And are close on:

So liebers out of the picture.

One would imagine, yes.

The same article speculated that Jon Lieber was close to signing with the Phillies....

Talk about overpayment on Wright... haha. He did have a good season, but not a 7 Millon season.

I have to agree.

Wright was once considered a GREAT young pitcher with Cleveland, but struggled since 97 after he pitched Clevlend's game 7 loss. (not necessarily related)

His career was resurected last year in Atlanta, but I can think of far better pitchers (Weaver, Vazquez, Kenny Rogers) who have come to the Yankees and didn't pitch well.

Seems like a big risk here.

I attribute that success to Braves pitching coach Leo Mazo..? I don't know how to spell it. The Braves can turn crap into gold somehow, which is why they can compete every year.

Wright is going to bomb it up next year, try pitching to the Sox, O's, and other powerhouses.

Yes. This IS good news all around considering the Yankees were figured to be in on both Lieter and Lieber.

Lieber was the best Yankee starter in the ALCS last year, so it's nice to see him out of town... To Philly, where we won't have to face him.

Woody Williams to San Diego makes them a contender, especially if they can resign David Wells

Lieter to Florida-- They MUST believe they can take the NL East in 2005 because Al's retiring after next year. Glad he's going to an NL team that we also won't have to face.

At least he went to the national league. your right he is overpayed. Besides randy johnson he's going to be the only one that can carry that team

Wow.

Arizona spent a LOT of money on a .270ish hitter with a history of injuries.

Does this mean Arizona's interested in winning NOW, and is planning a run WITH Johnson?

I was thinking the same thing. I hope so.

The white sox signed:

CHICAGO -- The Chicago White Sox have agreed to terms with outfielder Jermaine Dye on a two-year, $10.15 million contract that contains a club option for 2007. link

Dustin Hermanson, who turns 32 on Dec. 21 and will be paid $2 million in 2005 and $3 million in 2006. link

I think that they should go out for pitching, rather than another slugger. They have like 12000 people on their lineup who would bat 3rd or 4th for most teams.

If not, that's a pretty bad signing by the Dbax. They need young guys who can stay healthy, not a gimp with no contact ability.

Personally, I think the Glaus signing puts pressure on Arizona to win now. Otherwise, why pay Glaus a ton of money to play on a crappy team?

I like the Dye signing. If he can stay healthy, he'll be a bargain at $5 million. He's a solid hitter and a decent outfielder.

And a much cheaper replacement for Ordonez.

It does, and I don't think they can respond. The team just has too many holes to contend next season. That's why they should have let Glaus go elsewhere.

steve finley--->angels, 2yrs/14mill

richard hidalgo-->rangers, 1yr/5mill

ARIZONA with another big move:

russ ortiz--->d-backs, 4yrs/33mill

thats it for now..

DISCUSS!!

with arizona making another big move for another pitcher, 2 questions arise for me:

1) does this mean that they are possibly bringing in a replacement for randy so he can go elsewhere? possibly NY?

2) does this mean they are surely keeping randy and going for a run at the WS with him?

i think number 2 stands out more for me.

Hermanson is good when he is healthy. Have no idea why the sox had him start, he's a great closer.

Hermanson played adequetely as a starter for the giants but when our closer herges couldnt get it done, the giants moved him to the closer position. He pitched far from great especially at the Giants' pitcher friendly park.

He had a few good games but mostly he gave up a lot of crucial runs. He blew the 2nd to last game of the season against the dodgers which cost the giants the playoffs. (3-0 lead into the ninth, 7-3 dodger win). A questionable sign for the white sox but he was cheap.

Last year: 6-9, 17 svs, 4.53 ERA
