When Wells said that Mantle and Ruth played with hangovers, George didn't own the team when they played. Wells insulted Toree and Mel. He joined in the word attack with Schilling. You have to expect us to boo him for that.

George still signed him knowing he was a drunk. What's the difference?

he probably expected better of the fat bastard, but oh well. I just hope (for your sake) his back doesnt go out in late September/October, the injury bug has killed us this year, it has killed you (but at least you didnt start off 11 - 19....) and if Wells backs out,(what a pun) especially in a big game, you'll know how Yankee fans felt in the 2nd inning of Game 5 of the 2003 World Series.
Posted
But how does Wells ruin the image of the Yankees when two of the Yankees most recognizable figures EVER were the same way? You are the guys that didn't want him back... so don't boo him when he crosses over to the other side.
Posted
Boomer fits in perfectly with the Sox, the exact opposite goes with the Yankees. Wells doesn't exactly fit in the whole "Pride of the Yankees"********. He does have a point about Mantle and Ruth though.

but Boomer was one of the proudest Yankees ever....this is heartbreaking, I loved Boomer, but realistically like Optimist said, he should have known what was going to happen when he put that jersey on.

Posted
Yeah, thats way overboard, no matter what team you are fans for. That's uncalled for, and I can totally understand his anger.

Yankee players hear that type of s*** from the "Fenway Faithful" all the time.

Posted
He would be giving New York the finger had he spurned any offer he recieved from the Yankees. The fact of the matter is, is that Boomer wasn't wanted in New York, which probably hurt him, more than the personal attacks.

Boomer is just being Boomer. When you attack him, he'll always fire back, it's just who he is.

Before he signed with SD, he had an agreement with the Yankees but backed out at the last minute

Posted
Yeah gee and that really ment something in the long run, huh?

How did he say "f*** you" to the Yankees by signing with Boston? Is the guy supposed to retire just because the Yankees don't want him. I mean think about it ... wouldn't you want to be on the best team? If you had your choice wouldn't you go to the place where you thought you could win a World Series? I could understand what your saying if the Yanks offered him a contract this year, but they didn't.

How is he dumb? Because he's honest? Because he's on a 1st place team instead of a 2nd place team? Because he's better than any pitcher in the Yankees rotation? Because he doesn't like the Yankees anymore? Let's not talk about people being dumb when you have Gary Sheffield, Jason Giambi, and Kevin Brown on the same team. People in glass houses shouldn't throw rocks.

there were other teams that wanted him, if his passion for the Yankees was as strong as he claimed then he wouldnt have gone there. Majority of Yankees and former Yankees are pretty loyal, you dont see too many former Yanks going over there...recent years its Mendoza (which was a heartbreak to see him in that jersey), Wells, and Olerud (who I dont really consider a Yankee, he was with us for 2 freakin months). But you got guys who were loved there like Clemens, Boggs, Bellhorn, Embree, etc.. coming here...even Nomar said he was willing to come here in the offseason.

You're kiddin right? Saying "f*** you" to Yankee fans? Everyone knows he wanted to sign with the Yankees during the offseason, they didn't want him. The Yankees has thier chance to sign him and passed, so he went to the next team that made him the best offer, that team happened to be the Red Sox.

He obviously preferred to come here in the offseason, but anywhere but Boston would have been fine. We dont deserve the "f*** you" from him, we're not the ones who didnt entertain the possibility of bringing him back, that was Cashman. He was a headache to everyone related to the Yankees except George and the fans (despite the ups and downs George loved Boomer).

He said his proverbial 'f*** you' to Yankees fans by signing with Boston. Again, he played with San Diego, and he got a standing ovation when he threw 8 great innings against us.

The point isn't he shouldn't have signed with Boston, he could sign wherever he wants. The point is he shouldn't have signed with Boston if he wanted to remain loved by Yankees fans. Yankee fans are going to do nothing but jeer Red Sox players. If he thinks he's going to be a special exception, then he certainly is dumb.

