Why would he be in a yankee's hat? I think its obvious what hat he will wear, he spent 5 years with the Yankees with only one successful season really. His overall statistics in New York were mediocre at best. He will more likely go in as an astro if he doesn't go in as a Sox.

He will go in as a Sox, and I don't think Rocket is going to retire, if I had to bet on it, I would bet he would play in Houston again, but if he gets blown away he could play in Boston or Texas.

People always talk about Clemens hating the Sox...he hated the Sox administration at the time of his departure, not the team as a whole. He never had a problem with the fans in Boston, he was just mistreated by Duquette and Co....Part of my would love to see Clemens come back to Beantown...that's the part of me that watches the Sox during the regular season. There's a big other part of me that doesn't want him back, that's the part that roots for the Sox in the postseason...dude's argueably the most dominant regular season pitcher of our time, but can't really do big games. I don't know, I wouldn't throw all the money at him that he's going to command. And I don't think his influence on the younger guys is invaluable like some people say...they do, after all, have Schill and Boomer to learn from...

Clemens stated many times he wants to go in as a Yankee. Whether or not he still feels that way after pitching two years in Houston, I dont know. If he doesnt feel that way anymore, then the hell with him.

Yeah, they can learn how to be media whores from Schilling and learn how to be party animals from Boomer. Great influences.

I know. It's really their fault that their entertaining and reporters always want a sound byte from them. Too bad their not boring f***s like Arod ... then we could really respect them.

Schilling isn't always PC and says what he thinks, regardless of it's repercussions...and Wells likes to have a good time and is a dominant big game pitcher...It's cool to be on a team where the owner doesn't have every player by the balls and restrict what they can and can't do and say. You're right, I'd say they are pretty good influences.

Oh, and BTW...Big Bud Selig and the Commissioners office decide what hat a player wears into the Hall, the player has no say in it at all. They made that rule after Wade Boggs wanted to go in as a DRay...I wonder if Margo is going to go to the ceremony?

The reason I didn't mention the Yankees is because from what I read, and what I personally think will happen, is that if the Yankees make the winning bid and all things indicate Roger pitching in New York, the Sox will outbid them and they will cater to Roger's ego that much more to prevent him from going there.

I suppose he could go to new york, but I just think its the Sox's job to make sure he doesn't.

Yeah, he said that when he played for the YANKEES.

He's not going to say in front of the media & fans at yankee stadium, "I want to go in the hall as a red sox."

Thought I would bring up the buzz on this one again....

Roger Clemens met with the Red Sox front office for an hour at Texas. He talked to the media and even mentioned the Red Sox. It was mostly the same stuff he had been saying all along but it was still interesting that he talked about it.

No kidding. And for you, I will provide the same answer I provided with everybody else who said that. If he didnt feel it, he wouldnt have said it. a) He initially wasnt asked if he had a preference as to which cap he wore, he stated it on his own. After that the questions came. and b)had someone asked him that initially, he could have just said something like "that's irrelevent, the choice is not up to me. He wouldnt say it if he doesnt mean it. Now, to my knowledge, he hasnt stated, since leaving the Yankees, that he wants to go into the Hall as a Yankee, but that doesnt mean anything because there has been no need to bring it up. He has however had no problem sharing with others that he still has strong feelings towards the organization and all of the people in it, and never has anything negative to say.

I believe that his words were genuine when he said that.

...and yes, I realize i'm late with this. This is the first i'm seeing this post

I heard on the radio, they were interviewing (John) Henry. and he said that clemens will certainily retire his number here. it would seem welrd to have a traitor on one of our numbers:dunno: . unless he comes back:D
Posted
Traitor? He didn't go straight from Boston to New York. He stopped in Toronto. I loved beating up on Clemens with the bats when we played him, but I still don't necessarily believe that he is a "traitor."

true, but he started out as a red sox then went to the jays but he chose to go to the yanks. he started in boston then all of a sudden we relieze he is going to the yanks. it's like me going to the entende forces then going independant then all of sudden i am in the central power.

