while I can preface my comments by saying no one could do worse than foulke or embree, the only conern I have with timlin is while poeple have been blathering about how well he is doing and how great his ERA is, and there is no question it is strong...his numbers in terms of inheriting runners is atrocious. that is a big concern I have seeing him become the closer.

Theo need to find a leskanic type closer to at least put the ball in someone hands who has done this type of work before.

I dont know if bronson has the stuff, but lowe was able to make the transition form starter to closer and back to starter again.????

possibility?

the never worked and was shelved--I can even imagine a committe that includes the likes of al embree and keith foulke.

Timlin's issue with RISP wouldn't be as big of a factor in a closer role as he'd be sent in to get three outs with the bases empty. You just wouldn't want to send him in for the third out in the eighth as well when the rest of the pen has already caved in.

Last night sent as strong a message about Foulke as we're likely to see. Heading into the ninth, you knew that the best case scenario was extra-innings. I didn't think for one second that the Sox'd hold that lead in the ninth, not even after the first out.

I wouldn't even lump Embree in with Foulke at this point. But neither are the answer.

well obviously francona is finally losing patience, i thought steam was comin out of his ears when foulke had loaded the bases--and plus when 9th inning gettin ready to start, mike myers was already in the bullpen warming up

Foulke proved last year and in his years in Oakland he can be a dominant closer. Pitchers don't just suddenly turn s***** the way he has, something has to be wrong. Whats wrong? I don't know it could be mechanics, it could be an injury, it could be a million things but something is wrong with him wether the Red Sox are aware of whatever it is or not.

Good Call Sizzlin. Yesterday ESPN posted the following statement made by the Red Sox.

The Red Sox said Tuesday that Keith Foulke, who closed out all four games in the World Series, would return to Boston to have MRI exams on both of his knees. The right-hander is 5-5 with a 6.23 ERA and 15 saves, and two of his four blown saves have come in the last week. - ESPN.COM

Well, it looks like Foulke's knee was hurt pretty bad, which is much better news than hearing it's just mental.

And to the Foulke haters, cut him some slack, I doubt you could even properly assemble a Double Whopper with cheese while working on a torn up knee, nevermind pitch in the major leagues.
