  1. Of course he addresses one of our major needs. We had two locked-in SPs on the team. We have some decent pitching prospects, but we had ONLY TWO real pitchers. Crochet was CY-level, and Bello was kind of meh+. So our #3, #4, and #5 SPs were going to be an injured Sandoval, Early with 4 career starts, and Tolle with 3 (weak) career starts. That's not a serious approach. Seriously, am I missing someone? Is there an SP on our team that I am missing?
  2. Rafaela might be the best CF I've ever seen. He's not changing positions.
  3. Sure, but if he hit lefties as well as he does righties, he'd be a perennial AS, and there would be no question of getting traded.
  4. Interesting, but I doubt it. Good player, but a lefty, injury-prone, and expensive.
  5. I agree on all counts. I want a #2 (or even a #1), but if they choose to focus on hitting, I can live with this rotation. Gray could always get old at any time, but he was terrific last year. Clarke has some talent, but his BB9 rate was reminiscent of Darwinzon.
  6. Maybe it has something to do with needing 5 starting pitchers, and we only had 2 SPs, and 6 guys trying out for the #3, #4, and #5 slots. Even with Gray, I think we need another SP, preferably a #2 type.
  7. That's ridiculous. FG projects him to be one of the best pitchers in BB with a 3.45 ERA and a 4.0 WAR.
  8. I was going to say the same thing. In his final 12 games, he had a 3.13/3.75 ERA/FIP with a 69/18 K/W in 77.2 IPs. In his final 8 games, it was a 2.68/3.62 with a 52/10 in 53.2 IPs. That's really good. And his contract is affordable, but expensive enough that Miami will be motivated to trade him.
  9. My pure guess is that he was wrapped up with Harrison. The Giants wanted payroll relief, the RS balked and asked for Harrison if they had to take Hicks. Maybe a little hubris by the RS thinking they could revert Hicks back into a good BP piece?
  10. I like it. I think we've seen all that Fitts can be. Clarke could be good, but his BB9 is frightening. I don't agree with the article labeling Gray as a #2, but I think he is definitely a good, maybe very good, #3. Just as important, we now have 3 dependable arms. If we spent the rest of the off-season pursuing bats, I wouldn't be happy, but we might have just enough of a rotation to get by. But I still want to package up Duran and/or Abreu+ for another live, controlled arm. But looking through the glass half-full, we got gray for the tail-end of a Yankee trade plus a 5th rounder.
  11. It's remarkable that TX let him go. I know he was old, but he had a 43/3 K/W in 36 IPs. That's almost impossible. And he finished 2012 with a 0.09 FIP in September, with a 19/1 K/W. And he had a 16/0 K/W in our playoff run in 2013. Man, did we ever get lucky there.
  12. But the point being that we need some reliability in the rotation. I'd like to acquire Greene, Chandler, Burns, Lodolo, or maybe several others. But if we don't land any of those guys, we still need a reliable SP.
  13. That assumes that the RS forgot to send out a group text saying Ward was available.
  14. GGs are meaningless, but Abreu grades out well across the board. His defense will be valued.
  15. If the Red Sox can’t get someone younger, and better don’t bother. It feels like these two posts are in conflict each other. I'm in the camp of acquiring a #2 or even a #1, and would put real prospects on the table. And maybe even sign a good #4. For the fans that want to go in-house if we can't get a #2, that won't work. That would leave us with: Crochet Bello Sandoval Early Tolle We would struggle to play .500.
  16. After 2019, we won 84 games, had the highest payroll in BB, and the worst farm. Even for rich teams, sometimes you cycles where all your young guys are starting to get paid real money, and all the older guys with big contracts, are starting to decline. We needed a re-boot.
  17. Cots has them as $47.3, and they are very accurate. Your numbers are probably the same with some rounding or bonus payments.
  18. I am decidedly against measuring offense in terms of HRs. Everything I've ever looked at suggests OBP trumps HRs in terms of scoring.
  19. I don't know, which is why I raised the question. His lack of time there is what concerns me.
  20. Do you think Romy can play 3rd?
  21. Or just for fun, Arenado + Gray + Donovan + $$$ for Jh Gracia and Casas. How much does StL chip in? That's $60M in salary relief for three players they are looking to move; almost a complete reset. The money would have to be compelling, but it would add three players that we need, and leave us the opening for Alonso and then dealing Duran or Abreu for a good SP.
  22. I think there is near-0 chance that we target Donovan. Lefty hitters with split problems is what we are (hopefully) trying to trade away from. In any case, I'd never trade Ceddanne for Donovan. Ceddanne is already a better player, with 7 years of control v Donovan's 2 years of control. And just imho, Arenado is a legit target since StL wants to get rid of him. It's a matter of how much StL kicks in, and how we add offense at other positions. Maybe if we acquired Donovan + Arenado for Casas, and signed Alonso for 1st, we'd have a good offense without crippling us salary-wise.
  23. I don't think the Mets are crazy about Alonso. They didn't sign him long-term last year, thought they easily could have. I like Adell well enough, but I'm not sure of the fit. I think he'd look real good in LF for us, but we are already one over the limit on outfielders. I think if we followed Moon's thinking, and traded both Abreu & Duran, then Adell would be a heck of a target. Kind of like when I wanted Willingham and wound up with the mega-expensive Crawford. Adell's 35-HR bat sitting in the 6-slot would be very dangerous.
  24. It's like this every year. The same people that think our farm stinks will go apoplectic if we cut someone lose. Darwinzon and Thad Ward were exposed, there were 200-comment posts on MLB-R. You'd have thought we had cut Carl Yaz.
  25. Good analysis. I'd be curious to see how quickly other teams turn over.
