Now you probably wondering why there's a sad face on the side of this post. Well, to be honest, I hate this trade. I really don't want the Red Sox to do it. Since when is CoCo Crisp that good?

Mota is going to be a huge part of our Bullpen, and if we're going to trade Marte, we better damn sure get someone better than CoCo out of the deal.

Hate it, don't want the Sox to do it. Just re-sign Damon already.

This trade makes me absolutely sick. Why are we exploring this when we can get Jeremey Reed, who has more potential and is younger and cheaper than Crisp, for ARROYO. I think the Sox front office would be out of their minds to do this trade. KEEP MARTE!

There is no way in hell they should turn around and trade Marte and Mota for Crisp. That is too much to give up. Trading Arroyo or Clement for Crisp is ok but not our newly aquired top prospect and one of our top relievers.

I'm also reading the Sox may have picked up interest in Lugo again....STOP! Devil Rays want too much and he is 30 AND he isn't that good. I'm hearing some really bad rumors lately.

No! NOOOOOOOOO!

This trade better not happen. Mota will indeed be a big part of our 'pen, but I'm personally very excited about Andy Marte's future here, and we cannot let that be rid of because of Coco Crisp, who isn't all that good.

If we could get more than Crisp I would be happy. I would love to figure something out with Jhonny Peralta. That guy is an awesome player and will be an elite SS. I'd still be nervous about giving up Marte. In the end he could be a 40+ HR hitter for us; not to mention strong defensive skills.

Yeah I was very perplexed at this. Mota was reportedly the clincher in a trade for Beckett. And Marte was the main acquisition in the Edgar trade. But both of them could be dealt without ever wearing a Sox jersey? Something just doesnt smell right.

this trade is ridiculous. No way in hell would the Sox be stupid enough to give away marte for an average CF. Jeremy Reed has more potential and is reportedly easier to get. I like Coco Crisp, but not willing to give up marte for him. If we can give them Arroyo straight up for Crisp, then id make that deal. But i dont no why this is even being talked about. Your setup man and your best prospect for an average CF...AWFUL

Well first i just want to say that i think he has the coolest name ever.

okay,

I don't like this trade at all!! I don't think it would turn out to good.

I will piss myself in laughter if the Red Sox trade Andy Marte, one of the best prospects in baseball, and Mota, when healthy one of the best relievers in baseball for Coco Crisp. Dont get me wrong, but I dont think you can trade that much for Coco based on just one year.

i have a bad feeling this deal might happen. The clement for reed deal is probaly dead because of the mariners signing of Washburn. I hope someone in the front office realizes how awful this move is, before its to late.

Boston.com

In another Sox-related development, the Lawrence Eagle Tribune's Rob Bradford reported Friday that, according to two unidentified major league front-office sources, the Red Sox on Thursday night appeared "primed" to deal newly acquired prospect Andy Marte and reliever Guillermo Mota to the Guardians in exchange for outfielder Coco Crisp.

However, Bradford went on to write that the potential deal is reportedly contingent on whether the Guardians sign Nomar Garciaparra, who is thought to be pondering offers from four teams: the Guardians, Yankees, Dodgers, and Astros.

The Boston Globe also reported today that the Red Sox talked to the Guardians about the 26-year-old Crisp (he hit .300 with 16 homers, 69 RBIs, and 15 stolen bases in 2005), and that the Guardians asked for Bronson Arroyo in return.

The question that begs to be asked here is why the Red Sox would make this move with Johnny Damon still thought to be considering a return to center field for the Red Sox?

If they could make the deal for Clement or Arroyo, fine thats a good move. But Marte and Mota are going to be very important this year and Marte has All-Star potential in the future.

Id rather Nomar go to the yankees than this to happen

i agree with you there. The Devil Rays front office acts like they are an elite team or just their mindset is like the easy mode in MLB 06 ;). I mean cmon they refused a trade straight up of Lugo for Marte. And according to Ken Rosenthal, they also did this...

