A Wilmington. Maybe he pitched in the Double A playoffs that youre thinking of

None of whom have made it to the major league starting rotation, so it's not a high bar to cross.

Because they're what, 21?

All of Theo's draftee's are either still in the minors and in their low 20's, or they are Papelbon who is in the bullpen.

Lay off 700, the whole hating on every player under the age of 35 thing is getting tired.

Maybe so, but criticizing someone for not making a major league team when they can't even buy a beer seems foolish, no?

Besides, I stopped clashing with his view's a long time ago.

The Sox bats woke up in this 6-5 win tonight, powered by the HRs of Manny, Drew, Youkilis, and Pedroia

Tavarez facing a good Phillies lineup (and in hitter's park) went 5.2 innings, allowing 1 run on 6 hits, no walks and striking out 2
