Well I figured we needed a general Yankee thread to keep track of things.

So far this season we've claimed Koyie Hill off waivers from the Diamondbacks, DFA'd Wil Nieves, got off to a 2-4 start, won 4 straight, and now today we DFA'd Koyie Hill and called up lefty Matt Smith.

Randy Johnson has not walked a batter in 20 innings this season.

(I've been looking for a place to bring this up)

lol yes, very good point.

I found this intresting nugget on rotoworld today:

Johnny Damon said Friday that he would be willing to move to right field if the Yankees acquired Torii Hunter.

The Twins hold a $12 million option on Hunter for 2007, which may be difficult for the small-market team to fit into its budget. To his credit, Hunter declined to comment. Apr. 15 - 10:23 am et

Yeah, I read that a few minutes ago in the paper. That would be interesting, Hunter was my second choice for a Center Fielder this offseason (Behind Ichiro  ). Damon's arm is tooooo weak to be a right fielder, but i'm sure we could live. He would make up for it with his bat. But also, a good idea, I think would be to swap him and Matsui if the Hunter acquisition occured. Left field at Yankee Stadium is huge, and Damon has better wheels than Matsui, and also Matsui's arm is a little bit of an upgrade over Damon's. Matsui also DID play Right Field his first few years with the Yomiuri Giants before shifting over to Center. Probably an unlikely scenario, but it would be interesting. Only thing I wouuldnt like about it is that the likes of Melky Cabrera get blocked even more.

I really cant see the Yanks going after Hunter. The outfield defense hasnt been bad this year. I mean it hasnt been great by any stretch of the imagination but it hasnt been the horrible either.

Right now the defensive problems w/ the Yanks are w/ the right side of the infield even though it looks like Cano is getting better

Offseason as a Free Agent.

EDIT: ...and yes, Cano is getting much better. He's still a work in progress, defensively. But all the work that he's done with Bowa is starting to show.

We have signed not one, but TWO guys that I really like to minor league deals. As I posted in the rumor thread a few days back, the Yankees were interested and expected to sign Carlos Pena, and we have. In addition to Pena, we have also signed former Tampa Bay flamethrowing reliever, Jesus Colome. :D

..and honestly, i'm not gonna lie, but I wasnt even aware they had gotten rid of Colome.

Both will be sent to Tampa for a few games before joining the Clippers.

Pena, as a lefty first baseman, should get almost no playing time for the Yankees. His stock must be at rock bottom if he signed a minor league deal with the Yanks. Colome blows. If a pitcher can't make it with Tampa Bay, he should find a new profession. You can try to use Sturtze as an example, but it doesn't hold water. Sturtze has always been a 5 ERA pitcher. Last year was an exception. He was at 4.74 which still stinks.

If we were to acquire Hunter, I'd be more in favor of Matsui moving to right and Damon to left, considering Matsui can at least reach the infield cutoff man.

I wouldn't go after Hunter though.

ARod typically hitting a HR with the team up 7-2. Very, very clutch.

So, he can only hit HRs when we're losing?

Don't bother answering that question; I know that you people think A-Rod can't do anything right, so don't waste your time or mine.

He's Mr. Clutch. Before his time is up with the Yankees, they will fall to the basement.

This isn't really Yankees news, but it made me laugh

What about Randy

Unless they meant exactly 40 years old(and not older) but then thats really badly executed

Torii Hunter would be an interesting signing for the Yankees. While he is one of the better defensive CFs in the game when healthy, I want to know how his ankle can hold up after a year of stress on it, not just two weeks.

No, that's not what he was saying. Just that his HR's would be a little more wothwhile if they helped the team out a bit more. well atleast thats what my take on it was. but regardless he's hitting HR's.

Yea I'm back woot woot!

On Alex- Meh its a love/hate thing for me.

On Hunter- he is a great CF when healthy like someone said. If Steiny gets him I'll welcome him with open arms.

O/T: Cass wtf, that avi nasty!

Leave my captain alone. Sure he ain't much to look at ,ike your captain, but we can't all be so lucky!

Small pitched a rehab start today; he allowed one infield hit over 4 scoreless innings. He could be back later this month or early May.

Who do we send down when Small comes back? I imagine Matt Smith, the team probably just wanted him to wet his feet a bit and see how he could do against big league hitters. But then, that begs the question, who gets sent down when/if Pavano comes back? Proctor has been strong so far but I don't think there's any one else the team could send down.

Hughes is a flat out stud. From what I hear the Yankees are waiting untill the weather warms up to move him to trenton.

Scott Proctor btw is pitching like a different person. Attacking hitters, getting ahead in counts. Hes given us a chance of late to win games that our starters have struggled in.

He was pretty good for us in '04 though. I'm not looking at stats or anything, but he did a good job, and thats why he's earned Joe's trust.

As for Pena, his choices were the Red Sox, Dodgers, Yankees, and Chiba Lotte Marines. All of whom persued him. He just decided to sign here :D

as for Colome, he has great stuff and hopefully, since he's still young, he can get help down on the farm. Billy Connors should help him out, and then when he gets up to AAA Neil Allen should be a big help as well. This is the signing i'm most excited about. Kid has AMAZING stuff and potential. Looking forward to seeing him in the Bronx in a year or two, hopefully.

Juicer-ambi hits a homer. Freakin cheater.

If he was cheating he would be caught and suspended for 50 games. That has yet to happen to the best of my knowledge. When it does, i'll hapily call him a cheater along with you. He has cheatED (past tense), he is not a cheater currently.

Right, I agree. Damon's speed os better suited for Yankee Stadium's left field than MAtsui's is, and MAtsui has a better arm.

I've read that the Yanks are frontrunners for Zito at the deadline, and they would have to give up Hughes. They might be able to trade for Hunter without trading Hughes.

As for who would get sent down, maybe Villone?
