Technically Casey Kotchman is still a prospect and he has lots of talent. Considering how far along he is and ready to take the next level I would place him #1 although Brandon Wood did look awesome this year. I think Wood will continue to grow and make a case for himself. Jared Weaver should be on that list somewhere.

According to the Bergen Record, the Sox now have a shrink to talk Manny into staying:

By BOB KLAPISCH

Until now it's been baseball's open secret, knowing who'll be the most sought-after commodity at the winter meetings (Manny Ramirez) and what the Red Sox will be asking for in return (the meter drops at everything-you've-got).

Boston's CEO Larry Lucchino assumes Manny's serious about not reporting to spring training, as he's been threatening since October. And the Sox seem ready to comply, telling the Mets they'll meet face to face this week in Dallas.

But a below-the-radar hire in Boston may indicate a shift, if not a complete about-face, regarding Ramirez's future at Fenway. The Sox have retained the services of noted sports psychologist Don Kalkstein, who had worked for the Rangers and Dallas Mavericks before signing a lucrative three-year deal with Boston.

"One of the best in the business," is how one baseball executive described Kalkstein. That could explain why the Sox pursued Kalkstein so aggressively, and why they've made Manny his first assignment.

Can Ramirez actually be coaxed out of demanding a trade by someone who specializes in performance enhancement? It's a gamble, considering Manny's friends say his unhappiness has nothing to do with playing for the Sox. Instead, it's a lack of privacy in greater Boston, as well as family issues, that have soured him.

Still, the Sox figure it's worth a shot, especially if the field of suitors, which has swelled to five teams, thins out.

The Mets? They're still interested in Ramirez and one Met official repeated Saturday "no one in our organization is untouchable" in any potential deal. That means hot prospect Lastings Milledge, too. Ultimately, the Mets will (or won't) acquire Manny based on how much (or how little) he costs.

Thats really interesting, I hope it works. Honestly, players have issues too and if his issues can't be worked out and he won't play I would hate to see the sox backed into a crappy deal. I hope he can be talked into staying.

Sidenote, yagmaster and I both know a kid whose dad does that same sorta work for the dodgers. at least i think dave knows him, he worked with us for awhile. his name was avi, and i remember like three years ago avi's dad took him to the dodgers spring training and avi had his picture taken with gagne.

I like stories.

If done, at least Glaus would give us a slugger in Manny's absence. I just hope Papa Jack could work with him to get the K's done as well as a move to 1st base could get his errors down.

RotoworldThe Red Sox, Angels and Diamondbacks have talked about a three-team deal that would put Manny Ramirez on the Angels and bring Troy Glaus to Boston, according to both the Globe and the Herald. An old rumor back again. The Red Sox might also receive Darin Erstad in a deal. And prospects would change hands, of course. It's becoming less likely that the Mets will make a strong run at Manny. However, the Rangers might yet be in the chase.

I certainly hope the Red Sox can get more than just Troy Glaus for Ramirez. Troy's a good start, but it certainly isn't an even trade despite the salary differential.

Well is would be Glaus and Erstad ... but I dont think thats nearly enough.

The Red Sox wouldn't mind hanging on to Manny, and my sources say that there's a good chance a deal does not get done. Only if a team coughs up true star power like, say, a Carlos Beltran, will the Sox send him packing.

even if it was glaus, erstad and prospects, i still am not sure its enough, unless, the angels throw in some of their top tier prospects like kendry morales who might be mlb ready in a year or so, that way it restocks our minor leagues to replace the kids we traded to florida.

that being said...in a vacuum, its still hard to imagine a player of his caliber going for anything less than a proven all-star in return.

Again, if the Angels don't give us exactly what we want then we should keep Manny. It isn't crazy in my mind to get Glaus AND Ervin Santana, even though that won't happen it is far from unfair. The angels would be getting a guarenteed 900 run offense. If they have even decent pitching (which they will) it is a free trip to the playoffs. It is very hard to buy such things. They won't be regretting giving up Santana when they're hoisting the WS Trophy next fall, and perhaps the fall after that.

ProJo article about recent Manny non-developments:

http://www.projo.com/redsox/content/projo_20051207_07winter1.12b69a05.html

Ramirez' agent Greg Genske yesterday told reporters that Ramirez may demand that any team trading for his client vest his two remaining option years for 2009 and 2010 as a condition for accepting a trade.

