are they greasing the skids for his departure or are they genuinely concerned about his weight??

this ownership group tends to do its bidding in the press and schill saw how they treated petey and damon in their contract years

evidently hes unhappy with not getting his extension done

of course its buckley writing this article

so take it for what its worth

my take on this

with the offseason spending frenzy you would think the sox would ink the man who put his career on the line and pitched his ass off with his ankle tendon stapled together

he isnt looking for a raise or a long term deal

just a 1 year extension

why are they playing around with this guy after emptying the vault on other men who havent done a f***ing thing for us.....as of yet?

Know who Gehrig38 is?

Can you guys imagine if we were actually pissed at each other? This could get ugly fast? Now we'll just have to let hacks and idiots like CHB stir up something that does not exist.

John Henry and I had a very comfortable discussion walking across the field yesterday. I have nothing but the utmost respect for him, and think he feels the same way about me.

Theo and I had a very comfortable discussion the last two days as well.

The Red Sox knew I was doing the morning radio show on WEEI and contrary to what Hemingway wrote in the Globe it's not a 'paid appearance' and never has been. THe money raised on EEI is for ALS and always has been.

The Red Sox knew, and we spoke at length prior to, this going public in January. We both knew that someone in the media had found out from someone other than Theo or I about the discussions and that person was going to write about it, with what would have been incorrect facts. No one was blindsided and no one really cared about the perception of it going public other than to want the facts to get reported.

I know CHB finds it hard to believe, which is understandable, but the 'gun to the head' approach was never a factor here, both sides knew this.

I'd love to tell you I look like Gabe Kapler with my shirt off, I don't. However I weigh 243 pounds right now, which is exactly 2 pounds under what I weighed in at at seasons end last year. The clothes make me look fat.......

Am I disappointed? Yep. Am I surprised? Nope. Is everyone but the parties involved making way too much out of this? Yep.

I've forever needed baseball a whole hell of a lot more than it needs me, I've always known that. I have also always known that it is a business, even when you don't want it to be.

Please trust me when I say, and have said, this will have zero bearing on my preperation or performance this season. I don't pitch for contracts, never have. My three best years were in the first year of new contracts. I PITCH TO WIN, just like most of the other guys in this game do.

One of the lines CHB failed to put into the article he wrote a few weeks back was me, on the phone, calling him an *******. He knows as sure as he's reading this right now that I think he's a giant sphincter.

At some point soon he'll realize that the dislike for him here is not because he's the guy always taking the 'other side' while trying to illicit opinions and responses from readers, but rather he's disliked because he treats people like s***.

Writers like him, and there are others I can assure you, are the reason athletes come to despise members of the media. They aren't all like that but it's just hard to figure out who's who sometimes.

I'm a father of 4 incredible kids, the husband to a woman who turned her bout with cancer into a life saving organization, the boss of a man who drives an hour each day to work, both ways, in my company, that is dying from ALS, and the Lord has blessed me with the ability to spend 21 years playing professional baseball.

I guess what I am saying is that the sun came up today, life is good. If it's meant to be that I come back here then it will happen. If not then I sure as hell will relish in the fact that I got to be here and experience something I couldn't have dreamed up.

Now move along people, talk about something like my career OPS, or can Papi hit 60 this year? Don't let the media make you waste time on issues that just aren't issues to anyone but them.

They can hate the fact that I talk on EEI, or write in these forums, hell he's done it for 4 years, but it's still going to happen and at the end of the day he's still going to be the most misinformed guy in this group when it comes to the Sox and their fans.

his weight doesnt concern me as much as the fact that theo wont talk to him until november from what ive read....

if we wait till november hes gone

so we can sign schill for 13M today or we can wait till november and get a stud like gil meche for the same money

this front office drives me insane

its always good to see Schilling in the headlines, he'll say onething and then claim another. the guy's a born politician. i'm surprised he didnt say he was misquoted.

I read an article in the Herald and the reporter said that Schil looked like he had eaten Dustan Pedrioa....niiiice. "Thanks for you hard work Curt, especially for 2004 but f*** you"

I don't get the FO either and I used to trust them, dumb me.

It is sad, the front office should know better than anyone. If Schilling didn't think he could pitch 2 more seasons, he'd retire, he's too proud and wants the team to do well.

Who knows, maybe something will still happen by the end of ST, but it doesn't look good.

schilling wears his heart on his sleeve

theres no confusion on where he stands

personally i dont like the man or his grandstanding be it over christianity or politics

i didnt like him calling out scott williamsons courage as the man needed season ending surgery

how would you like to have a guy like schilling questioning your courage as you attempt to pitch while needing surgery??

proffesionally

he did the impossible and exactly what he said he would do on by sticking it up 55,000 nyers ass in game 6 leading the sox to the workd series win as he predicted when he signed here....

weight shouldnt be that big of an issue

if he pitches with a sub 4 ERA, he could weigh 500 pounds for all i care

but yet again his weight could affect his pitching, but i dont see it being a problem - i could be wrong

Posted

hes got a body that will never look trim

his ass and legs are enormous

hes a big man,always been

weight??

