The Knicks traded a bunch of dead weight garbage for Anthony' date=' Billups, and more garbage.[/quote']

They're not superstars, but you're underselling what the Knicks gave up if you're going to call it dead weight - especially Gallo.

One Problem is losing Felton. Very good PG. I mean you have Billups but yeah now that is two key players learning a new offense and defensive scheme.

I agree however they will make the playoffs. I mean who doesnt. I just hope that they take on the Heat and not the Celtics in the first round.

I'm hoping more for the Bulls.

EDIT: And that's not a knock on the Bulls, but of the three teams that the Knicks might play in the first round (Celtics, Heat, and Bulls), they're the weakest.

To be fair, basketball schemes are much, much looser than football schemes, and easier to pick up. For the most part, there's your captain running the floor who sets up the play, but that's not even all the time. Basketball is very, very free-form. It's not like football, where a player can struggle with picking up a new scheme, like going from a 4-3 defense to a 3-4 defense.

When the Bulls get Noah back (later this week), could be a different story. They were 22-10 with Kurt Thomas as their center. However, I will say that it seems like the Knicks match up well against the Bulls.

No thanks Ital' date=' I mean Flynn. [b']Just like Ital you're white ;)[/b]

And what in the hell? Winter break towards the end of february. That's some wierd s***.

I'm 25% Colombian so suck my salty chocolate balls.

As for my break, I wish I had 2 weeks off instead of 1 and 1.

My thoughts on the Melo trade:

Getting rid of Felton and getting Chauncey gives us a shot this year and next, then they can go after Chris Paul or Deron Williams once Chauncey becomes a free agent. The Knicks are relevant and I congratulate them for turning the corner.

When I say "get rid of Felton" I mean they are selling high. He isn't the PG we need to win a Championship. Chauncey right now is so much better and they can add to the team in 1.5 years. He has a ring and is a Finals MVP. He's performing at the same level as Felton. Billups > Felton all day.

They might be able to flip Billups + additional assets for Deron Williams or Chris Paul next year, since both are looking like good bets to bolt their franchises. Hard to see the Knicks being able to sign either in FA.

Why not? Chauncey is a FA same time they are. We will have a lot of open cap available come 2012.

A lot of the knicks player have inflated numbers due to dantoni's system i dont see felton putting up the same numbers in denver as he did with the knicks same with Gallo, sure its hard to find a 6'10 forward but its also hard to find a froward that gives up 100 points a game. His D is horrendous

Eh I don't know how well they match up. With Noah and Boozer the Bulls should be able to dominate the interior, on both ends. I think the Bulls are an excellent team, and the only reason I said that is because I don't think they're quite on par with the Celtics and the Heat. So given the choice of facing one of the three teams, I'm taking the Bulls.

I don't see this happening, simply because the Knicks don't really have any assets to trade (besides Landry Fields, but that's it). I find it unlikely that, if D-Will or Paul were on the block, that would be the best offer their teams would receive. The Knicks need two things to happen if they want a legitimate chance at one of those players...

1. The new CBA not to shrink the cap by too much.

2. One, or both, of those players to hit free agency, where they might choose to play with Amar'e and Melo.

During Carmelo Anthony's wedding Chris Paul predicted a future Knicks Dream Team.

According to a person who spoke with wedding attendee Amar'e Stoudemire, Paul made the reference during a speech of a potential union of himself, Stoudemire and Anthony, saying, "We'll form our own Big 3," Paul said.

Knicks don't have to put the best offer on the table to get Paul if he's set on teaming up with Anthony/Stoudmire, by simply refusing to sign an extension with any proposed team, as with the Carmelo trade, Nets had made a better offer but Carmelo was unwilling to sign a deal with them, thus causing a trade between the teams to fall apart.

Completely agree. The old Phoenix Suns teams had some decent players, but they became real good scorers in Dantoni's run and gun system just because of the sheer number of possessions per game and the jump shots they were allowed to take.

I know the wedding story. Doesn't mean all that much. Sure, he might like to play with the Knicks, but you're telling me he would refuse to sign an extension with a team like the Lakers? I'd also doubt that Paul would feel comfortable handicapping his franchise, and force them to take a much lower offer. It's possible, but it's just not something to count on.

And as for Melo, while it wasn't his first choice, he would have signed on with NJ if it came down to it (according to everyone involved, including Donnie Walsh).

I found it funny because I see the NY fans here who love the trade, and my facebook feed was/is dominated by one of my former roomates status/wallpost updates about how much he hates the trade and wishes that he wasn't a Knicks fan anymore.

It isn't the perfect trade, but this was their chance to put together the core for the future and they had to take it. The idea that they didn't improve that much, for 2011, is legitimate.

Couldn't they have gotten Melo as a free agent and just skipped the middle man? Couldn't they have gotten him without giving up a bunch of their top players? Sure, in terms of salary they couldn't afford some of those players and might lose a few anyway, I'd imagine that the Knicks would be better with Carmelo, Stoudemire, and 1-2 players from the package they gave up.

Edit: I'm only asking since that seems to be the point my friend is pissed off about. I'm not arguing one way or the other.
