I'm wondering what it would be like if this mentality had been around in 1920.

"Yeah, that George Herman...has nowhere to go but down! This deal, in reality, hurts the Yankees and helps us in the long run."

I'm wondering how this even remotely compares to the current situation? Ruth was 24 at the time, not 32.

Yeah...this blows. It's not the fact that he's gone, but the fact that just a few months ago, he vowed he would never play for the Yankees. I guess I should start realizing money talks. The bad thing is, we need a shortstop AND a centerfielder...one of which needs to be able to hit leadoff.

And how did you fare with Bellhorn and Embree?.... enough said

In 2005 they quickly wore out their welcome, i can give you the stats if youd like. If you think they were worth not cutting, biggest laugh ive had yet

You yankee fans have never "thrown one of your players under the bus?" Oh cmon

Thats not my point, you completely disregard the fact that they were integral in helping you guys win a championship and you just treated them like dirt the following year. This has nothing to do with them going on to be Yankees or playing s***** or anything, it has to do with the disloyal Red Sox fans. The ones who chased franchise players like Nomar, Clemens, and Pedro out of town.

I know that I speak for most Yankee fans when I say that John Wetteland, Darryl, Justice, Vizcaino, Chad Curtis, etc.. are all still heros in our hearts due to the fact that they helped to bring us a ring.

wow...way to overanalyze there pal

...It was a JOKE

-----------------------------

We hear all of this stuff about him saying he would never play for the Yankees, and im not denying that he said it, but i distinctly remember last offseason him saying that he would be willing to play here when Free Agency comes. Not that it would be his first choice, but he said he would be willing. Just thought I'd remind you all of those thoughts.

No s*** sherlock, hence my mocking faux-emoticon that acknowledges it as a joke. It would sure be nice if you actually read my posts, so I wouldn't have to constantly draw attention to the fact that your assertions are complete garbage.

People that have such negative reactions to jokes should...well, just lighten up.

When you a trying to be a smart-ass, but your attempt at wit fails and you sound like a stupid-ass, then people are going to call you out on it. Get used to it.

Red Sox fans didnt chase Damon, Nomar or Pedro out of town, you are a complete dumbass. First off when Nomar got traded he was no longer the franchise player, also he was traded so he didnt get run out of town. Um Pedro went for the extra year the redsox front office would not give him, I dont think Pedro had beef with Boston fans, in fact he is on record saying, winning 1 world championship in Boston would be better then 3 anywhere eles because of the fans. Also i dont think Redsox fans booed Pedro ever. And Yankees fans cant talk either i beilive you guys booed Jeter when he was in his 0-30 slump a few years back. Thats why people booed Belhorn, its all about the now, Belhorn was striking out 2 times a game and it was just frustrating to watch.

Red Sox fans DID chase Nomar out of town, and the reason he wasnt the franchise player was because of the way he was treated by you guys. The Red Sox showed disrespect to Pedro by not offering him the extra year, and no, you did not chase Damon out, granted, but your Front Office did, "dumbass".

You booed Bellhorn and chased him out of town, but he played a huge role in the franchise for a few years there and its wrong.

Also, granted, some Yankee fans booed Jeter, I however was not one of them and if you payed nay attention at all you would remember that there was a huge conflict among fans who booed Jeter and those who did not. Those who did are *******s. Without this guy we dont get those 4 championships, so as far as im concerned he could have gone 0-50 and I wouldnt have booed him.

I didnt, but you're right, some did. But as long as we didnt chase him out of town ;)

Where do you get this foolishness. Nomar was beloved by the fans like no Red Sox player that I have seen in more than 35 years. Maybe the press had a problem with him at the end. RSN was in a state of shock when he got traded. The press threw him under the bus, but only after he left. They disclosed a lot of locker-room info about Nomar that the fans hadn't known about. The print press in Boston is a vindictive lot, and they have always been that way. Pedro wouldn't play their game and the press poked criticism at him for being a prima donna. They said he had worn out his welcome in Boston. That was not true. When he took the mound the excitement was palpable. No fan wanted to see him go. What the press meant was that he had worn out his welcome with them. The print press killed Rice because he did kiss up and play their game. They are the ones responsible from keeping him from his rightful place in Cooperstown.

Do you know how many Red Sox fans ive heard say they were happy when Nomar got traded because they were getting Cabrera and Mientkiewicz? Its ridiculous. And making a huge deal about getting A-Rod over the winter to replace Nomar probably didnt make him feel too good, because we all know Red Sox Nation was NUTS about that happening. That is mainly what I was reffering to.

