Because it's February would be my guess. Spring training right around the corner, there will be plenty to discuss very shortly.

I guess I could buy that, but there are plenty of limbs we can go out on with things that may actually happen. To me this is totally a non story, and there's nothing to discuss.

He can play in the WBC, take a month off (April) then resign with the Stros after May 1. He should get about 5 or 6 less starts that way and may be a bit healthier come crunch time in September.

If 3/5 people in our rotation are over 40 ............. how can we be rebuilding?

1 year deal, champ. This doesn't in anyway go against the clubs philosophy like people say it does. Age is a problem if you're locked in, like the yankees, but the sox aren't giving the guy a two year deal, or a yankee-esque five year deal or something. It isn't a big deal. We've got 4 or 5 pitchers at or under the age of 25 within our farm system, signing a quality pitcher who happens to be older isn't a big deal if its for a year. We're not locked into this guy. (if we do sign him)

bb,

he ran out of gas late in the year when the wear and tear got to him. 5-6 starts fewer may still not be enough time off to have some juice left when it really counts. maybe the May start will work for the stros.

Nice cat, does it spiral?

He definitely ran out of gas at the end last year. The WBC tune up with a month break though might be just enough to get him through the Summer, not sure about the Fall.

Cat is to fat to spiral anymore

That will be the issue - the Fall is when ity counts. It's ok to get there but not be able to finish is the killer.

a few pushups will tighten that cat right up.....

why are you talking about a cat? i thought this was a baseball forum... and people tell me im off topic because i talk about papelbon in a coco crisp thread.

It is a pretty funny picture, you have to admit. I think it is worth a few off-topic posts. :)

1 year is a big difference when your gonna offer 20mil,wich is what i heard they were gonna offer him.But pedro and johnny wanted to much, but yet your gonna offer 20 mil to a guy who could be done on every pitch,it dont matter if its a year or not 20 mil is way to much

i hate roger clemens. i hope he goes back to new york where he can retire a miserable lonely ass hole with no fans. derek lowe won more big playoff games than that piece of crap.

I havent heard of an official offer as yet. For now that is speculation by sports writers.

An incentive laden one-season contract I would be approving of. Somewhere around guaranteed $10-12 million, bonuses can be paid if hes able to pitch a certain ammount of starts & not land on the DL.

If he comes here and starts winning games (and he would) then you guys will be eating your words. I don't care what happened in the past because to be honest...we were the ass holes not Roger Clemens. It was the Red Sox that screwed everything up and Clemens was the victim. It would be a truely amazing story to a final chapter in a amazing career as one of the greatest pitchers of all time.

As an update...Lucchino, Henry, Epstein, and Hendrickson are all very silent on the situation which usually means a good thing.

To boot, according to the Boston Globe, Lucchino & Henry are said to be in Houston to meet with Roger. The agent keeps talking about Boston, most sports agents dont talk about a team they dont think have a chance of siging their clients.

EDIT: Hendricks had been talking about Boston, but at "schillingisthenatural" has pointed out, he has since been quiet with the "no comment" routine. Like the Crisp trade we're finally seeing the Sox FO actually able to try and stop any leaks.

i will never eat those words. he took his big contract and sat on it. his last two years in boston were a joke and it was all on him. out of shape. on the dl. what was he like .500 his last two seasons. then he was asking for way too much for a .500 pitcher which is what he would have stayed had he not left boston. he couldnt stay motivated until somebody said he sucked. then he stuck it to us by actually getting in shape and pitching like he should have the whole time. i dont care if he wins 30 games next year he is still a gutless punk.

If he comes here and starts winning I'll still hate the guy. I don't understand it. So all this apparent hatred from our end was just a facade? Kind of like the yankees and Johnny Damon. You hate him until he starts to play for you? What kind of crap is that.

I hope to hell Clemens retires and doesn't come to Boston.
