Buster Olney just reported on WEEI that Doug has been traded for Josh Bard and Cla Meredith. Doug will be catching Wake tonight.

The Sox are also sending a "player to be named later". This is a steep price to pay, but it shows how desperate the Sox are to fix the Wake situation.

Saw boston.com has the PTNL later. Likely Rudy Seanez I bet. He cannot be traded until a certain date and that is the reason cash is likely included in the deal because both Bard and Meredith make minimum salary and it doesn't make sense we are giving them cash unless Seanez is going back there.

I liked bard, but couldn't be happier to see belli back in town. :D If Theo can also get rid of Seanez in this deal then he has just ascended to another level!

Let's go over this trade.

Josh Bard

Clay Meredith

for

Mark Loretta

Doug Mirabelli

Yes, please. Welcome back Dougie!

Doug ended up where he started. It's really more like Shoppach and Meredith for Loretta. In hindsight, I like it because Pedroia was hurt for a bit, but I would have hated this in the offseason.

oh sweet gentle jesus, thank you god!! this coupled with the fact that the sox are going to sweep the yanks, its turing out to be a great monday.

You're exactly right ORS.

This trade shakes out as follows: Shoppach, Meredith, and cash for Loretta.

I'm not sure I like the deal. I was a big Shoppach fan and Meridith could turn into a solid Bradford-like righty reliever. We need Loretta to start hitting for this deal to be a win for the Red Sox.

This is so awsome, I was so excited when I saw this on Espn news, This isnstanly makes Wakefield better, even though he had a 3.90 ERA, Welcome Home Dougiee, this is also a great move because, he is a class act and a vaulable part to the sox club house. Now if we could trade Mueller for Lowell, Pedro for Clement and Lowe for Wells, it would be like 2004 all over agian, haha

I dont like it, Steve

hey as much as I liked Bard and stood behind him, there's no denying that we got back the best knuckle ball catcher in baseball, heck maybe ever. He's also got that great swing of his, some call him the best backup catcher in baseball.

This is the man Red Sox Nation will give a raucous standing ovation for, #28 our Dougie is back in the Hub :D

EDIT: Why the hell am I not surprised??

Chris Snow, Boston Globe

The Yankees were also trying to acquire Mirabelli.

I wouldn't mind trading gonzo for o-cab, but that's just me:D

I'm with you on that one, too. I was a huge Cabrera fan and I think his offense is better than Gonzo's and his defense is good enough.

His $8 million price tag probably means he'll never come back to Boston though-- they could have had him for $8 mil and chose not to.

Not to mention, he seems to hit well against the Yankees. ;)

The Boston Red Sox have finalized a trade to obtain catcher Doug Mirabelli from the San Diego Padres in exchange for catcher Josh Bard, minor-league pitcher Cla Meredith and $100,000, ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney is reporting.

So no PTNL is in the deal
