Yanks sign Damon for centerfield

Johnny Damon and the Yankees have agreed to a four-year, $52 million deal, Newsday has learned.

Damon, who played the last four season with the Boston Red Sox, will replace Yankees veteran Bernie Williams in centerfield. He also gives the Yankees a natural leadoff hitter and allows Derek Jeter to hit in the No. 2 spot.

The left-handed hitting Damon turned down the salary arbitration offer from the Red Sox earlier in the day, thus freeing him to negotiate with any team, including the Red Sox.

Damon hit .316 with 10 home runs and 75 RBIs last season and stole 18 bases.

What a douche. Johnny thanks for the WS but you are a fake, and a turd. I hope your career takes a Bernie Williams like drop off this year.

In the past few years Johnny has gone a long way to prove how stupid he is. This is the exclamation point.

And thus... the downward spiral of the Red Sox 2006 off-season continues...

What started with a spark is a mere flicker of hope for a long season ahead of us. :/

ya i didnt think id lose that much respect for him if he signed with another team, but im kinda pissed at the way he handle this

It makes you really appreciate Tom Brady.

That being said I'm happy we didn't sign him for 4 years.

Good riddance you f***er. There really is a huge difference between 11/year (4 yrs 44 by Boston) and 13/yr (4 yrs 52 from NY). For someone who was a fan favorite for his years here (never gained my respect though, I prefer players who shut the f*** up, personally), you really betrayed your fans. Enjoy that extra two million per year, we'll take Reed or Crisp, thanks guy. I cannot wait to boo your ass in Fenway next year.

This is great, eveyone is going crazy, it's hard to blame Damon for his decision, but we certainly have a lot of question marks on the team now.

Who will play centerfield?

Is Beckett's bad MRI's going to haunt the Red Sox all year?

No Myers? No Bradford? Foulke to close again?

Schilling completely healthy for 2006 season?

Is Alex Gonzalez or whoever gets stuck in there really enough for SS?

Manny still going to be Manny?

it just goes on and on....

Don't blame Damon, blame ownership.