I know this is an old quote but nobody has responded to it with a real answer. It doesn't matter what Roger wants to go in the hall as. The hall of fame changed it so that the player no longer choses. One of the reasons people think this happend was of a rumor George put in Clemens' contract saying he would go into the hall as a yankee.

As far as him coming back to baseball, I think it happens, assuming he feels he can still compete. I think the shortened season will help him because he seemed to ware down at the end of last year. I also think it will be either for the Yankees or Red Sox. Texas and Houston will not be in contention this year. Why would he come back to pitch for a loser, and why would a loser pay such a price for one year of a pitcher when they aren't going to make the playoffs?

We told him we didn't want him... I would feel alittle sore about it too.

Right, of coarse. We know that the Hall chooses, but he can still express his preference. I mean, I would prefer to go to Plattsburgh State, but only the college can decide whether or not I go there.

Damn, all you guys care about is the Yankees. I know that when David Wells is done with the Sox i'll love him again, and I loved Coney again after his season with the Sox.

WEEI had shill on this am, and they talked about clemens coming back:

Curt Schilling this morning made his weekly appearance on WEEI's Dennis and Callahan program. Here are some excerpts: "I actually shook hands and said hello [to Clemens before the game] and didn't realize it until after the game. ... He said 'I don't want to bug you, I know you're getting ready for the game. I just wanted to wish you luck.' And I said 'OK.' No, we didn't chat."

Did you get the sense that he's going to seriously consider coming to Boston and will you try to campaign for that?

"Yes, and yes. I think the x-factor is going to be Debbie [Clemens]. I think she's going to have a lot of input, not that she wouldn't anyway. But I think she's going to have a lot of say in what he ends up deciding to do and what he ends up wanting to do. And I think Debbie likes Boston. And I think Boston is going to be one of the two spots he's going to consider coming back [along with Houston]."

So he's not going to consider New York in your mind?

"I don't think so."

"I think there's a lot of sentimental value [on Clemens coming back to the Red Sox]. I think he's sold, and was sold a long time ago, on the fact that this is not your ‘90s Red Sox. People in Boston are still pissed at him for what they feel like he did when [he left Boston] ... [but] there's not a man alive that would have stayed here and played for [Dan] Duquette after the idiotic and stupid things that he did and said."

"I've always been a fan of his (Clemens) to the point where I'll get verbally beat on by teammates because I'm a big Clemens fan."

Do you have a (Clemens) throwback jersey?

"I'm not a stalker, I'm a fan."

Would you make a recruiting phone call if asked?

"I'd wear a tutu. There isn't anything I wouldn't do, potentially, if the thought or the possibility that he wants to come back here. In all honesty, I think he's way past it and I think he's retired, mentally. But I think there's a part of him that's charging up for a three-month run with somebody."

I'm sure Schilling is in Clemens' head and can read his mind and can safely determine that Rog' WONT be interested in the Yankees.

Good ol' Curt for ya.

But honestly, why would he go back to New York? If he's torn between retiring and playing, why would he return to a place where he's already accomplished so much? If anywhere, I believe it would be Boston to end his career where it started and possibly win a world series there where he never did, or Houston to stay close to home. What if he goes back to New York and has a bad year? Would he really want to end on a bad note in New York?

He would go back to New York because of the relationship he has with the players, coaches, and the organization in general. I see what your saying, but I dont get how Schilling can just go and rule out NY. A) Because he's not in Clemens' head, and B ) New York is where Roger's had most of his success and still has a great relationship with everybody there.

Posted

Well, I don't think Rocket could ever go play in New York as long as Randy Johnson's there. Randy Johnson would absolutely bust a nut if his light in NY was taken away by Roger.

Haha, dude, I hate when the stupid smiley comes up when i try to put a ")" after a "B" to distinguish two different points
