If nothing else comes out here is another possiblity. Kay's report of two hall of famers testing positive was correct. However they WON their appeals and the case was dropped.

They could have won their appeals for a number of reasons, chief among them MLB's conflict in interest. MLB presumably doesn't want to expose their biggest stars as cheaters and steroid junkies. This is why Congress, in my opinion, should take the steroid testing out of the hands of MLB and the NFL, and impose strict, outside testing.

you posted this same message on the Yankee fan board

Still no news this morning. If nothing else comes out here is another possiblity. Kay's report of two hall of famers was true, they were found to have steroids in their system.

However they WON their appeals and the case was dropped.

It's been a week since the alleged information came to a Yankees announcer and still no word other than an absolute denial by MLB of the allegations contained the the rumors.

No wonder McCarthy got lots of traction with the anti-communist folks 50 years ago. It's similar here. You have trolls who have personal, mental and emotional problems repeating the same garbage without any factual knowledge of wrong doing.

Troll boy, at long last, have you no shame?

So what if I post similar messages on two boards. And the McCarthy reference only reflects shame upon youself, although you seem unaware of it.

I believe that this poster should be banned from the board. He contributes nothing, but instead pulls the board down.

I beleive it was Peter Gammons who made the original McCarthy reference. Please see post #1.

I happen to agree with his point.

I remember hearing a lot of people bringing up Clemens name when Canseco said that pitchers also use steroids. I actually remember Clemens being used as an example of a pitcher who might have. I really don't harbor any bad feelings towards Rocket since he screwed over the Yanks, but if it's gotta be someone I'd rather see Clemens than Schilling.

Yeah I'd hate to see Schilling be the one, and I doubt that it is him. I still don't like Clemens althought I do have to give him credit for "retiring" from the Yankees then going elsewhere and pitching some of his best ball ever! :)

Does anyone know when they are releasing the names?

I read a rumor on another board that the names will come out tomorrow, Friday. But who knows?

Posted

Dan (Boston): Are you a Carpenter or Clemens man?

Rob Neyer: Clemens, although that could change soon...

I think the name that would bring baseball to its knees is none other than Roger Clemens. I hope it isnt true, and no guns, it isnt imminent, but I just wanted to pass it along.

Apparently Theo Epstein agrees on the McCarthy analogy. Go Away Senator Booby

Johnny Damon denied a rumor that he tested positive for steroids.

''No way,'' Damon said. ''If I tested something positive for anything, then someone threw something in the (sample). I think it's because of the way I'm built. I've had people thinking that since I was in high school.''

Of course he's going to deny it, so did Giambi, Sheffield, Bonds, Palmiero, etc. you can't really put any stock into what players say about steroids anymore.

Giambi admitted it, to the san-fran chronicle

Accordding to a public to a public statement by the San Fransisco Chronicle , "Giambi described how he injected human growth hormone in his stomach, testosterone into his buttocks, rubbed an undetectable steroid knows as "the cream" on his body and placed drops of another, called "the clear," under his tongue.

Major League Baseball officials received at least a dozen phone calls yesterday regarding a rumor MLB was about to announce that Roger Clemens and Johnny Damon had tested positive for steroids, with an announcement coming today. "Total BS," one official said. MLB and the players' union had released a joint press release last week, vehemently denying that more prominent players had tested positive in the aftermath of Rafael Palmeiro's failed test. -- 8.18, from Gordon Edes' Red Sox notebook

"I just think people want to start something with anybody. I'd be more than happy to take any test. There's no way. If I tested positive for something, it's going to be because someone threw something in a drink or did something like that. I'm used to that stuff happening to me this year. There's been so many rumors in my personal life in Boston that it's been absolutely crazy. Rumors don't bother me. I know the person I am. What else can you do about it? You're in the spotlight. There's people in Hollywood that deal with it all the time. Our team is the closest thing to Hollywood in baseball." -- 8.18, Johnny Damon on the bogus internet chat board steroid rumors that have littered email inboxes over the last few days

if he was takin them I don't think he would offer to take a steroid test

damon didn't lie to congress, by comparing him to palmeiro you're comparing apples and oranges

I know you are hoping that he did test positive, then you might have a chance to get into first place with the 10 day suspension :D

Ever heard of masking agents? I can pump myself with steriods every hour of the day if I have the right masking agent it won't come up on a test.

You're incorrect on all three of your post.

Bonds has never once offered to test in front of the media, he wouldn't put himself in that kind of position. Sheffield offered, but when a reporter produced a cup, he backed down.

And Sosa, cried like a little bitch when Rick Reilly told him to test right now.

I believe his quote was "Are you trying to get me in trouble?!!"

Just pointing out that guys could be stretching the truth when it comes to steroids, even people we would tend to trust.

And s*** yeah I want Damon to be suspended, we need to make up some ground! Plus it would make for great heckling at the Stadium.

I really don't wish it to be anybody, I don't want it to come out that anyone was cheating. However, if I had to pick people on the Red Sox and Athletics would be the place I'd start.

I'm not completly buying the story that no MLB superstars have tested positive after Raffy Palmeiro.

MLB could have swept the positive results of superstars under the rug. Can MLB be depended upon to police themselves, considering the history of looking the other way on the steroid issue? Perhaps they decided MLB could not withstand another revelation bigger than Raffy.

So under this scenerio, a way was found to find grounds to let the players "win" their appeals, and this would explain all the rumors too.

The names could be forthcoming next week or next month. Look how long the Raffy appeals took.

Bottom line, this type of discussion is healthy. I look back with sadness upon the days of naive fans applauding McGwire's breaking the HR record, of Giambi hitting two monsterous HR's off Pedro Martinez in game seven of the ALCS to get the Yankees into the 2003 World Series (Giambi was juiced), of Barry Bonds making every pitcher look like a slow pitch softball pitcher (Bonds was juiced).

No more naivity. Let the free discussions on who may be on steroids continue until there is a foolproof, trustworthy method that guarantees that none of these guys are. And that means a testing regime, imposed by Congress, which includes at least one random blood test per year.
