Ramirez eyes new agent for possible trade

Ken Rosenthal / FOXSports.com

Posted: 1 hour ago

Red Sox left fielder Manny Ramirez is seeking a new agent, possibly with the intent of orchestrating a trade out of Boston, FOXSports.com has learned. Ramirez, represented by Greg Genske, already is contacting other agents, according to industry sources. He is expected to accelerate the process once the Red Sox's season is over. The front-runners to represent Ramirez are expected to be Scott Boras, who helped arrange outfielder Gary Sheffield's trade from the Dodgers to the Braves after the 2001 season, and SFX, the firm that represents Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz.

Ramirez, 33, will gain full no-trade protection at the end of the season as a player with 10 years of major-league service, five with the same club. That protection effectively would give him the right to choose his next team. The Red Sox tried to trade Ramirez to the Mets at the July 31 non-waiver deadline. They are expected to resume their efforts this off-season, and a quick elimination from the playoffs could give them further impetus to make dramatic changes. The Red Sox trail the White Sox two games to none in the best-of-five division series.

Ramirez is guaranteed a total of $57 million over the next three seasons, and his contract includes $20 million club options for both 2009 and 2010. His new agent would not receive commission on his current deal, but would be in position to negotiate Ramirez's next contract. Ramirez would be a free agent at 36 if his team declined to keep him past '08 and at 38 if his team exercised both his options.

most 100% likely it will be the Mets. Outfielders they have really dont bring that much power at all compared at what Manny has done. Id opt for starting pitcher Steve Traschel, he's an innings eater pitcher who has importantly done very well against the Yankees. Traschel was seeking a trade this past July, and had some brief negotiations about joining the Sox.

David Wells is considering retirement this offseason, and dont think Sox will opt to pick up Wade Miller's option.

I think it'd be a terrible move to let Miller go uless he has surgery, and I'm not sure the Sox would like anything from the Mets, I'd hate to have Cameron/Floyd in LF, though I wouldn't mind Beltran. Beltran and Traschel has big upside for us and if we sign Konerko/Huff we'll have an even better team next year. Then we could re-sign Damon also.

1) Damon

2) Renteria

3) Ortiz

4) Beltran

5) Konerko

6) Nixon

7) Varitek

8) Youkilis

9) Graffanino/Ramirez

Oct 1 Red Sox pitcher Wade Miller, who underwent shoulder surgery Thursday in Delaware, won't be permitted to throw again for four months, according to the Boston Herald. Miller had surgery on a damaged right labrum.

Views: Miller has struggled through multiple injuries over the past few years and it will be a long and nearly impossible road back to the dominant form he had when he was with the Astros. His progress should be monitored as he could have sleeper potential if he signs with the right team and gets 100 percent healthy.

I know you want to get the best deal and all. If I were the Red Sox I would ask for something like Cameron, Lastings Millidge, and Aaron Heilman. Steve Traschel is almost 35 with a bad back. You cant depend on him to eat the amount of innings he ate previous to the back injury.

wouldnt you call Mike Cameron a liability as well, his head on collision with carlos Beltran? besides that I wouldnt want him, he's just a career .249 hitter and average strikeouts a season is 150+, yeah lets replace Manny with him please

I really hope Manny doesn't leave, but if he does, we better get someone good for him. And I wasn't thinking Beltran. I think Beltran is overrated.

I would do that trade assuming that you get someone like Konerko(who would HELP to replace Manny). I heard he will be fine. The Red Sox have a poor defensive OF. Cameron is a gold glover. Plus is Damon leaves you can add another bat along with Konerko and Cameron.

only players I would trade manny for would be beltran, dunn, or miguel cabrera...that's it

Manny should be back next year then. I dont know why he wants to be traded anyway. He should have never signed there if he is so unhappy.

i think the mets will push hard for him. I think the Sox should at leats get a verbal agreement w/ Konerko/Huff before even thinking about trading Manny. We need back-up for Ortiz.

Its not up to the Sox anymore. Manny will be a 10-5 guy, which means he picks when to make a trade and to what team. And Paul Konerko is laughing off talks of joining the Sox, he said white sox is where he wants to be or maybe the West Coast. A big part is that he grew up in rhode island as a Yankee fan...

As long as we replace him with someone good and sign Konerko/Huff for 1b I'm fine with it.

From what I understand, Konerko's first choice is to stay with the White Sox, but if not, then go with a West Coast team.

Honestly I'd prefer that he stays here whether he's going to cry or not. The fact is who has a better bat in the OF then Manny Ramirez. His power would be a huge loss to the Sox.

My bad...

and btw, i agree with the mets probably not tradin Beltran, just lickin my lips at the thought, that would be an offense w/ absolutely no holes. And also a much improved defense.

The guy was terrible in NY this year. Going to Boston would be just as bad for him, as I think he's definetely a small market guy. He might be another Edgar Renteria in the making if he goes there, just on a more expensive and grandiose scale

I think this was year was just a fluke, and fenway park wold probably be good for him. if he does bad he'll get boo'ed and maybe itll wake him up, not to mention he has hit for a high average at Fenway I think.

there are only a couple of guys that are worth manny's vaule hittingwise ; albert pujols and a-rod...i know we're not gonna get either one of those guys, so i say NO!!! to a manny trade

I definitely want Manny to stay in Beantown. Not that I would be surprised if he left.....it only makes sense: Boggs, Clemens, Vaughn, Nomar, .....Manny?...........not too surprising......and we wont get even close to face value for him.

Did anyone herrheard about the " hot Stove " discussions, thats when you talk about improving your team when the season is over. Why in the hell are you talking about trades, when we're in the middle of the play-offs ?
Posted
For the sox it will come down to production, just like in the July, Theo Epstien wont have the balls to pull the triiger and for good reason, its not like Nomar who was just limping around the club house complaining, and who says Manny wants to leave who beilives the media

ugh... manny will be under the 10-5 rule which means if he says to the front office a trade will happen, a trade will happen. he's protected under this clause of 10 years in the majors, at least 5 years with the same team. He can pick when it is done, and to what team. theo would have no say over Manny's.

how does he know if hes going to be unhappy before he signs?

-----------------

I think a pretty fair deal for both sides could go something like this.

Mets Get:

Manny Ramirez

Sox Get:

Heilman or Seo

Trachsel

Cameron

Milledge

Seems like Damon wont be back and Cameron is as good as you can get to replace him. You can sign Konerko, pickup an outfielder to play left, and you guys would be in good shape.
