Crazy question. Wouldn't a package of Lester and Pappelbon be better than any offer anyone would give Baltimore? At first thought I'd think thats giving up too much on our end, but if Manny changed him mind about wanting to be traded in order to play with Tejada and Ortiz and really be apart of something special here I think I would do it. An article in tomorrow mornings herald makes it seem like the Orioles are strongly considering honoring Tejadas request(http://redsox.bostonherald.com/redSox/view.bg?articleid=116410), and i don't see them getting a better offer than this. This would leave us enough money to sign Encarnacion for center, or trade wells and sign Johnny.

Mark Loretta-2b

Kevin Youkilis-1b

David Ortiz-DH

Manny Ramirez-LF

Miguel Tejada-SS

Jason Varitek-C

Encarnacion/Damon-CF (Move damon to lead off and Youk Down here if we keep Johnny

Trot Nixon-RF

Lowell/Marte-3b

although that would be more than enough to get it done i would never do it.

don't get me wrong, manny, ortiz, tejada is an amazing 1-2-3, one of the greatest all time if it were to ever happen. BUT, as we all know, pitching wins championships.. ask the yankees who have jeter, a-rod, sheffield, giambi and matsui in their lineup.

The source indicated the Orioles would need the Sox to throw in a starter or reliever before the deal could be considered more seriously

LMAO who do they think they are getting...Luis Gonzalez, this is Manny FUCIKING Ramirez. One of the best hitters in the game today and one of the best in quite awhile. Thats insane.

According to the Boston Globe, the Sox have put forward an offer to Baltimore of a Ramirez for Tejada swap. The O's didnt give comment, and it is known of course that Boston isnt the only interested team.

Ramirez offered for Tejada

Boston looks to deal with Orioles

By Chris Snow and Gordon Edes, Globe Staff | December 10, 2005

One day after the Red Sox traded a former All-Star shortstop, Edgar Renteria, the club offered Manny Ramírez to the Baltimore Orioles for Miguel Tejada, arguably baseball's most dynamic shortstop, according to industry sources. As of late last night, the Orioles had been contacted about Tejada by five to eight teams, including Boston, but weren't ready to take the Sox' offer to owner Peter Angelos, according to an Orioles source. It's uncertain whether Angelos would want Ramírez.

Baltimore, while fielding several offers, still holds out hope that it can talk Tejada, a world-class player in his prime, into remaining with the club. Tejada, unsettled by Baltimore finishing 21 games behind the Yankees and Sox last season and, in his mind, doing little to change the team's losing culture, told the Associated Press in the Dominican Republic Thursday that he would like to be moved, just two seasons into a six-year, $72 million deal.

Tejada's agent, Diego Bentz, declined to comment yesterday, saying the situation was too delicate. He refused to speculate as to whether Tejada has spoken with Sox designated hitter David Ortiz, though he did acknowledge the two are best friends and have known each other since their youth in the Dominican. Still, the offers Baltimore has received around baseball don't figure to be final offers, meaning a deal with any team figures to take time. It's not ideal to swap star players within the division, given the 19 times the teams play each season, but Ramírez's offensive production -- equal to or better than Tejada's -- could offset that concern. However, there's a considerable difference in the players' defensive abilities.

But, the same reason Tejada cited for leaving could be a deal-breaker for Ramírez, who, given his veteran status, has the right to veto any deal. While it's unknown whether he would raise an objection to a trade to Baltimore, the fact that the Orioles aren't expected to contend stands to decrease the likelihood that Ramírez would sign off on a deal.

Likewise. This trade is of course not even close to a 100% definite. Its worth dreaming about.

Sox trade of Manny for Tejada get in return: A big bat behind Ortiz, rid headaches of Manny being Manny, and acquire one of the best shortstops of today's baseball.

I can't believe how unrealistic you guys are. You all have no idea what you are talking about. This is the most rediculous thread ever created. Wake up and come back to earth.....(just being sarcastic)

I would never trade Papelbon and Lester...actually I wouldn't trade either period...they are going to be a top 1-2 combo for our starting rotation in the end. I would deffinitly throw in Arroyo with Manny to get the deal done. I would even add Matt Clement if the Red Sox thought they could get a good replacement in the starting rotation for him. Suddenly this whole thing we were talking about (Manny for Tejada) makes sense to the Red Sox organization. Guess we were on the right track...go figure

Just wanted to mention also that the New York Times is great. They say the Orioles aren't interested in trading a marquee player for a guy Boston is trying to unload. Well if Tejada is serious...wouldn't Baltimore be doing the same thing?? Are they also implying that Manny Ramirez is not one of our marquee players?? Idiots!

