5yrs 70 mil. WOWZAH.

Yeah, it seems utterly insane. On the other hand, the way this year's free agent inflation has gone, by 2010 he could be bargain. Who the hell knows which way the wind's blowing these days. Not me.

by 2010 he will likely be on his 3rd set of knees and in his 2nd turbo powered wheelchair.

As long as it's turbo-powered. The Sox might be able to get a two-for-one so he and Papi can race. Sweet.

I can dig it. I mean I know it's ludacris, but as stated, the market is setting these trends, and supply and demand has taken over. I like Drew, hopefully he can last this contract and stay healthy, because when healthy he is one of the more talented OFs in the game.

Boras has confirmed the deal

Outfielder J.D. Drew has agreed to a five-year, $70 million contract with the Red Sox, according to Drew's agent, Scott Boras. The deal will be completed after Drew takes a physical.

I think Drew will thrive in Boston kinda like when he was in ATL

I think its a good signing, a .286 avg .393 obp .512 slg, hitter batting behind the best 3-4 combo in baseball

BIG upgrade to Nixon.

Judging from his past performance I see no reason why he cannot stay healthy throughout the longest contract he has ever signed. JD plays hard and is loved by everyone that he has not played for. Boston has found a gem to replace Man-Ram. I am looking forward to watching Ortiz break Bonds walk record next year.

Manny will hopefully stay. Tito said he thinks Manny won't be traded at this point and the team is about to stop shopping him around. Drew will be a great addition in the #5 spot. Lugo

Youk

Ortiz

Manny

Drew

That gives me a smile.

Lugo

Youkilis

Ortiz

Ramirez

Drew

Willy Mo

Lowell

Varitek

Pedroia

that has potential to be one of the best Sox lineups in a couple years, depending on if Varitek/Drew can stay healthy and if Willy Mo and Lowell can produce like they did last year (i also think Willy Mo will break out if he gets 400+ AB's)

I'm just really glad Manny is looking like he's staying. That lineup would suck 5-9 without him. As for Nancy, at 14m/year for 5 years, they had better sign Matsuzaka. If they don't sign him because a couple of million a year, they will look pretty crazy.

Firstly, it is looking like Manny is staying, sorry to dash those hopes of yours, and this does nothing but help the team, worst coems to worst, WMP gets some shots in RF and to develop.

He's a HBP away from 3 straight 145+ game seasons. I know you love to flaunt his "injury" history, but stop acting like he's got a chronic problem.

so he got hit in the wrist. How do you explain the other 3 injury plagued seasons.

Cool. I've always liked this guy. Just hope his injuries can, you know, not happen.

Welcome JD Drew.

Now that he's signed officially and the Manny rumors have died down, we need to bear down with Boras and punch out a Matsuzaka contract.

"He's going to be a contributor. They had two big sluggers, righty-lefty, Ortiz and Ramirez," Boras told the Associated Press. "J.D. has a great on-base percentage. He gives you a quality at-bat. He's an RBI guy. And he's really going to add a defensive component to that team that is, I think, really going to enhance their play, what they do both with arm strength and his ability to cover ground in the outfield. And his baserunning -- he can run a little bit. He is going to steal 20 or 30 bases. He's going to bring a dimension there."

i dont think he's going to be stealing 20-30 bases anytime soon

What other 3? Are you only looking at games played? He played 25 AA games in '99 prior to playing 100+ games for the Cards as a rookie.

Then there is 2001 and 2003. I don't know what the injuries were. Sportnet.ca only goes back to 2004 with injury history. Whatever the case, whatever it was that hurt him then hasn't recurred in the last 3 years. Is he a concern? Sure, but he's no "sure-fire trip to the 60-day DL because it's an odd year and he likes cheese sandwiches" like you love to suggest.

After the Drew signing I don't think anyone can continue to deny that letting Damon walk to the Yankees for 4/$52 was a mistake

I must have taken a long slumber last night, I though it was 2006, not 2009.

The Damon signing, and Drew signing, won't be determined mistake/non-mistake until they run their course (or someone goes out for substantial time). We'll see in a couple of years.
