soccer is a sport' date=' a very very boring one.[/quote']

Jacko, make this statement a yr ago, and I would have completely agreed with you. But after living in Europe the last 8 months, watch the UEFA cup and premiere leagues, its actually not boring at all. Yes theres not alot of scoring but the almost goals and hilarious flops are very enetertaining. This could be attributed to me being in a coffeshop smoking Bob Marley weed while watching the games tho.

I was never a huge fan of Soccer, played some when I was a kid, but its actually a pretty good game to watch here.

I'd like soccer more than hockey or basketball if English Premiere League games were shown in the USA, to be honest. I don't think it's boring when you watch it played at a high level. I love watching the World Cup and the Premiere League but the MLS just doesn't cut it. Plus, soccer video games make for a very fun time.

"Belong" They're a protectorate. Guadeloupe IS France. It's equivalent to Hawaii to us.

I understand their own soccer league seeing as how they're 3,000 miles from France, but still. You'd think for a national team, they'd compete under their national heading.

Heckuva game, yesterday. Too bad it wasn't aired. (Univision doesn't count)

The USA won the Gold Cup, with a 2-1 victory over Mexico. Donovan scored on a PK, and Felhaber rocketed a rebounder into the upper left.

They play Argentina within the week, which will be televised. (On the 28th)

I saw it aired. It was on Fox Soccer Channel in English (Channel 269 here in LA) and also on some spanish station.

The Mexicans played dirty. One guy threw an elbow near the end of the game at Onyewu's head.

The PK was an iffy call, but if Ching didn't get taken down, he would have scored it anyway.

Beasley missed a completely empty net from 10 yards out when he kicked it over.

Bocanegra got an early yellow card and played incredible shut down D all game long. He's the MVP of that team.

Guardado played a good game for Mexico. Borgetti got injured in the 1st half.

The USA dominated the second half. Mexico is a bunch of whiners. Castillo took a dive near the end and tried to draw a PK and when he didn't get it, the whole team just gave up.

I didn't watch the game but saw the highlights and canada got f***ED by the refs' date=' that was a goal[/quote']

That was a VERY difficult call to make. I'm a soccer ref, so I can understand it. No professional ref is going to walk over to his sideline and ask the assistant for help on that call. They are too prideful and you'll never see it.

However... the game should have been over before that play even happened. They showed 4 minutes injury time added, and that "goal" was scored around the 95 minute mark.

USA won, as well they should have.

Beckham debuted today.

:dunno:

If Beckham can start a trend where MLS teams go out and get the elite level players in the world, then MLS could take off. In soccer they ultimately determine who the best country and the best club teams are in the world. It would be cool if a team like LA could land a Schevchenko or Henry or someone of that caliber (or younger stars), and create what the true club teams in Europe look like.

Soccer is fun to watch when good players are playing, but it is really fun to watch when you watch the best in the world.

The problem is also attendence, and star power. You are an unknown here, you are a mega-celebrity anywhere else.

How are your soccer teams doing?

Mine:

Liverpool, 5th place in a tight Barclays Premiership, 27 points

Hibernian, 3rd place in a tight Scottish Premier League, 26 points

Not really "my team", considering I lose no sleep if they win or lose and don't, at all, follow them, but I tend to cheer for Arsenal after I grew to like them while playing with them in a soccer video game. I do like soccer... and I'd be a huge fan if I lived across the Atlantic but it's so damn hard to follow the EPL out here. I guess they're doing alright?

By the way... complete non-homer pick... I'm picking Arsenal to win it all. Whatever "it all" is.

I do want their jersey though... go figure.
