ORS, thanks for the heads-up on Jacksonian. I must be getting old and I got him mixed up with Riverside who I thought was the Yankee fan on this board. Riverside straightened me out on that. Hey, though, I really like Jacksonian. He's been a square shooter with me all the way and he seems to really know his baseball. I'll tell another thing Red, it is really better to have fans of other teams on a board like this. When a Red Sox board is just for fans of our team it can really get dull and monotonous as on one particular board. Anyway, as long as they aren't trolls it's fine with me. BTW, how do you like our signings so far?

I don't mind the Yankee fans here as long as they aren't just here to talk s***. Jacko doesn't do that, so he's OK in my book. Don't know about how straight he shoots, but he'll do.

Our signings? Overall, I like them. Drew should bring what the pre-2004 Trot Nixon brought to the team. Good RF defense, a strong arm, solid stick at the plate, with a good eye to make pitchers work. Lugo will bring good speed, and he's been a solid offensive performer in the AL East.

I won't sell you a box of goods and say I don't have any reservations, though. I question how Drew's seeming ambivalence will go over with the Fenway Faithful. I fear that a long contract is not a terribly wise move with someone who misses games as regularly as he does. Lugo's defense scares me. These guys are definate upgrades, but they have some warts.

Drew's arm is average at best...slightly better than Damon, but not much.

You can't be serious? Most of the scouting reports I've read credit his arm as an asset, some calling it a cannon. The guy plays RF. You don't do that without an arm. Damon? Unbelievable.

I have heard average as well, but Damon? His is WELL below average.

Hahahaha, ok, fair enough...Damon's arm is in a class by itself...but Drew's arm is far from an asset. I think it was very strong when he first game into the league, but if I remember correctly, he had a shoulder injury a couple of years back that affected it greatly.

Apparently, this guy has a history of injury problems...have any of you guys heard that? Hahahahaha.

I haven't seen Drew play much but from what I've read he still has a cannon. We will see in spring training I guess.

Drew has a better arm than Nixon.

well, if you believe the folklore, Nixon's arm was held together with duct tape and shards of glass. He could also s*** roses on command. As a matter of fact, the folklore said that there was no theory of evolution. Just a list of species Trot Nixon has allowed to live.

I am not a Drew fan and like almost everyone has questions about his ability to stay in the field, but Nixon is only a shadow of the player that he was 3-4 years ago.

bitter, no. I think they shed some much needed baggage. But they do need another starter and the market is shrinking.

No 700, Jackson is a good guy and I think he is a class act. I anticipate a lot of back-and forth banter with him when the Yankees and Red Sox go at it next season. Besides, let's face it, they have had less to do than we have. We need to move and fast. Well we moved but I wouldn't call it fast.:D :D :D

Super Manny, Drew has a very good arm, he has a very good bat, he can field, run and throw as well as hit for power. He has been subject to a lot of crap over the past couple of years and especially from a few bitter Dodger fans in LA. Barring unforseen circumstances, this guy is going to have some very good yearss for us.

he will have some good yrs if he is healthy, but nothing to justify his salary. He isnt a superstar. He is not a guy you can build a team around.

That's exactly right my friend. He is not a superstar but a very solid player who can do an awful lot with the bat and glove when healthy and I think he is going to have some good years for the Red Sox. And that is why we must NOT trade Manny because he and Papi ARE two players you can build an offense around and they can carry a team when hot. What I like about Drew is that he can hit 300, hit 25-30 homers and drive in 90-115 runs and being capable of that means that Manny is going to see some good pitches. As for salary, not, is is not worth $14 mil, but neither Soriano or Lee were worth what they got either. The market dictated it Jackson, and it seems that many teams had a lot of money to throw around. Sheeet, can you imagine what either one of us could do with $14 mil? Hell, what I could do with just one mil.:D :D :D :D :D :D

ROFL! bitter? uhh not likely....more like overjoyed that christmas had come early... nancy has done nothing but earn hatred and venom from dodger fans for his seeming indifference to playing, putting up very average numbers, having an awesome strikeout pose, and pulling up lame or straining his vagina after routine plays...

...bitter?? HAH! Neddy was able to put that $$$ to good use and actually go out and sign players that want to be here in L.A., unlike that bible-thumping hypocrite who only days before opting out had given his word he was staying. f*** him! i am counting down the days til the red sox faithful & the media tear him up.

as for Manny being traded tonight, i doubt it, but i'd be surprised if he's around by opening day, or shortly thereafter...

Drew will care. He has the rep of being a large gaping vagina.
He doesn't give a s*** what his team mates think. Do you think he will care what the media thinks? I don't

For a Red Sox fan you sure seem to be carrying a torch for the Dodgers. Yes, Neddy used some of the money for a good purpose----Jason Schmidt. Hell of a pitcher. But if you think Louie Louie is going to do a better job for you than Drew did you had better put that crack pipe down pronto. And let me ask you a question point blank. It's the 2007 World Series and the Dodgers are playing the Red Sox. Who do you root for? You don't have to question where I stand but let me know where you do---just for the hell of it.

Posted
Both teams need to make it there first. So that question is pretty much a fantasy. It's a very long season and anything can happen. Good luck to both teams.

Yaz, even though you are spot on right, at least at this moment, why rain on Ez's parade, or mine for that matter. Let us dream of such a matchup. It will be 91 years next season since the two teams met in a World Series and it would be hoot to see them tangle again-------a hoot, that is, as long as the team wearing the red takes the cake.:D :D :D :D

I mentioned this in another thread but this seems like the better place for it. Turns out the Atlanta Braves are interested in aquiring Rocco Baldelli. If that was the case they would probably be looking to move Andruw Jones since both play CF.

I would think this is where Manny Ramirez comes into play. Either the Atlanta Braves would have interest in Manny or would be looking to make a three way deal in which Andruw Jones would end up in Boston.

I might be reading too much into nothing.

I think you are reading far too deeply into this. I think Jones is firmly on the block, but I have a feeling he wont be lacing up in Boston. Think about it, Jones is a boras client. Dont think for a second that he wont force Jones to go to FA next yr where he could make 20 mil a season.
