Delcarmen and Shoppach for Coco and Bard - would you do it?

Of course, but given that the main part of the deal is Marte for Coco your proposal is nowhere near realistic.

The Guardians wouldnt accept a trade for Coco not involving Marte. Just what I would like to see, if Marte, Shoppach and my boy Manny D are included

Boston- Coco Crisp, David Riske, Adam Miller

Cleveland- Andy Marte, Manny DelCarmen, Kelly Shoppach

Well thats obviously the most ideal trade for us, but the Guardians would never go from Mota to DelCarmen and then swap Bard for one of the best RHP prospects in the game. I think at this point its either CLE accepts whats on the table or call it off, theres absolutely no way we can go from Mota to Delcarmen without upping there side of the bargain, and Theo knows it.

riverside that is alittle more reasonable deal if the Guardians give us one of their top guys. but if not scrap this whole thing and lets move on to either reed, michaels, or matos.

weei is reporting from another website that the deal will go through but Riske will not be involved.

Mota, Shoppach, Marte for Crisp and Bard. :(

how about like when john from medford called in and said he would gladly throw jon lester in the deal instead if manny delcarmen because he saw delcarmen pitch in the majors already. i mean how stupid are these callers that are so called red sox fans.

The deal is in limbo, but it's not dead. The Phillies' plans to trade outfielder Jason Michaels to the Cleveland Guardians for lefthanded relief pitcher Arthur Rhodes were put on hold today, but one source said it still could happen.

The Phillies' trade was contingent on a six-player trade between the Guardians and Boston Red Sox becoming official. The Red Sox would receive outfielder Coco Crisp, reliever David Riske and catcher Josh Bard. The Guardians would get top prospect Andy Marte, catcher Kelly Shoppach and relief pitcher Guillermo Mota. But Mota failed his physical today in Cleveland, which means the Sox will have to try to satisfy the Guardians some other way.

It's believed the Sox will try to make that happen because Mota wasn't the key figure in that trade: Crisp and Marte are the key pieces.

So if the Sox can provide the Guardians with another piece, most likely bullpen help, the Michaels-Rhodes deal could still happen. The Phillies and Guardians have been talking about Michaels for Rhodes for several weeks.

Phillies manager Charlie Manuel said that if the Phillies can acquire a set-up man for closer Tom Gordon, which is what Rhodes would become, then Ryan Madson would move into the rotation, which is what Manuel prefers. Madson prefers it, too.

Michaels, 29, hit .304 with four homers and 31 RBIs and a .399 on-base percentage in 105 games last season for the Phillies. He will make $1.5 million this season. Last week, Michaels was placed on six months probation and ordered to complete 100 hours of community service for fighting a Philadelphia police officer last year.

Rhodes, 36, went 3-1 with a 2.08 ERA in 47 games for the Guardians. He pitched in only four games in the final two months of the season because of an inflamed right knee and spent time on the bereavement list because of a family illness. Rhodes makes $3.7 million, and becomes a free agent after the season.

they want bullpen help--what about Timlin IF they added Riske??

Posted
timlin is better than riske. timlin can handle boston....we have no idea if riske even can

than who in the bullpen would you be willing to give up for this deal to happen?? Only possibilites are Delcarmen, edgar martinez maybe and Timlin. Maybe they'd take Dinardo.

I dont think theres anyway we can include a reliever in this deal unless we get someone who hasn't been talked about in these rumors. Why dont they just keep Riske, and IF anything deal Crisp straight up for Marte.

Should Foulke struggle (which I doubt) but in the event that he does, Timlin has proven hes capable of being hte go-to guy. I view Riske as more of a 7th inning guy (assuming Timlin is in the 8th and Foulke 9th), not as much pressure for him and I think he could be very effective also splitting time with Seanez, Tavarez, etc.

Id like to have seen...

7th inning-- Riske, Seanez

8th inning-- Timlin, Tavarez

9th inning-- Foulke

its still a deep bullpen as long as Mota's failed physical isnt serious

You can't trade timlin, he was an FA this offseason.

I'd be intruiged to see what we come up with for this. Perhaps Arroyo goes? Arroyo has been thought of as a guy who would greatly benefit in a move to the pen. Other than that, I say nay to dealing anymore youth.

when the sox made the beckett deal they should have gave each player a physical before the deal was made. had mota failed his physical right then and there i would have went right back to the marlins and asked for juan pierre which would have ended this entire mess. i would have had no problem with throwing in someone like abe alvarez or a kelly shoppach on top of anibal, hanley, harvey garcia, and jesus delgado if it netted us juan pierre.

i wouldnt mind trading arroyo, but we'd need more than just riske and crisp for him and marte.

Whoa who said anything about Timlin? Yes lets trade our most relief pitcher of last season, IMO the only 05 opening day relief pitcher who was actually productive. He's been a workhorse for Boston and will be again for whats looking like his final season in the majors, 4th with the Red Sox.

Yeah, maybe another low level prospect coming our way, or drop shoppach out and give us Josh Bard, freeing our hands to sweeten a wells trade with good ol' kelly.

edit - someone mention timlin on the 3rd page. bad idea to trade him but beyond that... you can't trade him since he was an FA this year. Gotta wait till june, but it will likely still be a bad idea in june. Thats the bullpen equivalent of trading Tek.

mota, beckett, and lowell never had physicals with boston.....mota was out of the country, beckett never came up from texas and who knows where lowell was. the sox made the deal with medical reports, MRI's, medical charts but no physicals

Apparently, they never gave Marte a physical, either. I wonder if the Guardians gave Marte a physical in light of the elbow rumors.

Where are you getting that information. A baseball team doesn't do million dollar deals that directly affect their teams performance without making sure they aren't getting damaged goods. I'm sorry but you must be wrong.

The Beckett deal involved an extensive review of medical records, but they never actually gave him a physical exam. I don't remember reports about some of the other players, but there were rumors about Marte right after he was acquired, because he apparently had not been given a physical either.