As a 10-5 player, Ramirez has the right to veto any swap.

It looks like Manny and his agent are shooting themselves in the foot, demanding an immediate extension for any team that wants him. That only raises the stakes and makes it harder to find someone who wants him. GOOD! Keep him right behind Papi in the lineup.

Dodgers are in on Manny in a multi-trade scenario. I'm not even going to throw out the names I heard, until I get further substantiation, other than to say their initials were J.D. Drew and Derek Lowe. RUMOR, people, RUMOR.

who could the dodger actually think we'd be willing to take in return? I sure as hell don't want D.L. Drew and their best minor leaguers are supposedly untouchable. As a Dodger fan I'd love to have Manny here in LA, but as an even bigger BoSox fan, outside of Bradley or Kent, I am not interested...

Its looking more and more that Manny will be Manny in boston, for 2006 at least

Mets- Carlos Delgado and other big acquisitions have pretty much shot down a chance of them getting Manny as well

Angels- were interested, but in the winter meetings have said he is not in their plans

Texas- Soriano was biggest bargaining chip, who is now headed to DC

Dodgers- Not at all likely to happen

The most plausible is to the Diamondbacks for Troy Glaus, even so... Boston will in the end choose to keep their frustrating but loveable slugger

The call came just a few days after the Red Sox sent shortstop Edgar Renteria to the Braves and Tejada publicly expressed his desire to be traded from the Orioles.

According to the report, Tejada also informed a source close to him that he welcomed a trade to the Red Sox, who have been trying to deal Ramirez since the season ended. With Tejada having four years and approximately $49 million remaining on his deal and Ramirez with three years and $57 million left, the stage would seem to be set for an epic swap, the report said.

"The Orioles will explore trading for Ramirez," the source told the Herald. "It's a logical move to make, but I don't know how likely it is right now."

The source went on to tell the Herald that the Orioles would like the Red Sox to throw in either a right-handed starter or reliever into the mix before they take the talks too seriously.

Multiple teams contacted the Orioles yesterday and presented enough intriguing offers that even the prospect of Ramirez launching home runs at Camden Yards did not stand out, the source said.

"Some of the other teams match up as well as the Red Sox, which is why it doesn't look likely," said the source.

The source also said the Orioles are trying to find out how mad Tejada is at the organization and just how much he really wants to be traded.

Red Sox team president Larry Lucchino declined to comment on the situation, noting that anti-tampering rules prevented him from responding to speculation about players under contract to other clubs.

I really wonder how many teams are able to take on Miggy's salary. The Angels have shopped OC but no deal was made and the Mets would have to shed salary. The Orioles would have to at least seriously consider a Sox offer.

I asked the source where are manny and Tejada going to end up and he said

The Red Sox are close to sending manny to botht the angels and the Dodgers...there is a bidding war going on...the Red Sox want a shortstop...and that is the sticking point right now.....now this may be where Tejada comes in and they can work ouit a 3 way deal...i think Tejada goes to the AZ for Glaus, then gets swapped out for Manny....esentially there will be more involved as Glause isnt close to manny or tejada but that is the jist of whats being talked about

Okay, then you mean the 3-team deal would be between the D-Backs - Sox - Angels/Dodgers.

Gotcha.

But I still don't think the O's trade Tejada to the D-Backs if this is what's going to happen. It's essentially trading Tejada within the division and not getting Manny in return, but Glaus, who Manny is definitely better than.

THIS AND THAT: The Mets and Manny (Part Three).

According to a major league executive, the Mets made a strong effort to trade Kris Benson to the Rangers recently, hoping to acquire starter Juan Dominguez and outfielder Laynce Nix and then package them with Carlos Beltran in exchange for Manny Ramirez.

The deal with Texas dissolved, however, and Ramirez is no longer considered a front-burner issue at Shea.

one of the best proposed manny trades ive heard so far

I really would have no complaints to see Manny in a Red Sox uniform at the beginning of the season. It's been pretty clear for a while that we won't get good value, so why not keep him? We need to focus our efforts on Damon, trading Wells, and getting an SS and 1B. Manny can be Manny in Boston one more season.
