Oddly didnt see a thread on the young right-hander who will be making his major league debut tomorrow night vs the Blue Jays. This will be his first career game above Double A. Pauley came over here in the Dave Roberts trade. Jay Payton & Ramon Vazquez also were included in the deal. As we know: Payton was a crybaby and traded to Oakland for Chad Bradford. Vazquez was dead weight for the team and the Sox did a straight up swap with Cleveland for Alex Cora.

Scouting Report: Pauley mixes a low 90s fastball with good movement, an excellent changeup, and a top-notch curveball. Has 4th or 5th starter potential. Has been very consistent in recent seasons, with some flashes of brilliance.

2006--- 2-3 record (10 starts), 2.39 ERA

In 60.1 innings he has given up 54 hits (6 Hrs) while striking out 47 & walking 17

2005--- 9-7 record (27 starts), 3.81 ERA

In 156 innings he gave up 169 Hits (18 Hrs) while striking out 104 & walking just 34 batters

I'm excited as well, I dont really know hwy we wouldn't test the waters with Lester, give him a Papelbonean experience like last year. But a shot is a shot, and I'm glad it's not someone like Alvarez or DiNardo. Who knows, Pauley could be the answer to our 5th spot problems.

Pauley gets the start tomorrow because that would have been his turn in the rotation in Portland. Lester pitched on sunday for the Pawsox so he is a no go and the fact that Pauley is already on the 40 man roster makes it a no brainer.

If pauley has a bad start, take it as a grain of salt... his first game above double A and its against the best hitting team in baseball.

Could you imagine what was going through Pauley's head last night when Beckett was getting rocked....probably something along the lines of "Oh s***"

Well, if he shuts them out it could be Kyle Davies part 2. Granted, Davies isn't TERRIBLE, but he thrived against Boston that game because there was nothing to watch on him. If he does amazingly tonight don't get too excited, hitters haven't even caught a glimpse of him yet.

Sox also had their fits with Brandon Mccarthy of the White Sox, and the first of 2 matchups against Angels' Ervin Santana

His fastball was about 90-91 all night and it did have great movement. His changeup was good at times, but he needs to have a little bit more control of it. His curveball had real nice break to it, but he couldn't locate it to save his life. I was more impressed with him than i though i would have been. Great stuff, great attitude, just needs to locate better. I have a feeling this wasn't his last game in a sox uniform.

Yeah, his curveball could be great if he gets control of it and uses it at the right time. If he indeed does get anotehr start, he needs that to go beyond 5 innings because the Jays could basically play the guessing game on eitehr the fastball or change. Furtehr down the path I think he could be a fantastic groundball pitcher, as he already incuced all those double plays, which allowed him to survive.

I hope it doesn't ruin the kid, but after watching his potential last night I could start to enjoy watching Pauley out there every 5 days. Much better than DiNardo. Despite giving up 6 runs, it was his first MLB start and he did look pretty good. I hope it's not the end of him just yet. Then again, I don't want him to be ruined if that's what's going to happen.

Did anyone eles when watching the game, see D-Lowe in this guy. I know he struggled a little bit, but stuff wise and his delivery he reminded me a lot of Lowe.

somehow i thought his wind up and pitches were like Josh beckett's even though his fast ball doesnt have as much gas

i think he's the best bet to start against the Yankees to fill in again for Wells.

He's probably the best option seeing as the yankees kill lefties (Lester/Alvarez).

I agree, give him another shot and let him work on his pitches with Nipp's help. If he gets his hook back he'll be in good shape.
It will be a blood bath. I'll have to leave Yankee stadium by the 5th inning.

Or, better yet, you could be a real fan and stay!

There's nothing more obnoxious than Yankee Stadium when the Yankees are trouncing the Red Sox. I can't stomach it.

BTW What's up with you questioning my fan loyalty?

I'm just saying stick it out, whether it's a bloodbath or not. At this point, I'd sit through a 20 run loss just to be able to be at a Red Sox game.

I'm usually a last out guy regardless of the score. I"ll probably stick it out.

Fair enough -- I'm just givin' ya s*** because I'm bitter that I'd have to buy airline tickets if I decided to go to a game.

It'd be interesting to see how he does in Yankee Stadium, if he even lasts 5 innings thatd be somewhat of an accomplishment, and he coudls induce a lot of double plays again as his sinking fastball and changeup serve well to that cause. Howeevr, if he does not have his surve, he will get trounced, as the Yankees can just sit dead red and slam balls all the way back to Boston.