This isn't going to happen for one simple reason the Sox are not stupid and know what can happen when u face Manny therfore they are going to try and trade him as far away as possible. He won't go to a team in the A.L East.

Kinda like Baltimore knowing what Tejada can do when he faces them. It works both ways. Except we have a better all around team than the Orioles.

Then why would the sox even talk with the O's?

I agree with that. The Red Sox mentioned they want to get Marte's bat in the lineup. He is ready to contibute and really doesn't need a lot of time (if any) in the minors. He could knock 20+ HRs his first full season.

i really think the only team with a chance at Tejada is the Cubs.

Cubs Interest In Tejada Confirmed

A couple of different sources are confirming the Cubs' interest in Miguel Tejada.

According to an emailer, David Kaplan of WGN Radio spoke with two sources close to Miguel Tejada. The sources told Kaplan early Friday that Tejada would love to play for the Cubs and would welcome a trade. The Tribune Company owns both WGN and the Cubs.

Several other emailers mentioned a Bruce Levine report on ESPN Radio 1000. According to Levine, there is major interest in Tejada by the Cubs and Jim Hendry has had talks with the Orioles front office already. John Stockstill is currently the Orioles' director of pro scouting, and formerly had the same role with the Cubs. Interestingly, that same Baltimore Sun article from December 7th has a headline called "Tejada Energized" and mentions that Tejada is "excited" about the 2006 season.

The two teams worked amicably on a blockbuster trade last winter, when the Cubs sent Sammy Sosa to the Orioles for Jerry Hairston and some prospects. In my opinion, Felix Pie and Rich Hill would both have to be a component of any deal.

I don't think the veto's will become an issue, since Manny wants out sooo badly.
Does Manny really want to rot in Baltimore, if he vetos it with his 10-5 I say we just keep him. What the hell is the Union going to do? Say we didn't try to trade him hard enough?

EDIT: If Tejada wants out and has a Veto why would he EVER want to go to the Cubs?

The writing is on the wall...he wants to go to Boston. Its no coincidence that hours later from the Renteria trade, Tejada says he wants to go to a competitive east coast team. Not to mention he is good friends with Ortiz. I have a feeling if Baltimore doesn't figure out a way to deal him to us then he will drop his trade demand.

O's Hope to Retain Unhappy Tejada

Team, Slugger Talk; Red Sox' Ramirez 'Absolutely' Endorses Notion of a Trade

Disgruntled Baltimore Orioles shortstop Miguel Tejada, in his first conversation with a team official since he said he wanted to be traded, did not back off from that demand, a team source said. There appears to be hope for the Orioles that they can retain their best player, though, as the conversation was characterized as "productive" by the source.

The team plans to stay in touch with Tejada with the intent of changing his mind. But in case the Orioles are not be able to persuade Tejada to stay, they are already taking phone calls from other teams interested in trading for the former MVP.

At the very least the phone call, which took place after Tejada participated in a charity softball tournament in the Dominican Republic, allowed the shortstop to voice his concerns about the team. Tejada told the Orioles he made his trade demand to a reporter in the Dominican on Thursday because he wants to play for a winning organization. It remains to be seen whether Tejada is convinced the Orioles can be that winning team. Diego Bentz, one of Tejada's agents, did not return a phone call.

The Orioles had been trying to get in touch with Tejada since Friday morning, the same day his representatives first expressed to the team the shortstop's wishes to be traded.

If the Orioles decide to trade Tejada there certainly would be much interest, particularly from the Boston Red Sox, who seem eager to acquire the shortstop. A large obstacle to a trade with the Red Sox was removed on yesterday when a source close to outfielder Manny Ramirez said he would "absolutely" accept a trade to Baltimore.

Ramirez's willingness makes it more likely the teams can make a deal. Obviously, there are other issues involved, such as whether Baltimore would want to trade Tejada to a team in its division, and how much money the Red Sox would offer. One Baltimore official said the team would want a considerable amount of money from Boston to offset the difference in annual salaries, and another player, possibly pitcher Bronson Arroyo.

The most important issue is whether the Orioles will trade Tejada at all. If so, it seems they won't have trouble finding a trading partner. Numerous radio reports in Chicago said the Cubs would be willing to put together a package. It seems reasonable to think the Cubs would have to offer either starter Kerry Wood or starter Mark Prior plus prospects.

