I know Theo has said he is done making moves.* BUT, today I read about the diamondbacks being interested in Jay Payton cause they need a center fielder.* It has also been said that they need to deal Javier Vazquez to an east coast team as well.* LOVE to see Javier in Boston, especially after he told the evil boss he'd be sorry if he traded him.* Just don't givem any of our starters.* Cash, prospects, Payton. . .

i would do it just to spite the yankees. it's just funny that the "boss" would be paying for part of a red sox players contract.

we would lose depth in the outfield. what if manny needs a day off and if damon/nixon were to be injured. yeah, we have millar but either him or minky will be traded. that means ortiz at first. it's definately workable but i don't see it happening.

payton and a prospect should do it though. it would take an above average spec imo.

Then we could move to the fail-safe 7 starter rotation! I like this plan! We could use two starters in the same game even!

do people honestly think we have an abundance of starters? having javy in the rotation does not hurt us, especially since he has the motivation to beat the yankees, not to mention being under a new pitching coach.

if "willer" goes down we'de be so thankful we made this move.

How much of the contract do the DBacks have to pay? I don't think the Sox will exceed the Tax threshold this year again. But if he would only cost 3 Million or so, then why not?

I don't THINK this will happen, but Theo would be an idiot NOT to trade his backup outfielder for a proven starter.

Vazquez really only had 1 bad HALF SEASON with the Yankees, and he'd CERTAINLY be welcome on the Red Sox as far as I'm concerned.

Despite what the morons at YES say.... I have NEVER said Javy was a bad pitcher and I DO believe he can return to where he used to be.

He's got a better track record than Pavano, Clement, Arroyo, Wright, even Wade Miller.

Javy Vazquez for Payton isn't a bad move at all. Think about it, the DBacks then basically traded Randy Johnson for Jay Payton and Dionner Navarro lol.

Vazquez would be great insurance and would give us a starter to start the year so Schilling doesn't have to rush back. As well if Miller's arm acts up or if Wells' back gives out we got a quality starter (at least a number 3 type SP) to fill in. And when not put his as$ in the pen and let him work out of there.

who knows, by that time it might be someone else going to the pen instead of javy. he has a goal, a purpose now, to make the yankees regret the trade.

Which is what would make a return to Boston (or even Baltimore) so sweet for him.

According to ESPN, the Phillies and Orioles have made offers to Arizona for Vazquez. They didn't mention the Payton thing.

I wouldnt do this trade. I'm not really "fond" of Javy as some might say. That may be because I only saw him as a Yankee, plus I wouldnt want to trade our best bench player and all our good spects for HIM (and the $10 mill salary) when we could use our spects on Sheets or someone.

i don't care what uniform he was in, to me it depends on the player. i would take matsui on my team (if needed) any day of the year, he's a competitor, a good guy and a good ball player.

as for javy, i don't think it would take specs. the dbacks are in search for an everyday center fielder, they would really like to have payton. i don't mind giving that up for javy, especially since the yankees are eating part of his contract.

I think going after Javy is a good move. I have to think the dbacks want some pitching in addition to Payton, and that may be wind up being Arroyo.

I doubt Theo would get Javy. Too expensive, and he'd probably have to give up too much. Instead, I'd expect him to deal Payton for maybe another OF (bench player) and a prospect or two. It's not like Payton's that valuable, regardless of how much Arizona wants him. Although this offseason has made me doubt it some, I still think Joe Jr. (Arizona GM) isn't a complete retard, and wouldn't overpay for Payton.

Let's not get carried away, the most the D-backs would offer would be a prospect or two. And they would be above average at best.

But I would love the idea of seeing Vazquez in a Sox uniform.

I'm torn between the fact that he had such a horrible 2nd half and got blown away in Game 7, and the fact that he is a quality pitcher before last years 2nd half. I don't know if he was injured or what, but Javy wasn't Javy.

OK OK I JUST WANT TO SEE WHAT IT WOULD LOOK LIKE:

Curt Schilling

David Wells

Matt Clement

Javier Vazquez

Wade Miller

Bronson Arroyo

Tim Wakefield

John Halama

We would have time in the beginning of the year to see how this develops and LOTS of room to make trades as the season progresses. We can always find more backups as the season goes on. This would be incredible.