The Tigers tried to acquire Devil Rays closer Danys Baez before signing free-agent closer Todd Jones to a two-year, $11 million contract. The Rays asked for two top prospects — right-hander Joel Zumaya and center fielder Curtis Granderson — and a third minor leaguer. The Tigers would have been more comfortable trading players like center fielder Nook Logan and Double-A right-hander Humberto Sanchez. ...

These are all contingent on Damon, if he signs elsewhereand all. We had the Reed deal in place, but they signed Washburn, so now we have the Crisp deal in place. However, either the Eagle Tribune is on crack, or the Arroyo-Crisp deal is more correct. It would be a long way to fall from Ramirez, Sanchez for Beckett, Lowell, and Mota to Marte, Mota for Coco. They have got to be smarter than this.

I've read in several places that the Crisp deal was for Clement/Arroyo not Marte and Mota. I've also read that it was contingent upon Nomar coming to the Tribe. Since Nomar isn't likely to be headed to Cleveland, I don't think Crisp is still on the trading blocks.

Seattle Times is saying the Mariners might throw in Gil Meche along with Reed in a trade for Clement.

And the Herald says nothing about Marte going to the Guardians, just maybe Arroyo and Mota.

Coco Crisp: Close to Going to Boston

RotoWire.com Staff - RotoWire.com

Saturday, December 17, 2005

Update: Crisp is close to being dealt to Boston, the Lawrence Eagle-Tribune reports.

Recommendation: Cleveland would receive Guillermo Mota and Andy Marte for giving up Crisp. The deal is apparently contingent on the Tribe landing Nomar Garciaparra to play right field, although it could be done either way. This is pure speculation at this point, but we'll keep you posted

Bronson Arroyo: Could be Traded to Mariners

RotoWire.com Staff - RotoWire.com

Saturday, December 17, 2005

Update: Arroyo could be traded to the Mariners for Jeremy Reed if the Red Sox do not re-sign Johnny Damon, the Seattle Post-Intelligencer reports.

Recommendation: The Mariners had originally inquired about Matt Clement, but with their signing of Jarrod Washburn apparently imminent, the team can now only afford Arroyo. Either way, giving up on Reed after 500 at-bats, seems premature. Arroyo saw his K/9 drop by nearly three last season. Reed would fit well defensively in Fenway Park

This is kinda weird, getting a CF and a LF, what does this mean for Damon, Manny, and Trot, if all these guys start, only one of them is going to be back in 2006

The Eagle-Tribune story was the reason this thread was created. Media outlets closer to the team, the Boston Globe and Boston Herald, include Arroyo as part of the trade, but neither include Marte.

Boston Globe

The Boston Globe reported Friday that the Red Sox have talked with the Guardians about the switch-hitting Crisp, and that the Guardians would like Bronson Arroyo in return.

Boston Herald per RotoWorld

The Red Sox are having ongoing discussions with the Guardians about Coco Crisp, with the price tag expected to be either Bronson Arroyo or Matt Clement, according to the Boston Herald.

Since Arroyo is mentioned in both the deal for Crisp and the deal for Reed, I doubt the Sox will be acquiring both, especially since it would require the Sox to deal two starters when there are legitimate injury concerns in the rotation. However, if they did somehow get both, I think you'd see Crisp in Fenway's huge RF, Reed in CF, and whoever remains of Manny/Nixon in LF.

I feel much better about this trade now. Crisp is a good player, and as long as we don't have to trade Marte AND Mota I have no problems with him as a replacement for Johnny. Clement for Crisp would save us so much money over the next few years.

Yeah I'll take Arroyo over Clement. I'm nervous Clement will never be the same after getting beamed, falling apart in the 2nd half, and having surgery. Deffinitly keep Arroyo who is still a familiar face and actually a Red Sox veteran. Its amazing that he has been around this team longer than most guys.

I've never heard the Red Sox make this bad of a move where they trade Marte and Mota for Crisp. I also don't see them making the trade for Crisp and Reed. Both are backup options of Damon is gone and to be honest....I might welcome a trade of Clement or Arroyo for Crisp since the guy is young, fast, good defense, some power, steals bases, and is a switch hitter....all of a sudden he appears to be a nice option to lead off for the Red Sox.
