I've seen comments from Beckett about how he doesn't like to do as much preparation as guys like Schilling does. He prefers to pitch by 'feel'. I read this as, "I don't want to work that hard." He should be forced to watch film of Schilling today, every day for a year, so that he learn that it's OK to study film on your opponent and pitch -- not throw. And it wouldn't hurt if he pitched inside more also.

There you go, Curt. Stand up for your team.

The season is half over and I don’t see much evidence that Beckett has made any adjustments. Could it be ego and/or plain stubbornness?

I think he's definitely stubborn if what he's doing isn't working consistently, and he has yet to change his approach. From what I've seen, I think he's a heady kid. Ten foot tall and bulletproof. Hopefully his performance this year humbles him a bit and gets him to do what it takes to achieve his full potential.

I am hoping that as the season moves on Beckett will start to go the curve more often. Maybe he has been consciously limiting the number of times he throws the hook, because it takes more out of his arm and he wants to stay healthy. In September, we might see a much different fast ball to curveball ratio.

Beowulf is bringing it tonight. Just what the team needed. A stopper.

Curt lowers his ERA to 3.42 with 7 quality innings: 2H, 1BB, 9K on 102 pitches.

The blood of Grendle has been shed.

Manny with a hit. That three and four is a beast for opposing pitchers. How stupid must a pitcher feel when he walks Loretta to face Ortiz and Manny. You must want to take a bite out of the baseball, because you know one of those guys is going to take a bite out of your ass.

BTW: Glad that Terry went right for the PR for Manny. Let him ice his knee and get ready for tomorrow.

Wow, Tek's about 12' from a 2 HR night. The one Kotsay caught is a dinger if it's 6' to the right, that one is a dinger if it's 6' to the left.

Also glad to see that he put loyalties aside and has bumped Varitek down to the #7 spot. He has been picking things up offensively, 4 hits in the first 2 games and was so close to hitting a HR earlier in the game
