If so, then please vote for Scott Podsednik in the 30th man all-star voting:

http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/events/all_star/y2005/fv/pop.html

I am a White Sox fan not above groveling to the fans of the reigning World Series champs for help. Podsednik has been one of the main reasons for our success this year (after our fantastic pitching) and I'd rather see him in the all-star game than more damn yankees.

Thanks and here's hoping we see you in the ALCS!!!

I do dislike the Yankees, I don't hate them, I do like Jeter and I DO hate A-Rod a whoooole lot.

Anyways. I voted for Jeter. Because I think he is one of if not the best shortstop in the game.

Thanks to all who helped get Scotty into the All-Star Game. Sorry to anyone who thought I was spamming you guys.

I much prefer that the Yankees (Jeter, Matsui) get the days off instead of playing. We've got a big stretch coming up with Boston, Texas and Anaheim on the road schedule, and no off days in between.

It would be nice for Jeter to make it, but I have no problem with him staying home. Podsednik definitely isn't having a better year than Hideki.

I wouldn't exactly say that Posednik is having a better year than Matsui. On paper, it looks like Matsui has the edge, but watch a few White Sox games and you'll recognize that Posednik does a lot more than his numbers say. You can see the opposing pitcher's eyes twirl around in his head thinking about trying to hold him on first base. I don't think that it'd be too much of a stretch to say that he has had the biggest impact of any American League acquisition this season.

Ok well for argument's sake, let's take a look at some statistics.

Matsui .317/.385/.522- .907 OPS

Podsednik .289/.363/.337- .700 OPS

Matsui 13 HR, 65 RBI, 54 Runs

Podsednik 0 HR, 17 RBI, 48 Runs

Matsui- 99 Hits, 38 BB, 23 2B, 1 3B, 2 SB

Podsednik-78 Hits, 32 BB, 13 2B, 0 3B, 41 SB

So there is absolutely on reason for Podsednik to be there, unless the All Star Game is a speed contest. I don't care what intangibles he has, the numbers don't come close to comparing to Hideki's.

It doesn't matter, but Matsui is having the better year.

This is the smartest thing I've ever heard a Yankee fan say in my entire life. And I mean that from the bottom of my heart.

As cool as it will be for Johnny Damon to start the All Star game, wouldn't it be better for him to take the 3 days off, especially because he's so beat up?

Matt Clement isn't going to the All Star game-- Fantastic. He'll be fresh and ready to go against the Yankees. Same with Timlin. 3 necessary days off.

Sure, it'd be nice for the Red Sox to have home field advantage IF they make the World Series this year, and that's something to root for, but in the end, wouldn't you rather have your guys take the 3 days off to get healthier?

And I'm telling you the numbers don't matter. Switch the two players and have A-Rod and Jeter and Sheffield hitting behind Posednik and Taguchi and Everett hitting behind Matsui and a lot of those numbers would flip flop.

I've seen probably 20 White Sox games and about 30 Yankee games this season and Posednik has done a lot more to help his team win than Matsui has. They probably both deserve to be there, but I'd take Posednik over Matsui.

posednik, i cant believe this guys speed, its purely amazing to me... jeez 48 stolen bases, and thats just halfway thru the season

I'm frightened to see what he'd do if he got on base with Wakefield on the mound. He might steal second and third on the same pitch.

All-Star game a joke without Jeter

Baseball wants the All-Star game to have meaning? I don't get it.

If the game means so much, why are some of baseball's best players not in the game?

Derek Jeter just lost out on the internet vote to Scott Podsednik. That never should have happened. And Michael Young is more deserving than Jeter??? Don't make me laugh.

If I were starting a team right now, the first player I'd take would be Jeter. No one is more clutch in big games than him, no other shortstop in baseball has more championships, and no other shortstop has to play in a tougher media town.

You'll never find a better person to represent baseball than Derek Jeter. His numbers easily warrant him being in Detroit, and the fact that he had to be on the list of five players that had to beg for votes is a disgrace to the game.

First, the fact that home-field advantage is decided by this game is a joke.

Second, can you imagine an NBA All-Star game without Michael Jordan or Magic Johnson? Neither can I, and Jeter is the Jordan of baseball.

Third, if this game means so much to the outcome of the World Series, then put the best players out there on the field and forget the "player from every team" concept. Some teams don't have All-Stars, and fans don't want to see those players anyway, especially if they don't deserve it.

If you want to do that stupid internet vote, let the fans of those non-deserving players vote their player onto the team, that way, when some team doesn't have a player, only the fans are to blame. The All-Star game is a joke, especially when the best players are not going to be there.

Derek Jeter is better than the All-Star game. It makes me sick that he won't be there.

It doesn't matter the games you have seen, what matters are the overall stats. And Matsui has helped his team in far more catergories than Podsednik has helped the White Sox. I don't care about the intangibles, the lineups, whatever. Matsui has gotten the job done at a far better rate than Podsednik, thats all that should be taken into account.

Matsui is hitting better, Podsednik is running better, and they have comparable fielding stats. But, I tend to agree with what someone mentioned earlier. Podsednik is more of a catalyst for his team. Stats aren't the "end all be all" determinant in gauging a player's performance. If they were, then no Yankee fan should compain (I'm not saying you have) about Michael Young being selected before Derek Jeter. In my opinion, intangibles count, and that is why I think both Jeter and Podsednik should have made the team.
