Everyone's bashing him, but he's basically the #3 option out of the pen right now.

Did a hell of a job last night after Youks made that error. I don't think it's time to cut bait yet.

Yeah, he aint exactly stinkin up the joint now

His hasn't given up a run for quite a while. Relievers are like this though....between Tavarez, Seanez, Riske, and Foulke we will see them hot and cold throughout the season. Basically you just want to hope they get a crap game out of the way when it doesnt matter.

I think he has more value than Tavarez or Riske. Those guys are flat out bums. Tavarez never seemed like a good fit anyhow.

Riske has been hurt, I think you need to give him a chance too.

Right now, Tavarez looks like the weakest link.

Another scoreless solid inning, Ive been pulling for the guy all year, he continues to pitch better....its funny when you look at all of the postings in this thread....I said it all along, if he can control his fastball....his offspeed pitches are devastating.

In other news....Why is that Bum Tavarez still with the club? Hopefully he goes down with some phantom fingernail injury soon...

rusy isn't all THAT bad. a man named tavarez is worse... but i doubt he goes with that 3 million or so for the next 2 years hes owed

Not completely...Tavarez is still worse. It's not like that was a bad pitch either, Francouer is just swings at a lot of pitches.

Seanez is one of Franconas top choices from the pen. It was a good pitch that was hit, he was unbelievable last month (1.64 ERA), and is having a pretty solid month this month (3.52 ERA). Nothing wrong with going with him in a clutch position, I trust him more than Timlin after last night....Timlin looked a little rusty. He should be worked in non-pressure situations to get his legs under him again.

Tavarez just doesnt fit on this team.....square peg in a round hole.

This thread had been dormant for over 2 weeks now. Rightfully so as Seanez hasn’t pitched since June 30th. Obviously Rudy has fallen out of favor with Tito, and for good reason. With the younger guys like MDC and Hansen getting used more and more in close situations it makes you wonder just what Seanez future is with the Sox.

Riv’s original proposal that started this thread, made way back on May 4th, that Seanez would be cut by July 31st seems very realistic now.

I think he's gone by the end of the month also, or as soon as Theo makes a deal for another arm. The guy is so hittable, he can only be counted on to pitch in games with lopsided scores and no pressure, and that is not reliable.

Well we are alittle over 2 and half weeks until the rosters expand in september so its getting to the point where Rudy could make it through the entire year.

As long as he’s continued to be used on mop up situations only then I’m okay with that. If somehow the Sox can grab a decent reliever off waivers between now and September, and it’s a roster maneuvering situation, then maybe then cutting Seanez might make more sense.

I still don't think hes been all that terrible this year. I mean, hes not a setup man no, but I can actually stomach watching him pitch over Tavarez and some of the other bums.

Before tonights game, he actually had the third best ERA on the team (3.89). Not that bad for someone who gets crucified for, granted the ERA doesnt tell the whole story....but if you look at his overall numbers....they arent exactly awul.

Just a reminder, ERA is a really s***** way to evaluate the effectiveness of a reliever.

KTHX.

it is important, but situations are important too. Seanez is a great mopup guy, but bring him into a close game and BOOM.

Read the rest of my post. Its clearly not just on the basis of ERA, I just found that to be interesting stat.

What other parts of his overall numbers aren't exactly awful? The fact that he's been used like 5 times since the ASB? Think there's a reason for that?

48 hits in 45 innings isnt drop dead awful, he has a 2 to 1 K/BB ratio, and averaging a K/9inn.

All I was saying is that for as bad as he has been crucified, he isnt that awful.

Comparing his WHIP and OBA to others.

Seanez 1.54 .346

MDC 1.47, .344

Hansen 1.50, .355

Tavarez 1.58, .376

So, after comparing more valuable stats, even though this was never my point anyway.....we see that Seanez is actually pretty comparable.

He's a serviceable mopup guy and nothing more. He can't be trusted with the ball in his hand in a big game. That knot in the pit of your stomach when you see him warming up means more than any stat.

He has the worst percentage of allowing inheriting runners to score, and 1st batters to reach. Id say thats awful stats

Yay! We replace one horrible reliever with another horrible reliever. I'd almost take Seanez over Van Buren, and certainly take him over Tavarez.

But whatever.
