Celtics and Clippers have been in trade talks involving KG and Doc Rivers going to LA with DeAndre Jordan, Eric Bledsoe, and two firsts coming back here. Pierce likely wouldn't be back either but that's a different matter. Right now talks are at an impasse because LA doesn't want to give up Bledsoe while Boston won't do the deal without him.

Love it for multiple reasons. 1) It finally stops this fruitless slow decline and initiates the rebuild. 2) DeAndre Jordan will be a big expiring contract in two years. If we strike it rich in next year's draft and find ourselves on the fast track back to relevance, that will come in very handy. 3) Bledsoe coming back likely means Rondo will be dealt. 4) By the time we (hopefully) draft our star, we're already going to have some capable supporting players in house who, among other things, can play some defense. We won't have a Sacramento or Charlotte scenario where the inmates are running the asylum and nobody has any fundamentals.

The one negative is Doc is a guy I'd prefer to hang on to, for stability reasons.

I know the lottery hasn't been kind to the Celtics but it really is the only option.

I think they should do it, because the Celtics aren't going to win an NBA championship with this group.

However, the Celtics have been selling out since 2007, and every year (with the exception of the lockout) the value of the franchise keeps going up. They still have a reasonably competitive team, and plenty of star power. That should be sufficient to keep people going to Celtics game, and forking out $68 for the privilege. Unless they get completely overwhelmed in a deal, I don't see them making this trade.

The only time in the past twenty years (the worst stretch in franchise history) that we've fallen under 20th in attendance was in 04-05 (a playoff year, oddly enough). For the most part in the KG era the team hasn't drawn that much more than it did before, in terms of league standing at least. The fans will be there. I could see Wyc and company balking because there's a chance they could be getting ready to sell, but that's it.

I don't know what reasonably competitive means though. Reasonably competitive for a playoff spot? Nobody in Boston cares about a mere playoff spot, especially after the 2000s.

An extra 2,000 seats per game is pretty significant for a team with an operating income of $19 million. You also have to consider increased local television revenue, merchandise sales, the ability to increase ticket prices, playoff tickets, etc.. The Celtics have doubled in value over the last 10 years. Would Grousbeck gamble on a short-term loss for the potential larger gains of a contender? Maybe he dumps Pierce, Garnett, Rondo, and Terry and cuts enough payroll to remain profitable, but that raises another issue.

What is the impact of a rebuild on ticket prices? I think it rests on how bad the Celtics would be next year. Would you release Pierce and trade Rondo? What would a starting lineup look like without them? Bledsoe, Bradley, Green, Sullinger, Jordan? That assumes that the Celtics won't add anybody via trade, the draft, or free agency. What would your starting lineup look like in 2013-2014?

Fans are fickle. Push a youth movement and they'll buy it. If you have to, hang on to Rondo and sell him as the new Pierce, even though it will do dick for his trade value.

It's either take a loss in the short term for a gain in the long term, or stay in denial, and take a smaller loss in the short term and a bigger loss in the long term. I'd rather not become the Raptors.

The worst possible NBA season ever would be the Heat beating the Spurs in the finals in 7 games. And we're 1 game away from that happening. Absolutely disgusting. I mean picture perfect everything possible going wrong. God hates me. And I hate basketball. If the Heat win on Thursday I think I'm going to destroy my computer so I can go a few months without having to deal with Heat fans.

The Spurs were one defensive rebound away from winning in regulation. One. But Tim Duncan was benched on both of those possessions. Popovich benched Parker a couple of times too. Meanwhile Manu Ginobili has been god f***ing awful all night (and most of the playoffs), and not only does Popovich never bench his washed-up ass, he keeps putting the ball in his hands and letting him have the run of the court, which of course turns into Manu throwing the ball away and taking wild shots in traffic every time down.

Textbook case of overcoaching and out-thinking yourself. Spoelstra won a coaching battle without even doing anything. Popovich deserves to be spit-roasted over an open fire in the media. Won't happen though, too much legacy.

Ital, apparently you're a Spurs fan (or just a really dedicated Heat hater). You should be absolutely f***ing furious over what just happened. If this was the Celtics on the wrong end of this I would be in a daze with anger.

I'm both a Spurs fan, and a Heat hater.

And yes, I don't quite agree with Pop's faith in Ginobili (although he did near single handedly win the game before) but I understand his philosophy with benching Duncan in order to get faster players to defend shooters. Yeah, Miami missed, and got the offensive rebound and twice made the 3's. That's some really bad luck and some blame goes on the guards for not guarding the 3's. Allen's heave was lucky as hell.

The announcers were explaining why they benched Parker on defense. It made sense to me. So I'm more upset at the Gods and my luck than I am upset at Popp. I don't necessarily agree with all of his moves, but his 4 titles and verge of a 5th have earned the benefit of the doubt imo.

But yes, I'm resisting the urge to break s*** right now. If the Heat win game 7 people might have to call and check in on me.

Edit: Not to mention the fact that Ginobili, Parker, and Leonard all missed a free throw in the last couple of minutes.

Edit #2: And while I didn't see a replay that really could have been a foul on Miami on the last drive. Oh well, Spurs won in Miami in game one and for all intents and purposes should have done it again, so they can still win game 7.

Duncan gets those rebounds, or at the very least helps somebody else secure them. That's one of the fundamental aspects of his whole game. Manu was throwing the game all night. I thought Popovich was too objective and clear-sighted to let one aberration game suddenly earn that player the right to win or lose the next one, but I guess not.

You can't blame the refs when you had control over your own destiny and blew it. You can't blame missed FTs, because missed FTs happen. If Popovich hadn't had a massive brain fart, is there a still a chance the Spurs would have lost? Sure. But he didn't give his team the best chance, because he was busy getting cute with his lineups.

This benefit of the doubt thing is a crock. Bad decisions are bad decisions. Popovich deserves to be lambasted in the media.

Put it this way. If the Red Sox were in the ACLS or WS and John Farrell had done the equivalent of what Popovich did tonight, whatever that would be, there would be full-blown riots in the streets of Boston and Farrell would have to be put under protective custody.

I don't blame the refs for the game. I blame a lot of things, and I agree the coaching wasn't great and didn't work out tonight, in addition to the loyalty to Ginobili over others is risking games. I'm still gonna go with the fact that God just really hates me.

If Farrell had won 4 titles earlier there might be a difference. Then again there are a lot more Boston fans than there are Spurs fans. A Spurs fan riot might mean that Mexicans don't show up at Home Depot and help Americans build things for a while.

Allen's heave was lucky as hell.

It was lucky for the Heat that he got the opportunity to shoot it. But the shot itself was something he's been making his whole career.
