OK i give up.....

Vernon wells went on TV today in an interview and said the ESPN report about him turning down a contract extension was totally false and that he's never gone to management rrequesting a trade. He says that if the blue jays up the ante a bit, he'd be more than willing to stay...

That's all..i'm done in this thread..dammit

players dont always tell the truth on tv

Anyone else see the huge contradiction here? If the rumor he turned it down is false, why does the ante need to be upped?

Yeah, I noticed, but most players are full of it.

The ante needs to be upped because Vernon is worth a lot more now than his previous contract paid him.. for every player who improves a better contract should be made. there's no contradiction ;)

yeah players don't always tell the truth...neither do ESPN people. cap space was cleared for him first and foremost

If he's talking about his current contract, then yeah, there's no contraditcion. That type of phrasing is used a lot by players and agents when talking about an offer. I've never heard of anyone referring to the salary they already make as an ante.

It's all BS posturing for PR purposes, trying to get the fans on one side or the other. The FO plays these games in its own way. They even lie to each other during the face to face negotiations.

Vernon will test the FA waters this offseason, that is a lock, no matter what he says right now. Toronto has no chance of giving him the caliber of baseball or the money he wants. Plus, as we've seen, management appears to favour Gibbons even though he seems to be a total a-hole.

I say he's a probable for the Giants to sign. He would fit in well there and he's just what they need when they finally decide to part with Barry, Winn, and/or Alou.

He is not a FA until after 2007.

Of all the people on this team, you think WMP is the problem and don't want him on the team moving forward? That's almost indefensible.

If Wells does decide to leave Toronto the Sox should push very very hard for this guy. Think about it havin a lineup that consists of Manny, Ortiz and Vernon Wells. And not only does he bring a bat to the team he will bring an amazing outfield presence he can catch almost any ball and he has a gun for an arm. I think it would be a biggggggg mistake if the Sox didn't make a push for this guy. Also because you know the Yankees will be pushing for him.

The Sox will make a run for him but who is to say JP even wants to trade him within the AL east. My guess is he won't.

veron wells will be a texas ranger. there hitting just keeps gettin better. yankees need to unload arod prob to the angels for ervian santana and bring up duncan. id rather see the yankees pay off more than half of arods salary than have him be in pinstrips next year. plus id rather have a guy like duncan come up and do crap in the postseason then arod come but and do absoutely nothing.

Or wells is going to go to Texas back to his home state like his wife wants

Why the hell would the Blue Jays give a s***?

Why the hell would the Rangers give a s***? They need pitching!

Wells will either a) Sign a nice fat contract extention and parade centerfield for the BJ's for the half decade or so or B) Be traded to the Rangers (His home) like his wife wants to play with his best friend Micheal Young. These 2 came up together in the Blue Jay farm system and became very close, barring an ill advised Esteban Loaiza for Prospects (Micheal Young) trade made by the Jays in the past, Young would be the everyday SS for the Jays and everyone would be happy.

Scenario B is the more likely of the 2

I don't think there's any way the Angels make the trade. ARod, with the exception of Pujols, is the best player in the game today, and probably of the past 25 or 30 years. He's going to command more than Ervin Santana...I think the Yankees would ask for Santana, Maicer Izturis, and Scott Sheilds in exchange for ARod, especially if the Yanks are going to agree to pick up the bulk of ARod's deal, which they would definitley have to do. They'll go after Izturis because he's not a huge player, but Duncan isn't ready yet, IMO. I think that makes the price tag too high for LAA. They need a big bat to protect Vlad in that lineup, but they can't mortgage a rock solid late-inning/set-up man, an EXTREMELY hot young pitching prospect, and a solid SS to get it. I think a more likely scenario is that ARod gets sent to San Diego for a deal that includes Scott Linebrink and some prospects. The whole Pinella going to Chicago thing kinda flips some stuff upside down, too, though...:dunno:
