Scott Boras will be holding a press conference at his Newport Beach, Calif., offices at 9 p.m. EST this evening. The Japanese media, as well as the Associated Press, is expected to be on hand. Boras will be, or he had better be, asked about the state of negotiations between the Red Sox and his client, Daisuke Matsuzaka. Boras has not been heard from recently as talks have essentially broken down between him and the Red Sox about the fate of Matsuzaka.

There are conflicting reports as to whether or not Matsuzaka will be at the press conference, so we’ll probably just have to wait and see.

should be interesting

Boras is the king of using the media to do his dirty work.

On one hand I'd say look for him to not say much concrete, but lay the ground work for molding a public perception that makes the Sox FO look like the barrier to getting this deal done.

On the other hand I'd like to think that the he'd not fck with the front office so publicly as they are #2 in spending and are one of the hands that feed him.

I'm really not sure what to make of this press conference.

I'm curious.

With Gil Meche landing a $11 million dollar deal in KC, is Boras really being unfair asking for $15 million?

not at all, I thought Jason Schmidt money was going to be his determining factor, and that single contract is the reason why I think he should get no less than 15 mil a yr.

Wasnt there a rumor floating around the other day saying that the Sox were to announce the signing of Matsuzaka on Monday supposedely for 6 years $72 million dollars? (today) Very doubtful, but could that be what this is about?

Yes he is. Free Agents are paid based on how much people would be willing to spend on the free market. The free market existed, in this case, in the form of a bidding process. LIke it or not that's the case. The Red Sox are ready to pay a SHITLOAD of money to get Seibu to allow them to sign Matsuzaka. That was where this was "free". The Yankees should have bid more. that's all.

Now, the deal Matsuzaka signs should be a reasonable one. I wouldn't say he deserves to be paid like a former All-Star like Schmidt, since he's not an all star. Matsuzaka has made a few million a season in Japan, but he's a rookie here. When I see how much pitchers like Liriano and Papelbon and Verlander are making, there is nothing in my mind that says Matsuzaka absolutely HAS TO make 16m a season (like Andy Pettitte). A reasonable deal woudl be 12-13 a season for 5 seasons. Or, less with more potential in reasonable incentives.

I must say that offseason baseball coverage is pretty s*****. ESPN should interrupt their "important" musings on whether or not AI will get traded to another non-contending basketball team for 10 minutes to show one of the unheralded players in all of sports doing what he does best: lying. f***ing show some boras, geez.

I have no idea what he would have to say, other than that negotations are over and that Matsuzaka is going home.

Boras: "I just wanted to call everyone here to say that the red sox are not meeting our demands and Matsuzaka will be going back to Japan. What you do not know, is that I enjoy dressing in drag and take it firmly in the behind."

Sox brass in California to meet with Dice-K

By Gordon Edes, Globe Staff

With agent Scott Boras declaring last night that if "the parties' positions remain the same, Daisuke will return to Japan,'' the Red Sox top brass were in southern California to meet face-to-face with Daisuke Matsuzaka in a last-ditch attempt to induce him to sign.

Boras said that GM Theo Epstein, accompanied by principal owner John W. Henry and CEO Larry Lucchino, had come to conduct negotiating sessions last night and today in an attempt to beat Thursday's midnight deadline for a deal.
