hey guys, i claimed Meredith, so here's my report on him. He throws sidearm, and he throws a Sinker, Fastball, Slider. He started the year with a 15 game scoreless streak, but struggled in the majors. He is now back on Pawtucket.

He certainly didn't come across last year as a K per IP kind of guy. I thought he was more of a Foulke-esque type of pitcher.

I kind of got the impression that Meredith would be a Chad Bradford type who would be brought in to retire tough righthanded batters late in games-- although the Sox seem to be moving away from specialists.

Since it's not posted here I'll include Meredith's scouting report from soxprospects.com

Scouting Report: Meredith has great movement on his pitchers and is very tough against righties. Makes use of a low 90s fastball and a slider. He was used as VCU’s closer in 2004. Boston is grooming Meredith as a closer

Since he'll turn 23 in June he's still relatively young and really dominated the lower levels last year. He had a bad debut with the Sox and struggled in AAA, but at 23 if he can master AAA we could see him later this year or next year in the bullpen.

The old foulkes K/9 rates are actually pretty good. Not having a great fastball doesn't eliminate the possibility of being a strikeout guy. Now if you were comparing him to Foulke of last year you're right, but I'm not sure why we'd ever compare prospects to terrible pitchers.

Meredith runs his scorless streak to 7.1 IP.

Last night he went, 1.2 IP 2 H 1 BB 1 K.

Season Line: 7.1 IP 5 H 3 BB 6 K

GB/FB: 9/3 K/BB ratio: 2:1

I am glad to see thatg this kid is doing well. He could've been destroyed by what happened to him in the majors last summer.

Runs it to 9.1 IP.

Last night he allowed only one hit in two innings, fanning four in the process

Season Line: 9.1 5 H 3 BB 10 K

GB/FB: 11/3 K/BB ratio: 3.3:1

well this is the end of this thread...Thanks Cla for helping to reacquire Doug Mirabelli and to free a 40 man roster spot that you were taking up.

i truely believe he got ruined by his major league stint.

And Francona has admitted it since he was the one who pushed for Theo to bring him to the big leagues so soon.
