He would be nice on the sox but i dont think it will happen if he becomes a free agent because the yankees will hop on him like a fat girl on a doughnut

royals want to get rid of him before hes a FA

what do u mean. the link i posted was the one w/ Damon and Kim going to Seattle for freddie garcia and a prospect. Then damon and kim would go to KC for beltran. I just dont understand wat u meant

today i read another rumor online following the topic of Beltran coming to Boston. As much as i would love his addition to the team, i dont think he would fit too well. Johnny damon blends in better with the surroundings, the fans, and the team, and i would hate to see him go. :damon: (haha nice smiley)

The official rumor looks something like this:

Sox- Give up Damon and Kim, Get Beltran

Mariners- Give up Garcia, Get Damon and Kim

Royals- Give up Beltran, Get Garcia

That's what I understood this whole ordeal to be.

M's GM Bill Bavasi said no deals are near, but rumors are circulating the Red Sox and Royals are trying to entice the Mariners into a three-way trade. Boston would trade pitcher Byung Hyun Kim and, possibly, outfielder Johnny Damon to the Mariners in exchange for pitcher Freddy Garcia and minor league starter Cha Seung Baek. If the Red Sox could get the Mariners to bite, Garcia would then be shipped to Kansas City, with outfielder Carlos Beltran going to Boston.

That is what i read on benmaller.com

We wouldn't need to sign Beltran long term, just till the end of the year. That sumbitch would want a s*** load of money, proably 15-18 mil per. Anyone know how much Damon makes? I think he makes more than Beltran right now. I guess getting rid of Damon plus Kim would save some dough for Beltran.

I think this is a great deal. Damon has not been great while Beltran is a superstar. Kim is aweful and overpayed.

In 3 years time, look back at this post and shoot yourself.

Damon makes 8 ml/year, but he's signed through next year (when he'll be making 8.5). Probably just over half of what Beltran will make. But he's signed through next year. Beltran isn't. That leaves us with yet ANOTHER hole to fill for the next offseason if we lose Damon and dont resign Beltran. The team can't afford that.

I'm against the deal precisely for this. Imagine having to get at least 2 sp's, some bullpen help, a cf, rf, ss, c etc.. It's painful to think about.

i would be sad to see damon go...he is such a home town favorite and all....but will also be good to see beltran in a sox uniform :)

I hope he doesn't go before he cuts his hair! :damon:

While there's a definite improvement if Beltran comes (Beltran > Damon), im with yawkeyway on this one. It'll create a humungous, irreperable hole after this season and the sox would tank next year. 'Course, if it means we win the WS this year, then I'd do it, but there are no guarantees in baseball.

The Sox won't tank next year we have enough money to get players. Rememeber the Sox have $125 payroll. Trading Damon and Kim will open up roughly 29 million dollars of salary so we could resign Beltran

Resign Beltran, ok, but that leaves us with no more money to work with when trying to resign some of our other current players. Signing Beltran would mean having to choose between Ortiz/Pedro/Nomar/Tek. We couldn't sign Beltran and more than one or two of them if we want to plug up other holes and not go over 120 mil.

if we were to get beltran, and damon was involved in the deal, who would lead off???

i wouldnt want a .300 30 100 guy leading off because of our lack of depth at the bottom of the line up. he wouldnt equal his numbers because of this. this is why damon is a valuable asset to this team because we have no other player capable of leading off a game

You would honestly choose Johnny Damon over the next Micky Mantle and you can sleep at night? You can justify having a .275/15 guy over a .300/30 guy who's just as fast and better defensively? I'm sorry but Beltran is head and shoulders above Damon in every imaginable category known to man except for hair length and amount of facial hair.

I'm all for getting Beltran. But once, again, he'd just be a rent-a-player. The Sox would then just have yet another high-priced free agent to resign, and we know they can't manage the ones the already have. (Sorry if this has already been mentioned, I haven't read the rest of the thread.)

Yup, it's been mentioned and its a valid argument. Even if we blatantly ignore B-tran at the end of the season, and let him walk (if we were to get him that is), we'd still have another hole to fill in centerfield. That isn't good.

We have holes all over the place, and adding another one at this point seems stupid. It's not as if our offense is struggling mightily at full force, no, we don't have two of our best hitters out there. We're making do, and I don't think we need to get a future Micky Mantle to save this team.

I've also been hearing rumors that the yankees are making a run for Beltran. Is there any validity to this or is it just yankee fans being yankee fans? I see no reason for them to be going after year ANOTHER superstar other than to spite the sox. But if the mfy got him, imagine how much that would suck. :(
