the boy is a warrior much like his brother, tuff kids who love to compete

if hes 31 then im 31

plus in cuba they pitch 12mos a year, easily go 300innings per if not more.

the boy will help us some..no doubt about it

but i dont think the nats will give him up for nothing

Is this an Elton John reference?

Like a lot of other borderline teams right now I wonder if/when the Nats will decide their season is over and start their pre-July 31st fire sale?

Yep. That would be from his song Levon.

On a side note, would anyone be interested in acquiring Kelvin Escobar? If he can stay healthy, he's got the stuff to shut down the opposition. I'm sure the Angels wouldn't mind moving him to open up a rotation spot for Jared Weaver.

i think you put Cora in the 2 spot and Gonzo 8 or 9. I prefer 8, as ive been saying and put Youk in the 9 hole to complement the top of the order

true, but you have forgotten Loretta? He is by far one of the best #2 hitters in baseball. Cora would be a downgrade in that slot, he would be fine down in the order.

I would be more interested in Kelvim Escobar than Livan Hernandez. At 30 years old he still has some time but the other nice thing is he can move to the bullpen. He has had injury problems in his career which means he could come at a smaller price.

I'd deffinitly inquire about him but the Angels are a pain in the ass to deal with.

Livan Hernandez would get OWNED in the AL East pitching at fenway. Hes strictly a fly ball pitcher, whos been pitching like s*** this year.

so much for the though of Escobar...

Angels agreed to terms with RHP Kelvim Escobar on a three-year contract extension through 2009.

No terms yet. Had Escobar remained healthy the rest of the season, he almost certainly would have received a four-year deal as a free agent this winter, possibly at $10 million per year. The 30-year-old right-hander is an injury risk going forward, so the Angels are taking a chance by signing him. Still, he was one of the best investments among the pending free-agent starters. I like Youk in the 5 hole. I think the sox should bring up Hee Sop Choi to platoon at 1B with Snow while Lowell is out.

We should either bring up lester or hansen, or trade for another starting pitcher.

Posted
Ex, three out of four isn't bad. The fourth suggestion, though, is a bummer for me and that is Hee Seop Choi. Look, I live in So. Cal and watched this guy for the better part of two seasons. He sucks to high heaven, can't hit in the clutch, strikes out way too much, is a poor fielder, and is mentally challenged with his consistent boneheaded moves both at bat and in the field. If we are counting on this guy we are in serious trouble.

Must say I'm a little suprised. I think in the end they will just switch the Weaver boys once Colon comes back.

On a side note....I think there is a good chance Abe Alvarez gets the start on 6/6 @NY. He starts tonight then his next start comes on 6/6. Too bad Hansen and Lester's starts come the next two days after.

And Matt Clement hasn't been getting OWNED? Livan is probably an upgrade over Clement or whoever happens to be in the #5 spot these days. He's also pitched well lately, his last 4 starts he's allowed 3 or less ER. Hernandez would be an upgrade over what we currently have in the rotation.

The following are pitchers who may be available at the trading deadline. This is based on the fact that each pitcher is in a contract year and/or will be playing for teams who may not be in contention in July. I'm not saying that these guys WILL be available, but it's not out of the question.

Jeff Weaver (Los Angeles Angels)

Joe Kennedy (Oakland Athletics)

Tomo Ohka (Milwaukee Brewers)

Kerry Wood (Chicago Cubs)

Greg Maddux (Chicago Cubs)

Wade Miller (Chicago Cubs)

Jamie Moyer (Seattle Mariners)

Gil Meche (Seattle Mariners)

Brian Moehler (Florida Marlins)

Ramon Ortiz (Washington Nationals)

Tony Armas Jr. (Washington Nationals)

Pedro Astacio (Washington Nationals)

Bruce Chen (Baltimore Orioles)

Kip Wells (Pittsburgh Pirates)

Paul Wilson (Cincinnati Reds)

Mark Redman (Kansas City Royals)

Brad Radke (Minnesota Twins)

Now add those players to Zito, Livan Hernandez, Dontrelle Willis, Kyle Lohse and the other players who are rumored to be available, and the pitcher's market could be decent at the deadline.

If I'm the Sox, I'm praying for the Angels to plummet and for them to make Escobar available via trade.

Escobar just resigned with Anaheim so cross him off your list.

Yeah I just saw that after I made the post.

If you look at that list it looks like a big pile of poop to me. Wood and Maddux look fine but the rest listed are strictly from hunger and would be little help to us. Zito? Well, that is another story.

As for Hernandez, the Nats would probably ask for a very good prospect. I would love for the Sox to get a guy like Williamson to streghten the pen and a guy like Matt Lawton, who was recently put on waivers buy the mariners, as a fourth outfielder until Wily Mo comes back. We should get a starter, but not if the asking price is a top prospect (Lester, Pedroia, Hansen, Ellsbury, Lowrie etc.). Maybe a Julio Lugo for SS? The Rays would definetly trade him, but in the past they have always wanted a top prospect for a player like him (over the winter they wanted Marte for him).

Wouldn't mind seeing any of those guys.

i think Joe Kennedy would be solid as a fifth starter for us. His career numbers arent that good, but keep in my mind he was in Coors for a couple years. Also, he pitched in Tampa for a couple of years, so he is familiar with the enviroment of the AL East.
Posted
anyone but maddux, he is just NOT an A.L pitcher, and he is aging quickly. Don't get me wrong he was awesome in his prime but Now, nah.

DM4L, right you are on those prospects. Those are the five or six we must not trade. They all have great futures with the Red Sox and I want it to be for the Red Sox and not some other team.
