  1. (I think it's Harville) I definately agree w/ Papelbon, neither Burnett or Washburn are appealing to me, I think we have enough Starting Pitching as it is, We have 4 solid starters now (Wells, Clement, Wake, and Schill) and hopefully Miller will recover from his injury by next season. If not Miller, then Papelbon can certainly fill the gap, plus, we got Lester and Sanchez comin up soon. Also I'd love to start both Youk and Mueller everyday at the corners, thatd be a great defensive infield (Mueller, ERent, Tony G, and Youk) and we'd be keeping two no-nonsense, no complaining type players who always give it their all. I'd be very dissapointed if Mueller leaves, but if he ever comes back to Fenway, even in a Yankee uni, I'd give him a standing O
  2. Plus, the Yanks have 3 games against TB, I believe it's in TB also.
  3. How long is he signed for? I also totally agree, to have him be solid next year would complete a very good rotation, and also help the pen next year. Think about it, Wakefield and Wells have been very good this season, better than their stats say, Clement has talied off a bit, but we all know how good he can be, Schilling should be back to old form next season, and we say his work in the 04 post-season. If Miller can reurn to his Astro-form, then we'll be sending a good solid pitcher out the mound everyday, this way we can send Arroyo to the pen wehre he is very effective and should improve.
  4. I'm gettin pretty confident, if Schill pitches like that for the rest fo the year, then I'm pretty sure we'll take it. Wake can go 9 or even 10 innings in any games where he doesnt get lit up, Wells before last night was phenomanal, and Arroyo went 8 in hist last start. Smalls impressed me last night, but not sure he can go the rest of the year pitching the way he is, Johnson has been terrible all season compared to what he used to be. Wang is an above-average pitcher at best, at least this season. Chacon i think is ur best pitcher, and thats not sayin much.
  5. The Yanks of old get all of my respect, the O'Neil, Brocious, Martinez years when a lot of the Yankee players came from their farm system, not like the 200 mill Yanks, buying whoever they need. The Pats, if they win 3 in a row, would be the best team EVER in football history. That is a feat no one has yet to accomplish, but the Pats as of now are stil behind the Niners, Steelers, and Bears greats. there was an interesting article in the paper, about whether it was harder to build a team then or now ('79 Steelers, '05 Pats). The Steelrs had to draft al of their stars, eventually getting i believe it was 9 HOFers such as Bradshaw, etc. Now a days you can sign people, etc. However, back then since there was no FA, team chemistry was way up, unlike now where certain people are traded/unsigned, and new players brought in. That may make it harder somewhat for now teams, but my edge still goes to "then" teams.
  6. I rly hope we do re-sign him, but I doubt that a$$hole Boras will give us a home-town discount.
  7. I think Bell just feels under-appreciated for what he did for us last year, i mean w/o him, we lose the ALCS, then we boo him and want him out of here?(granted he did hit terribley, but we really ragged on him) that probably fueled his fire to hate us, but idk y he walked away from jay payton, they both got booted out of the sox.
  8. Is he projected to be a frontline starter? thatd be great to have our whole rotation to be from the farm Papy, Lester, Sanchez seem to be the most promising.
  9. Anyone know if this Abreu kid is good? or does anyone have a scouting report on him?
  10. How can Varitek be a bad game-caller if he is known to prepare excessively for everygmame he catches, and don't you read any of the scouting reports on him? They all say he's a magnificent game caller. ALso there's no comparison between Mirrabelli and Varitek, all Mirrabelli has to call is a knuckleball, and the occasional fastball/curveball. Also he's not fastball-happy, he has different out-pitches that he calls for every pitcher. Schilling- fastball or split, Wells- curveball, Arroyo- breaking ball. I quote from ESPN: " Varitek is one of the most respected signal callers in the majors. He also has a strong arm and throws well to second base. While opposing baserunners stole at a 79.4-percent clip against him in 2004, pitchers on the mound had more to do with that than Varitek's throwing ability. He never has been fleet of foot, but Varitek was in great shape last year, picking his spots to the tune of 10 stolen bases, most among American League catchers." http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/scouting?playerId=3760
  11. ARod was a dissapointment to the Yanks last year, even though his defense was good, but I think of this as a throwaway year so he can get used to all the ballparks etc. Next year will be the real judgement year.
  12. With Foulke it's all about his location on pitches, that's his main weapon, because w/o it, he has a below average fastball, good change, but only a 50% chance that it won't get guessed by the batter. Last night, I think he got lucky that hit went to Nixon, he started off okay, with fasballs, than I guess the slider was a watse pitch, but then he misses w/ a fastball and changeup, thank god he didn't miss over the plate and they were balls. If he misses over the plate, its goin over the Monster. At elats he got a good cheer from the crowd.
  13. Even if they do make the playoffs, theyre chances look grim. Now theyre left w/ the inconsistent Johnson, and 3 other unproven starters this year. Mussian has been a big part of this rotation, and this could turn out to be a major loss. If we don't get some room ebtween us and the Yanks now, I will be very dissapointed. At least i won't have to see that stupid bow again for a while.
  14. I'm not too scared of Oakland yet, though they've been playin very good baseball, we should get a good look at em when they come to Fenway. Also I think that the White Sox won't go far, they're just another regular season winner but won't go far in the playoffs like the ols Mariners clubs. Both the Yankees and Sox proved they could beat them, so they don't pose as a threat to me.
  15. We won by default last year, but if we don't put some room between us soon, while they continue to struggle to find arms, then we're in big trouble. Especially since we face them soon.
  16. Remember, he was terrible in Spring Training hist first year here, then he started out great that year, maybe hitters are guessing one pitch every time he throws becuase then theyd hav a 50% chance of gussing rite.
  17. What position does he play? Firstbase? He sounds good, it's a plus that he can field, can anyone compare him to a Major league player, defense-wise? I do not remember drafting him at all.
  18. Those are good stats CrespoBlows, they tell a lot. Before he started his slump Clement was the bona-fide Ace of the staff, now I fell a little nervous with him on the mound, he's allowed 7 big flies in his last three starts and was hardly at his potential against the Yankees. I fell way more comfortable with Wells on the mound, especially against the Yankees. In the playoffs I'd start out with him in game one, followed by Clement and Wake. Hopefully Schilling will get back to starting by the end of the year, it's not good that our lowest ERA is over 4.00
  19. What are his stats so far like average, OBP, etc? 8 stolen bases in 8 games is impressive, hopefully he'll continue that thorugh the minor leageus and beyond.
  20. I'm nervous about this series, hopefully they'll stay cold for now, it'd be huge if we took 3/4. If we don't it's very likely that we will find ourselves in 2nd after this series. Who are the Yanks playing?
  21. Which brother do u have?
  22. Yeah, i just saw him tonight, i forget how he did though, I mainly went because my teammates brother Zak Farkes plays for the Spinners as well. Also Gabe Kapler was there on a rehab stint tonight, he didn't do too well. He went 0-4 with two Ks and two weak pop ups, one that was dropped, later causing him to score a run.
  23. If Tito even THINKS about bringing in Embree...
  24. If ERent gets 2 more hits then he would come back to Fenway hitting over .300, maybe the number switch helped both Wells and Renteria. YOOOOUUUUUK!!!
