what can you say about the consistant efforts we're getting from the jules

5-4 5era and 75 ip is enormous

hes essentially kept is in every game and he hasnt put an opposing player in a stretcher as of yet,

consider what we threw out there every 5th day last year and you can point to tavares as one of the reasons we're so much better.

he doesnt have great stuff and was never considered a starter but has really done well since we gave him the ball when we were finished last summer

this prick would pitch every day if you asked him to and the innings hes been eating up take a s*** load of pressure off the bullpen.

i hope he can stay healthy thru oct

Unbeaten in his last 6 starts.

I know someone has to go......But I really love the feel he has for #5 slot right now. Hes as much of the reason as anyone that they are playing this well.

NESN showed a graphic that when hes facing another teams ace hes a little below average...but when matched up against another teams 4 or 5 Tavarez has had the clear edge.

Dont forget hes kept us in a few games against aces (Second start against Halladay and against Santana.)

If the Sox had converted all the baserunners they got against Johan, we wouldve been looking at a 4 or 5 to 2 win.

Tavarez ahs been a great #5 pitcher, will it hold up all season? Who knows but hes doing a decent job now and thats all that matters.

I dont see how the team can put Lester above him right now. Would've been like benching Loretta at this point last season in favor of Pedroia

Lester has Major League experience and Pedrioa had no experience this time last year. This is a very different situation. We know Lester can perform and be effective.

so having a WHIP of 1.65 and opponants hitting 294 against you is effective? lester wasent all that great last year wich is why i wouldn't bring him up yet

so if we're going based on major league experience, why don't we bring up Craig Hansen more often this year? Oh thats right, 6.63 ERA last year, 5.18 ERA in AAA this year and a WHIP near 2. We all thought Hansen could preform right out of the gate, and look what he's racked up so far

Hansen lost the ability to throw his slider effectivley, this being his best pitch he was left without much to fall back on. Which led to him getting hit, which led to him having mental incapabilities on the mound. Throw in the fact the tried to tweak his pitching motion and he was just a mess. He's going to need this year and maybe next in the minors to sort out that wasp's nest.

I don't really see the point in bringing up Lester, getting him all excited then sending him back to AAA when Schill comes back. Yes I know he would be on target to pitch in his home State, and after all the guy has been threw, it would be well deserved. But when they bring Lester up, it should be for good, not just a 2 start stint. Thats why my 1st choice is still Gabbard.

All hail the great Julian tavarez .wins his 7 decision in a row . This guy has been great so far

keep up the good work JT .

hes been dirty over the last two months with a 3.39 ERA. Hasn't lost a game since May 11th.

hope he can keep pitching this well and solidify the rotation

in terms of a veteran free agent being brought in with a home-grown rookie knocking on the door to take his place, this is a similar situation

Did you see his antics on the mound when his teammates were rolling those double plays? The guy has a lot of spirit and spunk and it looks like this thread that started last year has changed a lot of minds. I might have told this story before, but last September I was in NY for the last Red Sox-Yankee Series and was at the ballpark that Friday when the game would be postponed because the rain would not stop. There Julian was out running and stopped to talk to a few fans in Spanish. I approached the guy and immediately he started speaking English and the first thing he said how much he loved playing for the Red Sox. Just like that. Very personable guy and even though I was down on him earlier this year for a couple of s***** performances I root hard every time he pitches. Needless to say he has stepped up big for us again this year as an emergency starter. He now appears to have a solid spot in the rotation.

Sorry to bump a thread from over a year ago, but I didnt want to start a new thread if I didnt have to.

Who wants to make a bet he pitches his ass off tonight knowing that Lester will most likely be brought up next week?

Heres to Julian! Youve been a lot better than I expected.....and hopefully youre on your "A" game 2nite!

Chin, kuddos to you for calling your shot last night. I just wonder if you though he would pitch THAT well, though. He really had it going last night and though the Braves are reputed to be a bad ballclub they do have some guys who can mash as Schilling found out on Tuesday. I'm going to catch the Yankee game on MLBTV this afternoon; I thought ESPN might carry it but apparently not. The Rockies have already done a good job on them but it would be even greater if they could finish it this afternoon.:D :D :D :D :D

buddy....those are the #5 starters for every team in the AL.....dress it up as you like, but those are the facts man.....

Edit: not to be a jerk......but that is the reality of the #5 starter.

Very interesting stats SCM. I just wonder if we now can still consider Julian a fifth starter? If Lester is brought up next week wouldn't he be penciled in there? Either way let's just hope Julian keeps doing his job.

Hahahaahah, Freddy Krueger was my gamethread mojo today. Good stuff. He really does look JUST LIKE HIM.

Uh, why are you on this board?

Because I like the Red Sox. Wasn't that obvious?

I thought it was obvious until you pained baseball fans as fickle. It sounded like you weren't including yourself in the group of baseball fans.

Sorry, it was a bit misleading. I am a baseball fan, but I don't think of myself as fickle. You won't see me start a thread about how a guy needs to leave after 2 bad starts for example

This thread was started last year after he gave up the walk-off grand slam to Jason Kubel of the Twins.

I was talking about Schilling. Some friends of mine want him gone because of the 2 bad starts, saying that he has nothing left in the tank.

Oh. Gotcha.

I don't want him gone right away, but they're right; he doesn't have anything left. I don't want nor expect the Red Sox to re-sign him. He's not even a shadow of the pitcher he used to be.

He's had a lot more than 2 bad starts, btw.

Just a piece of good news to report guys and gals. The Yankees lose, 4-3. That ought to bring smiles to all of our faces save for Jacko and a couple of others. We've got some of our ground gained back.

EH...not sure it matters that much. I think that level headed Yankee fans know the difference between this Yankees team, and the ones of old. Every year I am always looking in the rear view mirror, because I know the Yankees arae coming......and while I cannot honestly say I dont check out NYYFANS.com or Yankees.com everyday, I think its clear that this version of the RedSox and Yankees has a clear advantage in the direction of Boston.

Im not saying the season is over in the East, but shame on the RedSox should anything happen, there is way too much talent on this team.

Yes Chin PLEASE don't say the season is over in the East. Those damn Yankees always seem to be lurking around ready to strike. I do think this year we are stronger that the past two and they could be weaker but we still have a long way to go. The Rockies have been playing well so maybe that could be a reason, but did you or anyone else notice how Roger the Rocket got hit around today? Looks like our guy yesterday outdid their guy today.:D :D :D :D :D :D

No, I thought Roger Clemens had a good start when he failed to complete the 5th inning.
