Those people sure know what they're talking about...

YES Network: Carl Pavano didn't throw from the mound as scheduled today, and Mike and the Mad Dog are saying he's been advised not to get on the mound for another two weeks because of his recent back troubles. The radio report is already calling him questionable for Opening Day. We'll probably be hearing more about this soon.

Honestly, who could've predicted this?

This doesnt come as a shock really, but I hope he does good in future endeavors along with taking a job with ESPN. A real classy guy and I give him his due.

Kind of sad. I would have liked to see Tino keep playing. However i'd rather him retire a Yankee, as he should. I am somewhat disappointed that YES didnt offer him a contract. He should be with us, not ESPN.

Bad news on Pavano already. I heard on WFAN in NY that he consulted a physician about his back, and the doctor advised him not to throw off a mound for 10 days to 2 weeks. It sounds like Pavano is picking up where he left off.

This is NOT good. I have been one of the few people who have supported Pavano this winter and were counting on him to be big in 2006. Not off to a good start Carl.

Man, am I glad Theo backed off of him.

Revisionist history.

I loathe Carl Pavano. More than I loathe Jaret Wright. Pavano makes like 70 mil a year to whine about mystery injuries and never pitch. Wright sucks, but at least he has a reason to be out, like getting hit in the face with a harpoon, or something. f*** Pavano.

The physician's name? Doctor Professional.

Carl Pavano is not a bad pitcher. He really reminds me of a overpaid Josh Beckett. Like Pavano or not this is sad how good talent is stoped by injuries... but atleast its not us and it makes me even happier its with the yanks.

Another Yankees pitcher could be down for the beginning of the season. But if Sturtze did miss time, it wouldnt put that much of a dent.

Rotoworld: Tanyon Sturtze, who had tests on his right shoulder following last season, will be about five days behind the Yankees' other pitchers as far as working off a mound. The Yankees never commented on what the tests on Sturtze's shoulder turned up. Sturtze merely said his shoulder was "worn down and weak." He could continue to have problems.

Well, he's like a slightly more durable and crappier Josh Beckett who doesn't strike people out. I want to trade him to Siberia.

How is he more durable?

In 8 seasons Pavano has started more than 20 games 5 times.

In 5 seasons Beckett has started more than 20 games 4 times.

Kevin Brown will retire. With recent years of him having back troubles, i had almost forgotten how a dominating pitcher he was in his time before NY.

Rotoworld: With his back still troubling him, free agent Kevin Brown's career appears to be over.

"Kevin didn't have me pursue any teams because he wanted to see how his health was," agent Scott Boras said. "He decided after the painful process last year he was not going to play. His arm is still remarkably good, but it's about his back. He had to endure a lot to throw last year." Brown, who turns 41 next month, could always change his mind at a later date. If not, he finishes his career 211-144 with a 3.28 ERA and 2,397 strikeouts in 3,256 1/3 IP over 19 seasons. He's not going to be a Hall of Famer, but there are lesser pitchers in Cooperstown. At 127, Brown has the same career ERA+ as Tom Seaver and Bob Gibson.

What a shame

Tell me about it. I'll never forget the years I spent laughing at the Yankees every time he'd go down.

It was only two years man.

but yea, they were pretty bad.

Beckett has a career high of 178 innings. Pavano's is 222, and has thrown over 200 twice. Beckett has been on the DL, what, 9 times in his career? 11?

In either case, Pavano sucks, and I hate him.

7 of Beckett's injuries were blisters, caused by having to pitch in 90 degree heat in florida.

Also Beckett has thrown more innings every year, while Pavano goes up and down.

Cashman did not negotiate the three-year, $39 million deal that Sheffield signed with the Yankees before the 2004 season, as the contract was hammered out between Sheffield and owner George Steinbrenner.

However, when asked if he would like to see Sheffield back in 2007, Steinbrenner deferred to his general manager.

"It's Brian's decision," Steinbrenner said. "Brian's the boss. It's up to Brian."

I'm scared.

I like what Cashman did here. By telling Sheffield that they are likely to pick up his option it keeps Sheffield happy and not bitching and moaning about his contract. I figured sometime in March we would hear him erupt. That said I would only bring Sheffield back(In 07) as the full time DH.

Carlos Lee will definitely be on George's list. Imagine C. Lee playing RF while having Sheffield be the DH? That is SCARY.

Anyway, I don't miss those bidding wars....we always end up spending so much friggin' money. Hahah, but they ARE fun.

I wouldnt want Lee personally. Hopefully by then Melky, Sardinha, or Thompson or someone will be ready. It'll be nice to see some young faces in the outfield.
