They should have sent down Petagine he has no use now that Olerude is back, Youks still at least has use as a back up at third if needed.

Petagine has tons of use since Millar STILL can't hit. Looked like crap last game. Seems like every at bat he is off balance. I want Petagine on the team cause it seems he always hits the ball hard. A guy who does that will get hits and some HRs. He is far more devastating at the plate than Millar and can hit for more power than Olerud. Johnny Helmet will work the count better which is nice. Maybe Petagine is still there cause Millar is going to split with Kapler more in the outfield until Nixon gets back.

Sox now have four 1st baseman in David Ortiz, Kevin Millar, John Olerud, and Roberto Petagine

Ortiz has been and will always be a DH unless we get to the World Series again. Ramon is capable of backing up Mueller at third for a night and if we need to bring Youks back up from AAA in case or injury that is easily done. If Millar don't start pulling his weight I would think that he would be traded or released. He isn't worth the money anymore. Had I known this would be his level of performance I would have rather seen Dougie come back for another season in Beantown and let him keep the damn ball. He at least brings some nice leather to the table. He may not be the best hitter in the game but he is one of the best glovemen. Millar is an amusing character and that's it right now. I say start Olerud as he can defend and still hits pretty well. Just my two cents.

(1) duh dude I know Papi is always gonna be the DH except for interleague games and the world series (2) um Ramon Vazquez has been gone since June, traded for Cora who plays sloppily at 3rd base

haha yeah I was confused about the Ramon comment too. One thing I notice is that Tito does not have an everyday lineup. Cora, Kapler, Millar, Petagine, Stern, now Olerud....these guys all play. It seems the lineup changes everyday so he has his matchups vs. certain pitchers. If you look week to week its hard to notice who the backups are.

The only everyday players on defense are renteria, ramirez, and damon.

I don't see how this constant promotion and demotion can't be affecting Youk. He must know that he's in this team's long term major league plans, but it's still gotta be annoying as hell for him. :(

yeah ramon vazquez wasnt missed that much by red sox nation, Alex Cora deal hasnt been much in spotlight as Tony G has obviously--but must say acquiring him was another good deal on Theo's part, when at 2nd and ss he will play some solid D and in his last 12 games has hit .313 with 2 HRs, this coming from the guy who in his 8 years has hit just 30. A good backup to have all in all

merloni had this happen one year and I always wondered if he got pissed. He was a trooper though and it appears youk is a trooper about it as well.

This one must be brutual though..

Olerud coming back....pentagine should have been sent down well millar but that wouldnt happen.. It's a no brainer..

my friend called me up and said he heard on WEEI this morning that since today's game has a right handed pitcher, Petagine seems likely to get the start, what Francona said. Obviously something's goin on, considering Millar has had success against Bonderman in the past

There is an article on the red sox site about Youkilis where he says that he expects this and he is ok with it and plans to come back in September. He said he wants to play full time next year. I also read somewhere that Petagine may be the Starting first baseman against righties, and Millar against lefties. I guess Olerud is a late inning replacement and pinch hitter. That makes our bench really deep. :D

Words cannot describe how pissed off I am about this move.

Kevin Youkilis hasn't played a full season in the bigs, but he's already a professional. He handles his misfortune with grace and dignity and that's admirable. He's able to put things into perspective a little and say "hey, I play baseball for a living, how can I complain?" In short, he's exactly what this team needs.

In addition, he's shown that he is not only beyond AAA, but capable of performing at the big league level and WILLING to accept a backup role to be on the team.

At the same time, the team holds on to a loud-mouthed, constantly bitching, worthless human being named Kevin Millar (I mean come on, this guy's a waste of oxygen) who can barely play first base, let alone the outfield. Also, the team is now carrying 4 first baseman, 3 of which can't play another position, 1 of which (Millar of course) shouldn't play any position at all.

So the team's covered in case 3 of these guys all get hurt in the same game? Fan-f***ing tastic.

What happens if Mueller (who's historically fragile) gets hurt? Alex Cora? Bitch please. He's already proven that he shouldn't be playing third.

Olerud for Youkilis weakens the bench IMO.

If Mueller were to get injured I'm sure the Sox would bring Youkilis back up. I mean if the Sox need him he can be back in a day. Just cause he goes back to Pawtucket doesn't mean we won't see him in a century.

Although I wish Youkilis was still there (nice hit yesturday BTW) I think Petagine needs to stay because that means one thing....less playing time for Millar. The addition of Olerud means...less playing time for Millar. As it is, Millar has been batting less and after last nights performance it has to be getting old at this point. I don't mind having Kevin on the team if he isn't playing. He can do that behind the scenes crap and get the team going. Between Petagine and Olerud...1st base is taken care of....Kapler has a hold on the OF until Nixon gets back....and if Mueller were to get injured....Youkilis can get back up to Boston the next day.

No big deal

terry said manny called him this morning and felt beat up.the choice was now or when the play the angels.

I gotta say this is better.

although the choice of putting that f***ing fat ass in left wouldnt have been my solution, but we have handled bonderman before and I hope we can without manny.

Keeping Millar out of the lineup is wonderful, and his fat ass could certainly keep a great deal of the bench warm all at once on cold September nights, but there comes a point where having such a useless player taking up valuable roster space hurts the team. I think we're beyond that point with Kevin Millar.

Maybe they should have sent fat ass Millar down there. Olerud/Petagine/Youk are all needed! but Millar is not needed.

Olerude can't play first every day, I still don't trust Petagine at first every day, Youk is not a full time first baseman. Right noe Millar is there to play first and only first.

Considering Petagine played 1st everyday in Japan (won gold gloves) and played everyday at Pawtucket and is the same age as Millar.....I trust him

Millar on the bench really isn't a great idea if you think about it.

If he's on the bench, you know Tito would use him to pinch hit because Olerud and Petegini are both lefties. So that means you'd probably see more of Millar late in the game - especially considering he can take over in right or left field.

I like Millar so seeing you guys get all wound up about him is starting to crack me up. I almost came on last night after Millar made that bad throw to 1b but it wasn't called an error - just to rub it in. haha

I bet you that even if Millar continues to play the way he has so far this season, he'll be on the postseason roster. ;) The fact that he plays other positions, works counts, gets on base, has a positive clubhouse influence and has been to the playoffs the last 2 years make him impossible to leave off the roster.

Cowboy Up, suckers!

He had a hell of a game today....killed a nice looking rally...basically didnt do a damn thing. I also don't see him pinch hitting against lefties....he can't hit them...look at his average. I will say Millar is pretty good at fouling off pitches....completely unbalanced on every swing, no power.....worthless

Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay off topic......

Me?

Looking through old posts on Netsports, I found a particularly confusing post, by myself. I said something like, "it's not time to break out lampshades just yet". I had no clue what I was really referring to, until I searched the word "lampshades", and realized I was referencing one of your posts. I actually thought it was pretty funny.

On Jeter's "improving defense":

"And batting a solid .220! Woohoo. Party with lampshades!!!!"

Could you find a better way to start a fight?

I tried. But, no.

Still have no clue what it was referencing, but it was pretty funny nonetheless.

Oh, and go Olerud! See, that was on topic.
