Oh and giving him the number 18? Is it just me or is that a slap in Johnny's face that is so not deserved?

People wore the # 18 for the Red Sox last year.

he's probably a last resort option. What happened to him second half last year anyway? Injury or did he just completely implode?

Roids.

Hilarious Beckett. Well, he's human, isn't he? I notice that's the only way Chinese Taipei got that run across. I think we have hit a jackpot with him; the only question is how many games is the guy going to win for us? Not to put pressure on him but I think with any kind of support he's good for between 15-18. And he's not in pinstripes.:D :D :D :D :D

OK so two days ago this deal wasn't going to happen so I put it out of my brain to study 24/7 for finals. Today I find myself walking to Shaws wondering what the hell all of those people were doing outside Fenway' date=' and sure enough, Dice-K was signed. I am really indifferent to this. If he's great, that's great, if he's not, oh well. I watched some of the news conference and he looks like a respectable player that I will definitely not boo. I just hope that the tickets I get for next season are for games that he is pitching. Oh and giving him the number 18? Is it just me or is that a slap in Johnny's face that is so not deserved?[/quote']

The guy wore #18 for all his career so it is not a slap in the face for Johnny----YET!!!!! Let's say he becomes a lights out pitcher and leads us to a couple of WS triumphs and we decide to retire his number. THAT WOULD BE A SLAP IN JD'S FACE. Anyway, you guys got Pettitte and he's not exactly liverwurst.

I believe signing with the arch rival after specifically saying that you would not sign with them is probably a bigger slap in the face. Anyways this isn't the first time since the immortal Jason Johnson wore it last year as did Dustan Mohr.

Like Brent said, it's the number that he's worn in Japan, and the number that he's worn basically all his life. He was hoping it was available when he signed.

Whoa, I just responded to you... you didn't fall off of the earth!

Oh fair enough, I didn't know that. I just assumed it was like "Hah Johnny we wouldn't pay for you even though you got us a ring but we are gonna pay up for this guy who isn't proven (arguably, WBC counts? or doesn't count? who is to say) in the AL MLB! :harhar: "...but that's why I come here, to be enlightened I guess.

And no, I did not fall off the face of the earth. :D

I'm actually even more present in RSN now that I live about 5 seconds from it's nucleus.

Dustan Mohr the 5th outfielder last May wore #18, now that was a slap in the face to Johhny Damon. Honestly its not like Damon is going to the Hall of Fame, our next potential ace wants to wear the # he's had since he was in high school... the Sox are going to say no because of an outfielder who was here for just 4 years?

there is no slap in the face here.

Except for the one his momma gave him for being born ugly. Zing!

Just in case some of you don't see my post in the other thread .... here:

If this is indeed true, that was a steal. Nice job, guys. Seems like, from the report, that they were able to get Boras to accept incentives in the deal. This is about 8.66 million/year. I can't believe that Boras would settle for that in guaranteed money. I'm ecstatic that we were able to get him for less than 15 million, because I was ready to dish out that much. Boras lowering his guaranteed money demands by almost 7 million? Unheard of.

Schill, perhaps Boras was feeling some heat himself from the Japanese baseball people, knowing that if he blew the deal with Dice-K, it might be difficult for him to assemble any more players from that country. The Seibu Lions wanted DM signed and did not want to lose that money. Whatever, it worked out well for us and Boras will come out of it looking good in the eyes of the Japanese. If this guy is as good as advertised we really struck gold and good fortune. Now let's be greedy; let's get that closer and call it a winter's worth of work. Then, again, any of you think we really might want to reel in the Rocket?

Haha this was way over my head, I just didnt realize it. Matsuzaka in 2007 will be rookie in the major leagues, hence he's already at the top to be rookie of the year in the AL unless someone like Delmon Young blows him out of the water. Reports/scouts I have read are predicting around 15 wins, an ERA of 3.5 - 4 and close to 200 Ks (if not more)

Though Foxsports Roger Rotter is off his rocker (sorry for the pun) as he pencils Matsuzaka as the #4 guy in this year's rotation? Yeah whatever to that. By all accounts he will be starting the 2nd game of the season vs KC, then follow up with the home opener vs Ichiro & the Mariners

185 Hits

16 HR

63 BB

200 K

2.74 ERA

1.154 WHIP

8.37 K/9

3.18 K/BB

Alex Gordon' date=' the guy is gonna be special in KC.[/quote']

Alex Gordon is a third baseman and projects as a outstanding ML player, but Teehan had a good year this past season and the Red Sox ought to be thinking of trying to trade for this guy since they will need one after 2007 and we don't know if Spann will be ready to take over. That is a trade that could be made, especially if Gordon is projected to supplant an already good player.

Looks like he's warming up to pitch his first game in New York.

Just having that guy on our side should sit pretty well with the lot of us. After all, this guy is no chopped liver. I really feel we may put together a rotation that could be as good as any in the American League. Now, my friends, let's get Drew signed, get a closer and then start having sweet dreams about a very nice 2007 season.

There's a blue wall in the background.

They use blue screen technology quite a bit in commercials. That's in a studio in Japan. That's not a Photoshop job.
