    Or just for fun, Arenado + Gray + Donovan + $$$ for Jh Gracia and Casas. How much does StL chip in? That's $60M in salary relief for three players they are looking to move; almost a complete reset. The money would have to be compelling, but it would add three players that we need, and leave us the opening for Alonso and then dealing Duran or Abreu for a good SP.

    I think there is near-0 chance that we target Donovan. Lefty hitters with split problems is what we are (hopefully) trying to trade away from. In any case, I'd never trade Ceddanne for Donovan. Ceddanne is already a better player, with 7 years of control v Donovan's 2 years of control. And just imho, Arenado is a legit target since StL wants to get rid of him. It's a matter of how much StL kicks in, and how we add offense at other positions. Maybe if we acquired Donovan + Arenado for Casas, and signed Alonso for 1st, we'd have a good offense without crippling us salary-wise.

    I don't think the Mets are crazy about Alonso. They didn't sign him long-term last year, thought they easily could have. I like Adell well enough, but I'm not sure of the fit. I think he'd look real good in LF for us, but we are already one over the limit on outfielders. I think if we followed Moon's thinking, and traded both Abreu & Duran, then Adell would be a heck of a target. Kind of like when I wanted Willingham and wound up with the mega-expensive Crawford. Adell's 35-HR bat sitting in the 6-slot would be very dangerous.

    It's like this every year. The same people that think our farm stinks will go apoplectic if we cut someone lose. Darwinzon and Thad Ward were exposed, there were 200-comment posts on MLB-R. You'd have thought we had cut Carl Yaz.

    IMO, his skillset translates to CF better. Speed v reaction time.

    I'm more of the opinion that it is a modest overpay, but the fit is compelling. I would do it, but I'd be a lot happier if Cincy threw in a decent lottery ticket, or if we could reasonably extend Lodolo for 3-4 years.

    Because we don't need four OFs. I agree on 2 quality SPs, but if we can trade one of our OFs for an equivalent WAR 1B, 2B, or 3B, why not?

    The MLB average last year was 27.5. If this allows us bigger improvements elsewhere, I am okay with it. My bigger concern might be that we also need Ref to spell Abreu and/or Duran against tough lefties.

    He is the key DD guy. I think they come to terms with Realmuto, but not certain. But Schwarber stays. I need Polymarket site for these things.

    It wasn't an overpayment. $32M for a one-year commitment and making the playoffs is easy money.

    BTV is just a fun tool to give you a ballpark idea of what a deal is worth. Don't overrate it, but it's like so many other BB metrics. They have value so long as you look at it from a 3rd party perspective.

    You need to gamble. There were a lot of RS fans that wanted nothing to do with Crochet because of a lack of proven history. If we want to get our next Crochet, we need to go to unproven guys with huge potential. I'd be looking at guys like Bubba Chandler or Chase Burns.

    I use to have visit our plant in Berlin, CT. I never gave it much thought until I showed up in a RS jersey. The amount of yelling (good-natured) back and forth was astonishing. They considered their little village the cut-off between NY & Boston.

    It doesn't. Most everything I do everyday gets done because of people that are billionaires, or really rich if they aren't billionaires. We don't have these conversations if not for people like Gates, Dell, Ellison, etc. I don't have a Dick Tracy phone without Steve Jobs. Do you think you'd have any of this is these people stopped working after they made their first billion? But just for fun, try living for a week without any of the toys that are supplied by people that have made a lot of money off of it. No Windows OS, no Dell computer, no HP printer, no Apple phone, nothing that was delivered to you by Amazon.

    It could work. I doubt we trade two OFs, but if the opportunity was too good to pass up, then Ceddanne, Anthony, and a LF platoon of Yoshi/Ref is something I can live with. See if Duran can land us a #2 with control, and see if Abreu can land us a power IF bat with control (I see no matchups).

    That's because Duran and Ceddanne are both CFs. Abreu is a great glove, but RFs are less in demand.

    I agree. I always think in terms of how the other teams view our players. Other teams might love Tolle and dislike Early, and vice versa. In this example, if Mayer got us 20% more in value over Arias, I'd be very comfortable keeping Arias.

    Teams like Cincy & Pitt have way more pitching than hitting. It's like asking why Boston would trade one of their best players if we are trying to compete. It's all about fit.

    I agree. But just because they want more, doesn't mean I'll pay more, for just one year.

    $31.7M. We live in a world that recognizes deferrals.

    There is no chance Wong plays 1B next year.

    BR has Narvaez with a .686 OPSa and Wong with a .693. You could do a weighted-average to get more precise, but I think Wong will handily out-perform his salary.
