The guy struggles to have an ERA below 4 in the NL. True, they got him for pretty much nothing, and that's probably what they'll get out of him in return. Next Mike Remlinger?

He's better than Wayne Franklin, so i'll take him.

No offense to NY, but right about now, I'd be extremely shocked if Nomar signs with the Yankees. After having a good meeting with Dodger GM Coletti on Thurs., he decided to bring the wife along to a 2nd meeting Fri. with Dodger owner Frank McCourt. From what the local AM SportsTalk station XTRA reported, he was offered a 1-year, 6 million dollar deal to play 1B/LF with an option for a 2nd year plus a bunch of incentives.

Personally I thought he'd end up with the Halos before signing with the Dodgers, but he did grow up in Whittier, CA (near LA) and has a house in Manhattan Beach, CA (again, near LA)...factor that with the opportunity to play for his hometown team and assuming money being equal or comparable with other offers and I think he's staying here. It's been reported that he's soured somewhat on playing on the east coast (given his past with the intense media exposure) and other than LA, I think Houston is the only other serious contender since I believe that is where is wife is from. I wouldn't be surprised if the NY talks were just a way to leverage more interest/$$$...Either way we'll find out soon-

Yankees hope to sign Dotel

By Mark Feinsand / MLB.com

NEW YORK -- Brian Cashman has focused squarely on his bullpen this winter, and the Yankees' general manager appears ready to make yet another move in that area.

The Yankees are making a big push to sign right-hander Octavio Dotel, who is recovering from Tommy John surgery.

Dotel would join Kyle Farnsworth, Ron Villone and Mike Myers as the new pieces in the bullpen, as the Yankees try to strengthen the bridge to closer Mariano Rivera.

The Yanks have some competition for Dotel, including the Mets, the team with which Dotel began his career in 1999.

The Guardians and Red Sox are also believed to be interested in the 32-year-old, who appeared in 15 games for Oakland last season before undergoing elbow surgery.

Don't forget that Dotel may not even start the season in time as he's recovering from Tommy John surgery.

So far? This deal isn't even done yet.

although if Seanez can stay healthy and pitch like he did last year, he will really help as a 7th inning guy in the bullpen with mota and timlin in the 8th

This is a couple days old and I havent gotten around to posting it, but the Yanks re-signed Ramiro Mendoza to a Minor League deal. I like this just considering what Ramiro has done for our team over the years. Gotta stay loyal.

Don't want to sound like a broken record...but I'm shocked.

I didn't see this coming; I thought Cashman or Damon were just trying to bump up the price Boston would have to pay.

So...I got a few questions....

Whos going to be the leadoff hitter?, Jeters usualyy ours, and Damons usually the same, we've tried putting others in front of Jeter before, but idk if we want to have a permanent one.

Whats Bernies role? I know he can play backup CF, but I don't think he'd be a great DH, he'd have to bat like 7-9th, and hes decreased in HRs, and I could only seeing him knocking in 13-17 based on playing time.

Doesn't Sheffield hate Damon? or is that just Pedro(that Sheffield Hates)

What does this set your expectations for for the team? I mean were pretty good looking right now, and if we were to get anymore star players, our expection could be like 120 games, minamum?

Jeter is a number 2 hitter, always has been. Only reason he batted leadoff was because of the lack of a leadoff guy. Damon will hop in front of Jeter in the order.

bernie will spell Damon a day here or there in Center Field. Bernie will be the first guy off the bench in a pinch-hit situation, Bernie will DH when Giambi plays first, and Bernie will be the guy who fills in if an outfielder gets injured and has to go on the DL.

I dont recall Sheffield hating Damon :dunno:

Dont set high expectations like that. Last year we were supposed to be a team that would win 161 games, and look what happened. You win games on the field, not on paper. The paper doesnt tell you how a player will age, if a player will slump, if a player gets hurt, etc..

This is odd, I wanted Damon back when he was a Free Agent with Oakland before he went to Boston, but of coarse we got Rondell White instead. Funny how this came full circle. Same with Dotel, I would have killed for Dotel a few years back.

Last year at this time I would have bet myl ife that Damon would be a Yankee this year. As last year went on and the offseason approached I obviously backed off, so even though I predicted this last winter, this is still a surprise to me. I was convinced he was going back to Boston.

Very true, Jeter's best career numbers come in the #2 spot. Jeter's a pretty good leadoff hitter, but he's the best #2 hitter in the game.

Nice name, btw.

The Yankees are going to hold a press conference tomorrow to announce Damon's signing.

Memo to self: Program VCR to record this.

Too bad I cant stay home for this one. All of the major press conferences last few years Ive stayed home for, SERIOUSLY!

I remember last year staying home for RJ, turned out to be a 2 for 1 deal as I also got to see Beltrans as well, but the one that I will never forget is A-Rod's. That whole weekend that that deal wnet down fro, from Saturday morning to Sunday night when we were told it was a done deal I was literally glued to a media outlet the ENTIRE TIME, I could have been a reporter that weekend with how on top of that I was hahah.
