IF he stays healthy and keep it up he could be pretty good imo the sox should really pay attention to him, and given some time he could devolp some great power like Papi

Could someone please tell Stern that it's ok to play that way in the MLB, and not just in the WBC! A-Roid continued his stellar clutch performance as well! Let's hope it doesn't come down to tiebreakers after south africa! (we better at least be them)!

I think were getting a little to excited about Stern. Hes most likely never going to be better than a 4th OF. Hes kind of like a Luis Matos type of OF.

Dinardo's line against Venezuela--- 2.2 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 0 K, 0 HR

54 pitches, 28 for strikes

Ouch.

Well, it's actually not that bad considering Lenny will be coming out of the 'pen for us (if he makes the team or gets called up) and Venezuela has a sick offense.

How about getting rid of the all-star game(which is stale anyway), cutting out a couple of games during the regular season(Make it a 2 week thing) and have it during the all-star break?

I dont like it personally. I know a lot of people do, but there is absolutely no way MLB goes for this. No way all the owners agree, and no way they can get NPB, KBO, and other leagues to put their league on hold for it. Just wont happen.

A-Roid? What are you getting at?

What are the odds of the sox keeping stern on as the 4th outfielder? I mean we really don't know how Kapler is going to do, and I don't think he would be ready for the start of the season anyway!

Dude, as much as I hate A-Rod, he's not juiced.

Sorry about the confusion. I didn't mean to imply that he's on roids; i see how you could see that but that wasn't the intent and i don't think he is. The a-roid comment from taken from a boston media outlet. I heard them refer to him onetime as a-roid (meaning ot link it to hemroid, not steroid) and have called him that since.

Sorry for the confusion!

Did you catch the pitcher ( I think it was the starter ) for Cuba? Tell me this dude wasn't Jose Contreras's twin brother...

And just out of curiosity...what's to stop some of these Cuban players from just staying in the USA? I'd venture to think that there must be some kind of way of preventing this. Not that I'm against it, I just can't see how the Powers That Be could let it happen. I know the game was in PR, but that's still a territory of the USA. Anyone know the logistics of it?

There is a way of preventing them from leaving. It's called heavy security around them all the time. That is what they have while they are in Puerto Rico and will get if they make it to the next round in the United States.

The Red Sox would be absolutely retarded NOT to keep Stern on the roster for the first couple weeks.

First of all, he needs 17 days of service time at the major league level or else the Sox have to offer him back to the Braves for something like $25,000. After all the effort they spent last season, why not give him the 17 days then send him to AAA if he's not cutting it?

Second, he's putting on a show on a pretty big stage and looks to be AT LEAST a great late inning defensive replacement/pinch runner.

Third, the way the schedule works in April the team can usually get away with carrying one less pitcher.

Adam Stern probably isn't the next Jim Edmonds or anything like that. He's 26 and has yet to really dominate at any level. However, he's absolutely worth keeping (IMO) on the active roster to start the season.

I'd keep Stern on the Big League roster for the minimum amount of time...he showed promise in the WBC game, but has pretty muched sucked the house in any opportunity he's gotten for the Sox. I'm a big fan of ending the Adam Stern Project. We had a thread about this earlier, I'm sick and tired of hearing people paint this guy out to be the second coming of Jesus Christ (not in this forum in particular, but in things I've read and stuff around the League), everyone doubts him and then he puts one good game together in a meaningless tournament and now he's the stud he was supposed to be. If that's the case, Mark Freaking Whitten should be in the Hall of Fame.

After he stays the requirement with the Sox, he can be sent down, right? I know there's all kinds of rules with Rule 5 guys, but I don't think there's anything that makes him unable to play in Pawtucket. The guy has shown someeeee progress, granted he was hurt a lot of last year, but to use up a Big League roster spot for him is ridiculous. And he's only 26, maybe a year or two in Pawtucket could turn him into the guy everyone expected him to be.

Did I read it correctly when I read before that someone said maybe he could develop "Papi-Like Power"?? Can we get some kind of a screening process going before we allow people to post on here? :)

I don't know if anyone else feels the same way, but I find myself cheering more for the Dominican than I do for the U.S. I'd rather have Papi's team win than Roger's, personally. (And Papi just destroyed Venezuala)

I do. The Dominican's look like they're together, dedicated, and having fun. The US team looks conceited and somewhat disinterested.

I like the domican team, i think as a team, they care more about baseball, in my eyes, then America does. When i saw america play, i didn't see a team that wanted to win. Fielding errors and what not. Just doesn't look like the want to win. But when i see DR, i see a team that wants to win.

I wish it wasn't this way, but you are absolutely right. Besides Tek, I haven't come accross one guy (mabey chipper) who really cares about playing in the WBC. I only saw the canada game though, so things could be different! Of course look at the bright side, at least Bonds isn't on the team! Imagine how the USA would look if "the incredible bulk" was DH for us when the book came out!

From what I've heard this isn't the case. I've heard quotes from Timlin, Chipper and Peavy saying that this is the best baseball of their lives and for Timlin and Chipper they said it tops the world series. I think it was just a bad roster assembled by whoever picked it.

What are you talking about? They have all shon a positive attitude towards this thing? What has Tek done to show more interest than anybody else?
