I think they'll keep Pedroia in the minors this year...get him some more experience and time to grow. Pedroia could possibly take over for Loretta in the next couple of years, he's not the youngest guy on the field. Obviously, all depends on contracts and whatnot.

Hes a solid defender....that is all....he is not a great player by any means.

No hes a great player to have. I stand by that. When he hits .250 or even .240 Ill stand by that. Having that energy and stability in your defense improves your team ten fold. Great. Don't bother to say that because he has never won a gold glove he isn't a great fielder. That means nothing. A gold glove goes to the best hitter with the best glove, not the guy with the best glove. It has a lot to do with your bat.

Does anyone else get pissed of at jsinger except me? Right now Gonzo is playing like a GREAT player. He will continue this and you'll have to eat the s*** you said about him

i have to agree with jsinger on this one , come on the guy is hitting .196 and a career batting avg of only .244 , he is a good defensive player thats all

I couldn't agree more. Along with his great fielding he's also able to do the little things with the bat. He's good at "small ball" which is going to be important when our offense doesn't produce like it did today.

I would rather have OCabs back, but if my choice is between AGon and Pedroia ... I'll take the proven guy in AGon.

Anyone who bothers to mention batting average this early in the season is wasting their time.

i wouldnt say that he's a lifetime 240 hitter what makes you say he's gonna bust out this year?

He won't bust out with the bat because he has terrible holes in his swing. He will be a vaccum at short and that is it. Anything else he gives you will be a bonus. To be considered a great player you need to hit as well as play defense and Gonzalez just does the latter.

That's all this team needs from him.

I would stick with Gonzo throughout the rest of the year. He's great at short and makes the pitchers more comfortable knowing he's there. (they must have been a nervous wreck with rent there last year). He is a hole in the line-up though that may surprise us every once in a while---but he will also be the "sacrifice bunt" guy when needed.

I still wish we had o-cab ( i am sure i have said it a million times) becuase i think he is as much the defender as gonzo and better at the plate. O-cab seemed to do better in boston---one of those "play better in the pressure situation" guys!

I didn't say anywhere that he is going to bust out with the bat. He is probably gonna hit .250 or .240 I said that earlier, he is great because of what he does to our defense. At a crucial position like shortstop he helps our pitching staff with his range.

jsinger maybe you should relax. Im not saying hes gonna be on the hall of fame ballot or anything, champ. All im saying is that he is a great player to have on our team. He is. I'm not putting him up with Vlad and A-rod and Manny, I am saying he is an excellent defender who brings a lot to the Red Sox.

No ksushi see jsinger thinks a great playersneeds to hit .300 40hr and play gold glove defense. Gonzo is a great player, he's going no where and will continue to contribute to both denfensive and OFFENSIVE sides of the ball.

It's pretty laughable to think he will contribute greatly on offense. He is what he is and thats a great defender who if he is lucky will hit .250 at best.

gonzalez is mark bellhorn of '04, minus 100 walks and minus 50 k's

what about possibly getting a guy like Cesar Izturis, when comes of the DL?

I think that's a wash, personally. I'd just stick with AGonz.

Instead of Bellhorn, why not compare him to Renteria? He'll hit about the same and have 27 less errors. I don't recall anyone clammoring for Pedroia (or Hanley) over Renteria after two weeks of ball.

Gonzalez will give you 10 hr, .245 ba, .290 obp, 5 sb .975 fielding percentage

Izturis will give you 3 hr, .270 ba, .300 obp, 20 sb, .980 fielding percentage

Izturis is an upgrade over Gonzalez. Hes a better 9th hitter than gonzalez as hes kind of like another lead off man. he can get on base better than A-gon and steal more bases. If its possible to get Izturis cheap, id take him over Gonzalez as long as he is healthy.

I don't think anyone said they expect him to contribute greatly to our offense. Its pretty laughable that you keep bringing that up.

The thing you have to consider when thinking of a guy like Izturis is what you would have to give up. I personally am not interested in trading anyone of any skill for a slight upgrade over what we already have. Gonzalez is as good a defender as there is, defense being the priority at short, I see no reason to go out and get a guy who might hit more, possibly giving up prospects to get him. No thanks.
