its up to him to pick up the option right? and there is no way he does better money wise than what he would get with us if he decided to stay. so id expect to see him back here next year or traded.

From what has been said about him. It is up to him to come back to the team for next year. I don't see him throwing away that much money. Right now he has to prove himself to everyone that he can still pitch like he used to do.I don't see anybody else taking a chance on him right now. Maybe a trade in spring training after everyone see what he can do.

Here's my advice to Keith:

(1) pick up the $3.5m option

(2) go on HGH and see if added strength can get your fastball outta the 80's.

(3) learn another pitch

(4) pray

All he needs is for his legs to be healthy.

uhhh, yeah.

Ever think why he suddenly started having the sort of health issues he has? He was on my suspected performance enhancing drug users list going back to '02-'03. A significant body transformation followed by nagging injuries...kind of Nomaresque, if you ask me. Yup, I think he juiced. And I think HGH could help his "legs to be healthy" again.

If he had been juicing, I think he would have been throwing harder than 88-89 in those years. He used to hit mid-90's. By '03-04, he'd already lost that velocity, yet he was very effective. Also, I didn't notice a big change in him physically other than he got a little fat in '05 due to lack of training because of the knee problems.

He used to be a lot thinner...seemed like each year with the White Sox he got a little more robust and got his fastball into the low 90's...I don't ever remember him in the mid 90's...but then he went to Oakland, beefed up a little more, and in 2004 he was a pretty good size guy with that classic big head (still throwing 91-92 when he reached back)...then he suddenly tails off and has the nagging type injuries often associated with post-steroid use.

I could be wrong.

Foulke is a significantly lesser risk injury-wise than Gagne, who is constructed of papier mache, yet speculation (however insane) was that the Sox would give Gagne a 2-year deal for $6M per. I think there are a lot of teams who would throw Foulke a one-year deal with a decent base and good incentives to see if he can come back. We're talking about a guy who was actually throwing last year versus a guy coming off his second elbow injury and two slipped discs.

I would be pretty happy if he opted in but I'm doubtful. He doesn't really seem to love the Fenway Faithful (or media). /understatement

Foulke will most likely be back. He isn't going to turn down that amount of money to pitch next year. I think he will be back next season but beyond that we aren't going to see Keith Foulke in a Red Sox uniform.

I am surprised at his decision. I don't see any team taking a chance on him as a closer, and I don't see any team giving him $3.75 million guaranteed to pitch the 7th or 8th.

I agree I think if he still wants to pitch he made a mistake turning down his player option, I can't believe a team out there would pay him more money then that to pitch in the set up role and he is to risky closing.:)

I don't know that there is a team willing to pay him period.

nobody is going for him yet. He is a tier C FA. They still have the B's to rip through before he gets any consideratin. As much as anyone on here rips on him, he is still an upgrade over what the sox have now, which is saying more about the status of the sox pen than it does about Foulke himself.

Keith Foulke, closer on the 2004 World Series champions, is expected to sign with a team today, but it won't be the Red Sox. The free agent could be close to striking a deal with Cleveland.

just saw that, interesting. The Guardians now have foulke and borowski in the pen with other puddles of s***. The Guardians and the red soxare gonna be in the same boat with the pen. Great O, solid starters, s*** in the pen.