One Orioles official believed the Los Angeles Angels could be a good match since they could offer shortstop Orlando Cabrera, first base prospect Casey Kotchman, and pitching prospect Ervin Santana. It appears the Angels are interested. The New York Mets are rumored to be involved. However, the Orioles say they have had only initial conversations with teams.

Baltimore officials are puzzled as to why Tejada would make such a demand.

"I was saddened and disappointed," owner Peter Angelos said on Friday. "I always believed he was quite happy in Baltimore."

Angelos believes the congressional investigation of Rafael Palmeiro, in which Tejada was called to testify, may be playing a part. In a report of that investigation released by the House Government Reform Committee, two players said they had injected Tejada with vitamin B-12 at least 35 times each.

"Maybe there's something to that," Angelos said. "He's a very proud man. He's a classy type of player and he was probably hurt how that was disclosed."

Regardless, it remains to be seen how Tejada will be received by fans and teammates if he's not traded and whether the shortstop will sulk if he stays. In a conversation on Friday, Orioles third baseman Melvin Mora said Tejada promised he wouldn't.

"Believe it or not," Mora said on Friday, "if they don't trade Tejada, he's still going to play hard."

How was Manny's opinion on bein traded to BAL an issue? He already said he'll go wherever. If that was what was holding it back, then i wonder what's left, what date to do it?

He refused a trade to Philadelphia, I don't remember him saying he would go wherever. He seems to have a preference to the West Coast.

I don't think he vetoed that one because we weren't even close to getting that one done, and also Philly wasn't really into him at all. Also he prefered the West Coast at first but since no one wants him there he said he'llll accept a trade anywhere. If I can find a quote I'll post it.

The Winter Meetings came and went, along with the ice that somehow descended upon usually balmy Dallas. It was cold outside and only occasionally hot inside the Wyndham Anatole, where deals were made but plenty was left undone.

In this age of cell phones, high-speed wi-fi and people walking around talking to themselves while an unsettling blue light beeps above their ear, it's not surprising that teams wouldn't insist that they get all their business done within a four-day window.

That's why there's still plenty to talk about and expect over the next few weeks and months as rosters continue to shape and reshape themselves.

This week's Look Ahead gives you a top-five list of things to look for in the aftermath of Dallas as baseball's Hot Stove season continues into the holidays:

1. Manny, meet Miggy; Miggy, Manny: Manny Ramirez and Miguel Tejada have a lot in common. Both are Dominican-born. Both are great right-handed hitters and among the best run producers in baseball. Both play in the American League East. And now, both officially don't want to play for their teams anymore.

Everyone knew that this was how Manny felt, or said he felt, but Tejada's harsh quotes about Baltimore's lack of activity -- maybe Tejada was busy watching "Lost" reruns when the reports broke that the Orioles signed catcher Ramon Hernandez, one of Tejada's best friends -- to a Dominican Associated Press reporter were unmistakable. Miggy wants out of Baltimore and he wants out now.

This looks like a gift for the Red Sox, who just sent their shortstop, Edgar Renteria, to the Braves for prospect Andy Marte. The Sox could ship Ramirez and his $57 million over three years to the O's and get a great shortstop -- and his $48 million over four years -- in return.

And both teams could revel in the fact that once again, neither player is going to do anything for the Yankees except try to beat them.

Encarnation has only had 1 great year and that was last year, besides the fact that he doesn't even play LF, a better, cheaper alternative would be (I know no one here has heard of him) Rondell White, he can give you .290, 20 HRs, 70 RBIs, with above average defense.

he played for the Yanks so some people have heard of him, also I agree he is much betetr than Encarnacion stat and consistentcy wise, and if anything I agree about going after him instead.

While I agree that Encarnacion isn't my choice for LF if Manny isn't pissing in the Monster next year, I'd rather see Marte be given a shot in LF than brining in White who sees action in an average of 100 games per year in a 13 year career.

Agreed the Sox Front Office talking about Marte, really sounded excited to get him on the 2006 roster, even slot him in the outfield if they have to.

that would be horribly the salaries wouldnt match annd there goes our pitching staff for now and the future plus manny would still find a way down the road to be an ass plus sending our future ace's in the division is stupid manny tejada is ok because it would be bat for bat and both want out

Seriously...Rondell f***ing White isn't new to anyone. Well, maybe some people, but a lot of people know who he is. Take a seat.

Also, that Soriano deal went nicely, right?

Ah shut the hell up, I was just tired of me mentioning names and people never even heard of them, Hector Carrsoco was one of them.
