IMO the Braves are not in any danger of contending next year. Schuerholtz is saying these things so as not to lower Smoltz's market value. He would unload Hudson for the right price too.

Edit: as for needing Hansen now, I'd rather Foulke come back healthy.

Schuerholtz will not be fleeced. We need Hansen now.

I'd love Smoltz, but I don't think it's happening.

edit - Manny's second double. Bring him in please.

The Braves can easily come back and contend in a weak NL if go out and build a bullpen correctly.

You must be talking about next season.

He's been pitching injured and has been awful in the NL. He would be a disaster with the soft crap he has been throwing coming over to the AL.

All right, then who do you suggest? Tough it out with Jason Johnson?

We complain that Clement has a 6 ERA, but Livan has one in the weaker league.

Snyder needs another look. Livan ain't the answer.

edit - Mikey doubles! 2-1.

I don't think Snyder is the answer either. He faced a weak Washington team and allowed 3 runs in 5 innings, which is just less than a 6 ERA. I think there is no chance Theo does not go out and acquire a pitcher, especially with the recent developing Wakefield issue.

He's been solid in Pawtucket...

Precisely because Schuerholtz is a smart executive, Smoltz will be moved. He is from the Branch Rickey school of thought that it is better to move a player a year too soon than a year too late. He knows that he is an elbow injury away from getting nothing back for the 39 year old Smoltz. When has Schuerholtz shown any tendency to hang on to players beyond their prime or at the end of their careers.

With 10/5 rights Smoltz can veto a trade anywhere. If hes traded my bet is Detroit where it all began for him as a young kid.
Maybe, but not a certainty.

Why would we trade Hansen for a guy who is one elbow injru away from ending his career?

Plus, if ATL makes a run in the second half, they could contend for the WC this year. I really don't think they're done yet.

Those are weaker lineups than Washington' date=' they're AAA lineups. He has never had good success in the majors.[/quote']

Neither has Jason Johnson.

At least Snyder won his game.

Besides, what do you want out of a #5 starter? A guy who can keep his team competitive and eat some innings. I'm for giving Snyder a chance to see if he could do that.

LaLoosh. Hey, what do you know, good hitters can hammer the hanging curve as well as the grooved FB.

Because he can help deliver a World Championship this year, and if he does I really don't care if he retires or blows out his elbow. You guys with these thoughts of a Dynasty are going to be hoping for decades.

You haven't been watching much of them if that's what you think. They are truly terrible, especially their pen.

Until the Sox know for sure that Clement can’t make a comeback, their hands are kind of tied with the #5 starter issue.
Their hands are not tied at all. If they wait to see if Clement can come back, they would not be doing their job. With Clement's situation and Wake's developing back problem, they have to be working overtime to make sure that they have 5 good pitchers they can run to the mound.

EDit: If they snooze, they'll surely lose.

This just in, Bud Selig has announced that MLB is changing the name of a ball that goes over the fence in fair territory. It will no longer be called a 'home run', and will now be called a 'Beckett'.

Usage: Did you see how far Papi's Beckett went?

You can now return to your regularly scheduled programming.

Hell of a catch, Trot!

Fair points, but if ATL makes a bit of a run the NL is weak enough to which they can contend.
