Raja stays in Houston!!! He has a 10 year personal services contract when he "retires" for the final time with Houston. Keeping in mind the owners recent decision to cash in on Bagwell's insurance policy gives a bit of insight to his decision making philosophy. I don't believe Roger will keep that 10 year contract if he turns his back on the Stros at this point.

ah, bud, how is he turning his back on the stros if they didn't offer him arbitration? isn't that like saying thanks for the memories...even after your year last season?

Hammer

He basically signed a "lifetime" commitment with the Stro's by agreeing to the 10-year personal services contract. It would not look good if he were to now leave Houston for NY or Boston, then return upon his "retirement" to work in the Stro's organization. I believe the intent of the contract was for Raja to finish his career in Houston then start the personal services contract. Houston did not offer arbitration because one, Roger still hasn't made up his mind whether he wants to play this season and two, he is a great pitcher but not at $18M in a part-time role.

Nice to see you again BB

Yeah, and yeah. Just don't tell Combat Zone where we are, and if you give me a Bud Light just turn the label away and I'll pretend not to notice.

There is no doubt that Clemens is one of the best that this game has ever seen. To be perfectly honest, we all know that his best years are behind him. I think that if Clemens comes back to the A.L. he will get racked. I would much rather invest money in young talent as opposed to mirroring what the Yanks are doing. It is bad enough that Schilling remains a huge "?" in our rotation. Why invite more potential adversity?

I honestly hope the Yanks do pick him up. I think that the Sox would have a field day against him. That pin-straight 93 mph fastballwould look good plastered against the monster when our lineup gets ahold of it. In this past W.S., I saw something that I'd never seen before; Clemens looked human. I do not want a 40 y.o. mortal, do you?

Clemens, Schilling, Wakefield, Wells would all be in the rotation with Beckett.

That means 3/5 of our rotation would be over 40 years old with Schilling right behind. Not good on the idea racks.

Woah, I didn't know Wake was that old.

Yeah, Wake's like 39 I think. Anyway, as much as I'd like to see Roger a Red Sox again, I really don't want him at this stage. Obviously he'll cost too much and he's too old. He's also not committed to the start or end of the season.

Personally, and it's been brought up a lot, I don't want to see Roger Clemens break Cy Young's 192 win record with the Sox. I don't want anyone to think Clemens was actually better in any way than Cy F'n Young. Why would anyone want that record to fall?

It's like would the Braves acquire Bonds just to see him beat out Aaron as the HR king? Well, for me, same with Roger.

I think this will be a rebuilding year and I don't think the Sox will do much of anything. This is the time we should be spending on setting up the Papelbon, Beckett, Lester, Delcarmen, Hansen era that could start as soon as 2007.

I have no problem taking a step back for a year so long is something is accomplished in that time.

This single statement is pissing me off so much this year. Why do people think we are i a rebuilding year? Because we didn't sign or trade for high class names. We keep what was good on are team and improve what was lacking (defense, relief, ect) We don't really need Clemens but if we get him it will make are team only better. Paps and Lester will bth see soe prettu good time this year WHILE IN A PLAYOFF RACE, we will win the East and They will learn valuable playof experience. Hansen could see also some limited time. I just don't see why you are packing up your bags for 2007 alreaady:thumbdown

We will get our young stars moving in the right direction while also winning at the same team, it is possible.:D

Maybe we would have older pitchers but whats the draw back?? Clearly the one thing to be worried about is age. Considering our depth we have nothing to worry about when it comes to pitching depth...

If any of them miss time due to injury then we have backup plans. Besides we are talking about Curt Schilling, Roger Clemens, Tim Wakefield, and maybe David Wells.....three hall of famers and one guy who knows how to pitch for Boston better than anyone. I wouldn't be worried about the age of the rotation considering we still have young guys coming up behind them.

I like Clemens, great pitcher, but his sox days are behind him. He'll play for the US in the WBC and call it a career.

Depends on how he does in he WBC. If he does good, I think he'll come back, but I don't knw for what team

Why are we having an 8 page discussion on something that's never going to happen.

Because it's February would be my guess. Spring training right around the corner, there will be plenty to discuss very shortly.