Sox fans may have liked the Nomar trade after the fact, because it turned out well. Remember, we did win the Championship, and we choked the Yankees in the ALCS like Luka Brasi in the Godfather. When the trade first went down, there was a state of shock in RSN. And we couldn't believe that we didn't get a pitcher in the deal. Theo was very worried that he would be run out of town for trading an icon. The ARod thing was a big deal, because he is acknowledged to be the biggest talent in the game. No one wanted to see Nomar go, but it was the smart business move. If his ego took a hit, well, too bad. Nomar was giving every indication that he would be leaving as a FA, so the Sox were faced with losing him and getting nothing in return. The fans would have been very happy if he had re-signed for 4/60 million, but he turned it down. What a mistake. He wanted out of Boston long before the ARod thing happened. Ownership gave him a heads up that they would be trying to get ARod and offered Nomar a final chance of taking 4/48 with a an option for a 5th year, but he declined. He wanted to go back West and that became obvious before the ARod thing. Oh, and by the way, where did he end up? He would still get a Standing O at Fenway. He wanted to go home and he has. yes, A-Rod was a big deal and whatnot, but still, considering what Nomar has meant to the Sox I think he deserved better treatment. I dont care if I have a chance to get Honus Wagner, Derek Jeter is not going anywhere, and IMO thats how the Sox and their fans should have felt about Nomar.

Please sign-up for a remedial reading course. The Sox were going to lose Nomar to FA after '04. This was obvious to management and the fans. He never once stated that he wanted to re-sign with the Red Sox, and when he turned down 4/60, it was obvious to everyone that he would walk. The fans never wanted him to go. Getting ARod a year early was better than getting nothing after '04. I hope this was clear, or do I need to use even more monsylabic words.

Jeter and Rodriguez got 10 year deals, Nomar got a 4 year offer. For a guy who was supposed to be on their level, you can somewhat understand why he felt shafted. The Sox didn't show the commitment the Yanks and Rangers showed (trade not withstanding). I think that played a bigger role than the fact it was for 4/60.

Huh? Please follow the thread. Do all Yankee fans need remedial reading? 26 to 6 is accusing Boston Fans of running Nomar out of town. What control would the fans have over the contract offer? Some of us would like to think that we run the team, but we don't. It was obvious that Nomar wanted out of town. He resisted every attempt to be re-signed prior to entering his walk year. 4/60 was a very fair offer. No one was offering ARod or Jeter type deals in 2004. The market had shifted dramatically. Obviously, Nomar's agent seriously misjudged the marketplace. That being said, Red Sox fans were sad to see Nomar leave. Please stop telling us what we think and what we want, and start adding some information to the Board.

You might need to use some more monsylabic words for me :)

You must be stupid if you think Nomar wanted out. Nomar wouldnt have left, at least not before everything played out the way it did with the whole A-Rod situation. Fact of the matter is im sure that the Sox fans going bananas over the possible trade for A-Rod and just throwing Nomar to the curb had to have effected him somewhat emotionally, he's human of coarse. That, plus the treatment he was getting from the organization led to him wanting to leave town.

Nomar should have just pulled a Teddy Ballgame and spit in the face of the Sox fans who he had served as a player for so long who wanted him out. At least Roger took a stand and didnt hide his feelings towards management after he was given the boot.

Oh, okay. You're right. It was a conspiracy between the front office and the fans to run Nomar out of town. We wanted Ted Williams gone and Yaz too. You must be right. Organizations just love to get rid of icons that are big draws and good business. And the fans who gave him the biggest ovations of anyone on the team every single night, they clearly wanted him gone. You know how Nomar was offended by the fans and the front office, and you know when he made his decision to leave, and you know exactly how the fans felt about Nomar. You must be right. So, let's move on, and please start adding some interesting information to this Board or go torture some Met fans. Your baseless conjecture and illogical theories are boring and tiresome. Oooops, I forgot. I promised to use monosylabic words.

BTW Speaking of organizational mistreatment, let's not forget that Babe Ruth, the biggest sports icon of all and an American hero, who helped save the legitimacy of the game after the Black Sox scandal was released by the Yankees, who never offered him any meaningful position after retirement. That's class. That's gratitude.

It looks like our fall back plan involves trades for Reed and Glaus, and signing Millwood.

Lineup Would be...

1 Reed (CF)

2 Loretta (2B)

3 Ortiz (DH)

4 Manny (LF)

5 Glaus (1B)

6 Varitek ©

7 Nixon (RF)

8 Lowell/Youkilis (3B)

9 ??? (SS)

Pitching

1 Schilling

2 Beckett

3 Millwood

4 Wakefield

5 Arroyo/Clement/Papelbon

That's assuming Wells is traded and either Clement or Arroyo gets traded.

you're absolutely right about Babe Ruth. Rupurt f'd that one up. But the Yankees organization since then has on many occasions recognized they were wrong in doing so and Ruth and the organization reconciled before Ruth died. But way to go bringing up something that happened back in 1935.

And when did i say that there was a conspiracy to get Williams and Yaz out??
