it has to be an injury we dont know about, or plain and simple he might not care each time he goes up to the mound. Like how come his ERA in non save games is 1.50?? and in save situations his ERA is ten times higher at 11.00--kinda makes you think, huh

What I think has happened is since that he only has the fastball and changeup, your changeup picks up speed becoming more like the fastball so it's easier for hitters to hit. God, I feel sorry for whoever picked up Foulke on your fantasy league team... I feel your pain, I picked up Gagne.

i just dont know what to say, our bullpen just about every player is now flawed--even though timlin has a nice ERA of 1.60, would be much higher if they counted the number of inherited runners hes let score--Tito time to clean the house

MILAR PLAYS FIRST

Thats giving him far too much credit. Millar puts on a glove and plays on the right side of the infield near the line, if and when there is a ground ball to someone in the infield he covers first base, and he for the entire game hopes there isn't a high infield pop up to him.

im still not scared:

The San Diego Padres made a pre-emptive strike to address some bullpen needs by acquiring New York Yankees reliever Paul Quantrill in exchange for struggling pitchers Darrell May and Tim Redding, two San Diego-area papers reported. Quantrill, who was designated for assignment on Thursday, is expected to be activated upon his arrival on Sunday. Quantrill was 1-0 with a 6.75 ERA in 22 games with the Yankees. May, a left-hander, was 1-3 with a 6.69 ERA in eight starts for the Padres this season. Redding was 0-5 with an 8.94 ERA in six starts. Both will report to the Yankees' Triple-A club in Columbus, Ohio. The Padres will also send an unspecified amount of cash in the trade. Quantrill is making $3 million this season plus a $400,000 buyout on an option for next year. May is making $3.2 million, Redding $750,000.

I coulda sworn he was better than Mariano Rivera. What happened guys?

Mantei was a closer...use him. Or trade for someone like Fuentes who won't cost a lot. Better yet, trade Foulke for some nice set-up/mid-relief pitching. I don't like the idea of getting a complete new closer, we have Mantei, use him, and if he feels better in the set-up roll, then try someone out. Myers can get people out. Maybe we can trade Foulke and Embree in a package?? (Sorry Foulke, I know you're not THAT bad to be traded with Embree.) Thoughts? It's just that I personally would like not to cringe everytime I hear one of our pitchers from the bullpen (other than Timlin) is warming up. Go for solid players, and use the closer we already have in Mantei. Maybe Cornroyo can try out for the closer spot (reversal of D-Lowe) for f***s sake.

But saying Tito must go? Sorry, I've had some issues with him too over his time here, but any manager that can get us a World Series title after all the heartaches IN HIS FIRST SEASON WITH THE TEAM has my respect and can f***ing stay the manager of the team. Have a nice day :D

He has the stuff, i.e. good velocity and decent breaking pitches, but he lacks the location. Too many walks.

The velocity was never a problem, it's that he throws a lot of balls, like you said. We also saw Clement have trouble with his location at the beginning of the season, and look at what came out of him!

wish you the best of luck matt, and get better. i was kinda getting confused with don and remy saying abe was only up here for last night. we do need him up here now with mantei's season looking like its done with, so pretty much need that extra arm.

yanks are 39 - 39, tampa bay grabbing hold of them by the nuts 4th place in AL East

The Yankees have been terrible? God you people are stupid. Everything is an attack on the Red Sox.

And I wasn't big on Pavano.

besides his awful ERA and horrendous Btg average against..

I heard the most disturning fact of all the other night..I believe he has retired the side 1-2-3, 4 times this season.

yep havent been terrible, dude a $200 million roster should perform well above .500 by the halfway season mark. commentator on espn coined the phrase " the pin head stripes"

Yep the second he took the mound tonight I says to myself, "well, there goes another game". Yep.

They should have given him a short leash to begin with. This is the major leagues, not little league where every kid gets his turn. Send him down to Pawtucket or something. SOMETHING. Just find a place for him and bring him back IF and WHEN he is READY. If he never is, then that is what was meant to be.

You can tell by the look in his eyes that he is afraid to even throw the frigging ball.

At this point I agree.....something is wrong and this is not the place to fix it.....the race for the AL East is too tight to be messing things up like this. At the very least he needs to be taken out of the closer role where the game is not in his hands to lose. Hand it over to Timlin or lets go get someone.

Albert Einstein defined insanity as thus: Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. I liken this to Francoma using Embree and Foulke again and again and again.
Posted
OK. We need to pickup a closer no doubt about it, but Foulke doesnt need to go. Foulke cant continue to close, and he should really be a setup guy. The stats that convinced me of this are: Save Situations- 10+ ERA, Non-Save Situations- 1.something ERA. If we can get someone to close I am confident that he can get into a rhythm in a setup role with Timlin.

he should be sent away with embree. I dont see him with his 83 mph meatball being of any use to anyone.

Get rid of him.

There are stat manipulations that would convince he can do anything but harm.

Last night was a game we should ahve won. Battling back from being 3-0.

MIller with a gutty performance.

Even the most notorious bum in the world embree did his job, and foulke f***ed up and he always f***s up and he should be thrown to the sharks and soon.

Terry's patience is unbelievable and bordering on insanity.

Terry's patience borders on the absurd.

embree has an 8.00+ era and foulke has a 6+ era, it isnt too diifcult to see these guys are a liability.

I don't see many immediate options until the end of the month with the trade deadline.

Schilling's uncertainty delays sending Arroyo to the pen. I'm still upset over the way Cla Meredith was rushed up from AA and then imploded. Mantei is gone and Embree has no value. Timlin is going to have to be the closer for now leaving a big hole in middle to late relief.