5 lbs is nothing but a good weekend

a little guy like me can piss that out on a monday morning

20 lbs is a problem for a 40 year old man who had his ankle operated on and needed an entire season to heal

again

it may just be the front office greasing the skids for his departure using weight as an excuse

Posted
Best case scenario: Schill is fired up by being not being extended that he pitches like he has a lot to prove. That would be the best thing possible for the 2007 Boston Red Sox team.
Posted
Since 1993 Shill has had only 1 year with an ERA over 4....and that was the year coming off of ankle surgery! Shill pitches with his legs, he won't look "like kapler" but the sox will regret not signing him. Now if they want him it will probably cost them 16+mil a year and 2 years!

What if Schilling posts numbers comparable to his second half last year? Is the $13 million investment smart then?

If he pitches well, they'll sign him for a couple extra million in the offseason.

If he sucks, then let one of the kids take over.

A couple of million? Try 4 million per year more and a two year contract, as for what the 13 million, need I remind you of Meche?

Schilling is one of the only guys that you can say "deserves" an extension. Even if he's not 04 Schill this year, you KNOW he'll at least be competent enough to be a 3rd or 4th starter next year, and that's all we need assuming Beck and DiceK make their mark. Is $14 million a lot to pay for a 3rd or 4th guy? Sure. Is $14 million too much to pay to allow a guy who put his career on the line to make the dreams of all of New England come true finish up on the Sox? Hell no.

ok .... everyone they need to resign him what pitcher in the last 10 yrs has said i will bring boston world series and actually come threw ..I think its him . Look what that guy did for us his first yr

first of all it was a team effort , but i do agree we should sign him for one extra year for 13 mil , cause if he does really good this year the price tag will go up him and the sox will regret it

The Red Sox organization does not owe Curt Schilling anything. We are all greatful for what Curt did, but it was his choice to pitch on the bad ankle. The organization did not force him on the field in game 6. They need to see, after a tough second half of the season last year if he can still bring it. If he proves that he is still worth having around come 2008, then the sox will pay him and bring him back.

I personally think Schilling will be back. However, it would be a horrible business decsion to sign him now. Schilling did not win the W.S. by himself; did they owe Pedro anything how about Damon, Millar, Cabrera, Lowe? No, baseball is a buisness and the Red Sox front office is made up of a bunch of savy buisness men who know what the hell they are doing.

Actually, what they are doing is perfect. He is a 40 year old pitcher who is showing signs of slowing down. Your front office is willing to take a chance and pay him a little more at the end of the year if he has a good season than give him an extension now and not know what will happen this year.

The Yankees are doing the same thing with Mariano. Great business model from both sides. Think about it. Where would Schilling go? The Yankees? He's a legend in Boston. No other team can offer him the same possibilites, stage, and post-season opportunities. He goes nowhere. Just like Mariano, Jeter, Ortiz. It just makes no sense, fiscally or otherwise. Relax RSN. If his age catches up to him, and one season it will, you will be glad that your front office didn't hamstring itself.

If money's the problem in this deal, just try and sign Schill to like a $10-11 mill contract for one year... I know their not gonna save that much money but Schill isn't gonna sign a $4 mill contract...

Finally, a Yankee fan I can agree with.

ha

he couldve pulled a clemens circa 1986 and left with a blister or he couldve pulled a clemens circa 1990 and get tossed for showing up the umpire or he couldve pulled a clemens circa 1999 and left with a trick hammy or pulled a clemens circa 2004 and left with the assorted above ailments in game 1 of the world series

or

he couldve simply acted human and sat out games 6 and 2

and we'd still be discussing curses after ny dusted our asses again

they dont owe him anything eh??

john henry and the other 18 or so assorted investors should be sucking this guys cock for eternity

the organization has spent 100M on a japanese guy who hasnt gotten anyone in mlb out yet

they gave jd drew, refered to nationally as a cancerous pussy,, 14M per

they gave renteria 19M to lead shortstops in errors while hitting a robust .270

they gave lugo 36M after he had a worse 2nd half than schilling

you say they dont owe schilling anything?

they let damon petey and lowe walk, theyve been dying to dump manny from day 1

who the f*** are they going to reward for ending 86 years of futility besides jd drew??

so its a business decision?

they owe us,the fans, the decency of making this guy finish his career in boston by offering him what he asked for,1 year, same money as hes making this year

the guy won 15 games for us last season

he isnt being a greedy prick by asking for a 2 year 30M deal,he only wants a 1 year extension which is far less a gamble than the jd drew or matsusaka deal

Posted

its a business eh??

who were our closest competitors in the jd drew sweepstakes?

how much more did we outbid our closest competetors for matsusaka

how did they do in the renteria deal??

5 shortstops in 4 f***ing years including 2 rookies of the year and 2 of the smoothest gloves this city ever saw in cabrera and agon...

the redsox front office is more dysfunctional than anna nicole smiths family and acting just as stupid

Yet we seem to be compatative every year, except for the second half of last season. It also looks like the Red Sox could be one of the best teams in the AL this year, so yes I think the FO knows what they are doing. Renteria wasn't a horrible FO move the guy had a great track record but he just failed in Boston, players that like that sometimes just happen. I think most agree that Alex was to much of an offensive liability to keep around. I also think we will be happy with Lugo at short. As for DiceK he seems like the real deal, and they bid so much because he was so important to their plans that they could not afford not to obtain the negotating rights.