Yeah, it is heartbreaking. I look at his perfect game as the turning point from being a casual fan to a die-hard fan, so to see him (or hear him) rip Yankee fans, it just doesn't sit right. Not everyone booed him, I wouldn't have if I was at game when he was pitching against the Yanks.

I think I would have booed him, but only because he was a Sock, when he retires and his career is all said and done, when he comes back for old-timers day he will get as big an ovation as anybody. Its like how Jeff Kent got recieved on opening day in SF this year...because of the uniform Wells is wearing, we are going to boo him. But when he tales it off he will be loved again (as long as he doesnt keep pulling this s*** and ripping us)

I think a good comparison for this 26 to 6 is Roger Clemens going to the Yankees. I still love Roger Clemens. Clemens wanted to stay in Boston, much like Wells wanted to go back to NY, and both teams slammed the door on them. Clemens went to the Yankees, I hated him for that, now hes not a Yankee and I love the guy again. I would kill to watch Roger put on the Sox uniform one day again. Roger has said some things to rip Boston and to be honest I dont blame him. I still love the guy.

I think its time that David grows up. He was a good Yankee but he screwed it up by going to the Red Sox. Andy Pettitte was offered the most moeny when he was a free agent by the Red Sox but I dont see him jumping ship. Besides we booed him what? Opening day? That was in April and hes still talking about it? Grown up David and worry about more important things like pitching.

Yea but Rog didnt rip YOU GUYS, he ripped the organization.

Point taken. Didnt really think of that variable haha.

However, many fans still can't stand him for joinning the Yanks anyway.

Thats understandable. I just hope he doesnt get booed for it at Roger Clemens day at Fenway Park when he has his number retired (assuming he goes into the Hall as a Red Sock, because due to the stupid Bosox number retiring policy, a player must spend 10 years with the Sox and be inducted into the Hall as a Red Sock to have his number retired)

So he didn't rip the fans, when just last year he was saying that he felt bad that the Red Sox won the World Series, because the fans wouldn't have anything to whine about?

I'll just add that I wouldn't boo Clemens, and I still have a ton of respect for him. Hell, last night in my dream I was out somewhere, and I ran into Clemens and his wife. I was gushing about his career (though I did let it slip that Pedro had a better peak). Clemens said to me, "maybe I'll be back in Boston next year". And might I add, it was my second dream in a few weeks in which I ran into him and his wife, and he hinted that he was going to be a member of the Red Sox in 2006. Weird dreams, I might add.

The reason I don't let the things he's done and said get to me is because I know he's an idiot. David Wells is an idiot. To take anything these people do or say to heart is downright silly.

That's funny Stevece. last year I definitely had a few "running into Pedro" dreams. In one of them it basically turned into Field of Dreams, when I asked him to 'have a catch' and he said YES!!!! Even after I woke up it was a really cool feeling to have 'experienced' meeting Pedro and speaking with him.

Regardless that isn't the point. He wants to spurn the Yankees by going to Boston good for him. But don't come out bitching that the fans booed you and you don't like them anymore. The only two teams we wouldn't cheer for him are with Boston and the Mets, and I'm not even sure about the Mets. He should know and accept what he was getting into.

He wasn't "spurning" anyone by signing with the Sox, the sox gave him th ebest deal, he signed, easy as that.

You seem to be bitching as much as he does. If he should accept your reaction as just desserts, then you should too. Live and let live.

I would cheer for him if he was with the Mets. Im not one of the Yankee fans who hates the Mets. I have too much pride for where im from to hate a NY team. The only time I root against the Mets is during the Subway Series (regular season and World Series)

My intuition told me October of 2003:

http://forums.netsports.com/showthread.php?postid=367126#post367126

.....that Schilling would be traded for, so I'm confident that Roger Clemens will be with the Red Sox in 2006.

I doubt it. He wont sign with the Sox when he has the opprotunity to be in Spring Training with his son, and have the possibility of having his son called up in September. That would be some hell of a battery, Clemens catching Clemens (his son is a natural 3B, but he also catches).

The only team I could see him being traded to is the Yankees.
